So, basically, when you add the qualifying suffixes -hin and -her, you first and foremost are adding movement to "where".

English had the same words, but they have become antiquated. Woher was "Whence" in English, meaning where from. Where was where. And Wohin was Whither. "Whence do you come and whither are you going?"
