Actually, as the german sentences doesn't have a property order, you may use nicht wherever you want, but obviously after the conjugated verb and before the verbs in infinitiv/prefix of "trennbar verb". Normally one uses "nicht" near things want to negate the most. E.g. Ich will nicht heute lernen. Ich will heute nicht lernen. Both sentences are ok, but the first one emphasises the modalverb and the second emphasises the time. It is about the sense you want to give.

I found this table confusing because most declination tables follow the m,f,n,pl order or in one book (Schritte Plus) I have it is m,n,f,pl, but never n,m,f,pl. At first glance I thought it was wrong and was looking it up in my grammar book...when suddenly I realized it was out of order. Otherwise....I love you Jenny!

I'm also a German teacher: "Ich danke Ihnen sehr" is correct, you just needed to capitalize your "I" in Ihnen since it comes from the "Sie" pronoun that means "you; formal". Ihnen with a lower-case i (ihnen) is the dative form of the pronoun "sie" meaning "they". Ihnen = you (dative) ihnen = them (dative - in most cases)
