@frankheilingbrunner78529 күн бұрын
@@m.h.6470 Well, to be fair, things have changed a lot. Two or three generations ago the southern Germans were practically incomprehensible in the north. Over time, youth and mobility had its effect, and standard German was increasingly used. I showed my father (born 1930) some of Feli from Germany's videos, and he was amazed because she's from München, the capital of Bavaria, and yet, he said, "She speaks better Hochdeutsch than I do!" On the other hand, a friend introduced him to a German club in a nearby town, and this turned out to be a colony of Swabians who had kept their regional dialect from whenever they or their near-ancestors had immigrated. He said that he could understand maybe one word in three. Mike certainly has a regional inflection, but it's nothing like the way regional dialects used to be. Two more things to add: (1) I suspect that many Bavarians are bilingual, speaking non- or lightly-accented standard German or local Bavarian depending on whom they're talking to. (2) I suspect that Bavarian Geman itself varies substantially throughout Bavaria, particularly from one rural area to another.
@m.h.64709 күн бұрын
@@frankheilingbrunner7852 Sure. Mike & Hayley speak 'age appropriate' Bavarian. It is true, that you can't compare it with the Bavarian dialect that their grandparents or greatgrandparents would have spoken.
@juicyfruit43785 күн бұрын
@@frankheilingbrunner7852 Bavaria has not only regional dialects but they are so strong that a person from Aschaffenburg will not be able to understand someone from Passau and an Augsburger won't understand the dialect in Hof as Bayern is vast. I was born and raised in Bavaria and can switch to 3 different dialects from Oberpfalz to Frankish and switch over to Munich with no problem. However, Hoch Deutsch for me is almost impossible without my accent or reverting back to Bavarian depending on whom I'm speaking with. I can assure you that even the younger Bavarians hold their dialects quite well but will happily switch to Hoch Deutsch when needed unlike us oldies who won't.

On Leberkäse/Fleischkäse: Outside of Bavaria, the Bavarian stuff is called Fleischkäse, which kinda makes sense, as it doesn't seem to have anything to do with liver (at least not the stuff sold outside of Bavaria). But you can totally buy actual Leberkäse which is called "Leberkäse" (and has actual liver in it), but that's usually eaten thinly sliced as cold cuts (quite tasty).

I never got it. But she loves them and got one nearly every day we are there. I have a uncle that works in hr for a hotel chain. They sent him to various places around the world like Hungary, Poland, Dubai and other states in the UAE. He's a very pleasant man and likes most of the places he had to go.and get a ton of money for his work. He pretty well of. But once or twice a year he and his family visit the relatives here in Germany. And every time he vitits my mother he orders for the whole family, his family, my mother and who ever from our side is present at the moment, Currywurst with frites. A taste he misses so much when he is in his exotic hotel somewhere with great chefs and everything. But a really good currywurst according to my uncle you only get here from a small pommesbude around the corner. I always thought that was halarious that something so common and boring like a Currywurst make him nostalgic or homesick. But here we are.

Das Fischbrötchen war Matjes. Nicht Bismark. Ich liebe Matjesbrötchen mit viel Zwiebeln.

The Germans must have the secret of cooking duck so that it's not as tough as rubber, which is the experience I've had even in apparently good Chinese restaurants. No more duck for me!

Duck that is cooked to perfection is very soft and buttery smooth. Easy to cut, easy to chew, and has a non-offensive taste. One day you might have luck :)

Ich habe gerade nachgeschaut: ca. 9.50€ in Minga. Hier im Fichtelgebirge, wo ich wohne, lediglich 6.50€.
