I hope the ammunition is not sourced again in Switzerland .... Oerlikon is a Swiss based company so it is very likely that Swiss might sell the gun and then refuses to supply any ammo when the gun is needed. So as long as any Swiss stuff is included in this system it can not be considered a sustainable one in time of crisis. So do not invest any money in it unless it is completely Swiss free. Otherwise it is a waste of money.

@@faulpelz7947 Correct, but yet not capabale of delivering large demands. Example Gepard: Would need a day supply of 264.000 shots for an 8 hour shift. Not unrealistic. So 50 Systems need that amoint of ammo by 50 ...comes to 13.200.000 shots ...it , unfortunately , will take all capacities from Spain, Norway and Switzerland to get these Gepards fully supplied to do their needed job and work. I wonder why not companies like Diehl do take up the fabrication....or some polish companies..around the corner...

I just collected, out of interest, some numbers what the depot in the tank is good for, what in sample shootings on hitting the target was needed, and what a worst case scenario could be. You are right, I was probably to negative and too focused on the general need if all Gepards KGW had at is disposable were delivered. And also I can only rely on available information. And the process of buying a company in Spain to produce the ammunition was a very good move to get out the catch 22 situation I felt is happening The Norwegian ammo seems not to be the solution and the hope is that the companies can deliver to Ukraine, what is needed. And it is not bad to know that these „old systems“ do deliver still a very solid solution.

Technically, systems like Iris-T (which already have been delivered to Ukraine) can easily shoot down Iranian drones - up to now there was like a 100% success-rate. But considering the price: 600k for an Iris-T missile vs. 20k for the drone, you can probably guess who is going to run out of ammunition first. As far as I know there's only 1 training/test site in Germany where the Bundeswehr is operating a Mantis system (shown in the video) and that's probably all they have. Considering the short range you'd need to have thousands of these systems to cover just Ukrainian cities. Oerlikon-Bührle was purchased by Rheinmetall, but if they still produce components in Oerlikon, Switzerland the Swiss government will most certainly make sure that not a single system gets delivered to Ukraine :(

True, but it's important to remember that the opposing country sending the drones may not have the resources to mass produce drones. It's also important to factor in the cost of transporting several drones, in the form of fuel. It is likely the ammunition will be toned down as well, and the tank will be equipped with more mainstream ways of taking drones down, mainly signal jammers. And of course, because this thing can take on helicopters, planes, and possibly other tanks, it serves as three units rolled up into one. Because of this, specialized vehicles, such as tanks, anti air and jammers no longer need to be as abundant, saving costs on these vehicles, and now the savings can be spent on ammo.

@@nutzeeer No Gepard 2. Skyranger35 is effectively the Gepard replacement. Mounted on a Boxer it has a top speed of 103km/h (65-70mph) and the Boxer also comes in a tracked version. Skyranger/Skynex/Skyshield/MANTIS (it is all the same thing really) can shoot down ground attack aircraft (low flying jets & helicopters), missiles, drones, mortar and artillery shells. The turret is self-contained so you can mount it on anything able to carry 4.5t or on the ground to protect fixed targets like factories etc.

The ammunition contains small peaces of metal. You can imagine it as a big shotgun. While the bullets fly, they open up and a net of small units appears. It's like throwing a handfull stones against a honeycomb. Not every but one stone will hit it for sure.

Likewise, these weapon exports are subject to strict conditions which, for example, can also prohibit the onward transfer to third countries, usally require a precise documentation of the use of these weapons, etc.. Unfortunately, our Ministry of Defence here in Germany is not able to budget sensibly and make targeted purchases, so that the state of equipment of our Bundeswehr does not correspond to what would be possible due to our modern defense industry.

Let me rephrase your question. Is it possible to make a plasmon based ball lightning projectile tank? Is it possible to build a plasmon space-time shield around the tank's core? The answer to both questions is yes, I know of such publications from Israel (space-time plasmon shield). Except that it is not worth it because the tank is a primitive weapon for explosive warfare. Modern anti-gravity propulsion fighter aircraft or drones are better suited to the technologies outlined. Needless to say, there are many super-technological scientists working on this for all the major powers...

Made in Germany: you get what you pay. But the real thing is: How many can be made? German war-industry was down in sells for decades....(because Germany is a non-aggressive country for nearly 80 years) if production has to speed up... it WILL speed up... needs some time but never underestimate Germany.....
