German Premium Battleship "Anhalt" Review - World of Warships Blitz

I did managed to found out about Anhalt design or well at least the based of it, and it says here that: " Anhalt is based on the Linienschiff L21a, one of the numerous designs of battleships on which German engineers started working after the Battle of Jutland. Out of the various ideas that these designs were exploring was the possibility to fuse the concepts of battleship and battlecruiser into a new type of ship, the so-called fast battleship. Studies on Linienschiff L21a started in late December 1916. This design called for a displacement of 42 000 tons and a main battery consisting of ten 380 mm guns in five twin turrets. In World of Warships, Anhalt represents a modified version of the design with fifteen 350 mm guns in five triple turrets. She is also presenting an extensive modernization with a modern superstructure, lengthened bow, and modern anti-aircraft. Unlike other German battleships, she has no Hydroacoustic Search but she gets underwater torpedo tubes. "

Oh, so it is the L2 design after all... But with hypothetical turret config, since the designers were pretty clear of moving higher than Bayern's 380s, from what I remember

​@@FunandGameswithTerryWell suprisingly enough, the L2 Linienschiff did have a various different type of design. Such as the L20b, L20e, L24, and L24 e ą, which all have 8 x 420 guns. Then comes to the L21a design which what Anhalt is based on. Eventhough, the gun turret layout including the caliber were a hypothethical-design by WG. She is nontheless based on that design which featured 10 x 380mm guns.

I wrote off the Anhalt after the pass was out, it just felt so unlike most German BBs and BCs in the game. But after having played some slower BBs like the California and applying a similar play style with the Anhalt, this thing can do some monstrous damage and I find 100k+ damage games are not unusual. The lack of speed and manoeuvrability does mean you have to position a bit defensively, and ideally you don’t want to swap sides much since your turrets are very slow. The fact that they fixed the turret bug has definitely helped as well. Much to my surprise, I find myself liking the Anhalt… though it does help to have Lütjens with heavy AP ammo, APCS and soon citadel strike +. 😂

Glad you just brightened my day with a new video, because I just got a 12-games lose streak because I get donuts for teammates. Anyways I would say this is a nice and fun ship to play, something slightly different than the rest of the german battleship line.

Classic Wargaming matchmaking. 2 Tier IX in your team, no Tier IX in enemy team, but a Tier VII.

that's the fault of the fail division, not matchmaking. matchmaking does not allow 2 tier difference unless someone failed their division.

Considering how the Anhaltt gets the scout plane, it would not hurt to give it a PA to make the dispersion a bit better. Reducing the reload a bit would not be too bad of an idea. And the penetration needs some improvement as well. It might be a problem that it is in Tier VIII as well, which probably in Tier VII it can fare a bit better.

Love the video. Made me purchase the pass, and I absolutely adore the ship. I wonder if you find her as broken as I consider her to be. The sheer survivability, superior guns, and quick firing torpedoes. It's been a while since she took the highest place on my average damage chart.

Teammate like that Azuma is frustrating to deal with. No situational awareness at all. Anyway, dispersion is kinda okay by the appearance of shell spread, still better than Zieten and Bismarck at long range. Definitely a good ship. And Terry, have you encounter de-sync bug recently? A situation where enemy shell or torpedo did not hit part of the ship but still did full damage, I'll sent couple of footages if you could reach the dev sooner than anybody else and i think you can.

It always pains me when the team loses the game with a configuration that overwhelms the opponent. Last time we had a game with all t8 (with 2 subdivisions) vs opposite team mostly down tiered (only 3 t8 and 4 t7 or 3 t7 plus 1 t6), and we lost it. It might be over confidence or just not enough teamplays.

Honestly I don’t know if I like this ship or not. I enjoy the German battleship and battlecruisers but this isn’t even a cross between them. Depending on how it comes out I either might or won’t get it.

I like the idea, and under the right circumstances, it can work - but for a tier as full of competitive premiums like T8, I feel like the price for the 15 guns - low speed, poor pen, poor secondaries, poor torps, lack of skills - is just too high.

Same, I'm quite fond of them. Which probably introduces some bias - a new German premium BB needs to live up to a high standard, especially in T8. Now, I don't mind the "mashup" idea - German sniper battlecruiser - but if it's a main gun ship, those mains need to perform, and I'm not feeling that. Heck, Lyon has 340s, and she can absolutely wreck things close up.

Heh. Scattered salvos & not quick are indeed accurate. I just picked up the ship & did a practice round vs. AI. At range, her shots wander widely, but maybe random shot falls might produce some blind luck against a wildly zigzagging target or a closely bunched cluster of ships. However, in her favor, she is pretty decent at starting fires which helped against non-US ships. Perhaps HE against ships like the Amagi that you fought which stubbornly refused to be damaged by AP in your battle. Just a thought. ;-)

So Terry this ship is more of a Brandenburg than an Odin. It seems Anhalt is a ship to sit at the back and shoot from long range. Kind of like Kansas or Vladivostok to me. If this is a blitz pass I will consider getting it for a German sniping ship. If it’s a sonar forget it😂

Mostly t6 ship and some t7-8 if discounted. Warspite is a must get imo, Nelson as well, it's pretty op. Some t8 DDs can get as low as 7000 when discounted. Or just wait for special offers they usually have some goodies on sale.

It’s odd that it doesn’t have any of the regular ship skills that German BBs or BCs have - almost means you need to train a commander specifically for it (or reset one). Only other German ships I can think of that have a spotter plane are the Siegfried and Leipzig. It’s interesting how the reviews of this ship are a bit all over the place - some rate it very highly, others not. Should be interesting to see how it fits in. It seems more like a long range sniper than anything else - the torps are truly odd, and meh secondaries, I can see why you compare it to British battle cruisers, but it would be a pretty damn slow one 😂

Hey Terry. Good vid as allways. But in the last time your aiming struggles from time to time. Not enough lead etc. And in this vid not the dispersion is the problem. For minimum 2 salvos you didn’t realize, that your target was tourning. So that was the reason, you didn’t hit. I think, it’s a good ship. Not op, but really good. Just the normal problems on German BB - bad AA and burning like paper

I'd take an Odin or Cross of Dorn over this thing. It looks good on paper, but there is a big difference between paper stats and actual performance. 09/28/23 EDIT: I just got a trial of this ship, either they buffed the accuracy or I just got very lucky, the dispersion was fairly tight. I managed to one shot a cruiser with 5 citadel hits and the rest normal pen hits, I ended the battle with 2 kills and 75k damage
