German Regimental Beer Steins Collecting

Hi, I'm from Fortaleza, CE, Brazil. I have one Imperial German WWI Era Kaiserliche Marine Navy 1st High Seas Torpedo Boat Flotilla Beer Stein - dated 1907-1910. It is marked with "Mtr. Petersen". I didn't know it was so valuable. Wish I could read more about it history.

Hello, I listed some websites dealing with regimental beer steins in the description section for this video where you can find out a bit more about these beer steins. One thing you should know is that, after WW2, the German pottery companies went wild making reproductions of German pre-WW1 Regimental beer steins to satisfy the demand for these beer steins by American & Nato troops stationed in West Germany during the Cold War. I gave some examples in the video of some indicators that you have a reproduction beer stein if they are present. Personally, I would not pay more than $60US for a reproduction regimental beer stein & not expect to get my investment back should I sell, but I know some people want $100s for these beer steins. Remember a seller can ask for whatever they want for a beer stein but what the stein is worth is what someone is willing to pay for it. If it is possible, speak to a reputable antique dealer in your area who could give you a better idea of what your Torpedo boat beer stein is worth in Brazil.

I REALLY ENJOYED YOUR VIDIO. I WAS STATIONED IN U.S. ARMY WARNER PANZER KASERNE BAMBERG FROM AUG 1964-JAN 1967.WHILE THERE I BOUGHT 3 OLD BEER STEINS, ( ALL OF WHICH I STILL HAVE ) THE ONE THAT YOU WOULD BE INTERESTED IN IS A GENUINE PRE- W.W. I REGIMENTAL STEIN. IT IS THE STEIN OF FRIEDRICH BARR OF THE 19th ROYAL BAVARIAN INFANTRY ' KING VICTOR EMANUEL III of ITALY ' WHO WERE GARRISONED IN ERLANGEN, WHICH IS JUST A LITTLE SOUTH BETWEEN BAMBERG AND NURNBERG. IT HAS A LITHOPANE OF KING LUDWIG OF BAVARIA BUT INSTEAD OF HAVING A CAST PEWTER ARM OF SERVICE FINIAL, MINE HAS A LARGE DIAMOND CUT CLEAR CRISTAL IMBEDDED AND SECURED ON TOP OF THE LID. THAT HAS A PICTURE OF A SOLDIER HIDING HIS GIRLFRIEND IN HIS GUARD SHACK WHILE HE IS SALUTING AN OFFICER AND HIS GIRL AS THEY PASS BY HIS SHACK. IN THE TIME PERIOD I BOUGHT THIS WE WERE GETTING 4 MARKS TO A DOLLAR, AND I REMEMBER PAYING $ 13.50 FOR IT I TALKED TO A GUY AT THE " MAX " MILITARY / GUN SHOW. WHO SPECIALIZED IN SELLING ONLY GENUINY ORIGINAL STEINS, AND I DESCRIBED THE ONE I HAD, HE HAD ONE SIMULAR WITH THE CRISTAL TOP. HE TOLD ME SIGHT UNSEEN THAT MINE WAS WORTH $ 500.00 OR MORE . AND THAT WAS BACK IN OKT 2009 BUT I DON'T COLLECT THE FANCY ONES. WHAT I DO COLLECT IS THE I LITRE And 1/2 LITRE PLAIN GREY STONEWEAR MUGS WITH INDIVUDUAL BREWERY LOGO'S UNDER THE SALT GLAZE THESE WERE PUT OUT TO SERVE BEER TO THE LOCAL POPULACE FROM THE TOWN OR SURROUNDING AREA THAT THE INDIVUDUAL WAS LOCATED IN. NONE OF THESE WERE EVER MADE FOR EXPORT AND NONE OF THE REAL ONES ARE MARKED IN ANY WAY. I THINK MOST OF THEM WERE PROBABLY BROUGHT BACK BY SOLDIERS WHO WERE STATIONED IN THOSE TOWNS, DRANK THAT LOCAL BRAND BEER, AND BROUGHT BACK A SOUVINEER FROM THOSE DAYS . I MUST HAVE ABOUT 50-60 OF THOSE,! THOSE, TO ME ARE THE REAL GERMAN BEER STEINS, AND, YES, I HAVE MY OWN " BAMBERGER HOFBRAU " MUG THAT I DRANK OUT OF, AND BROUGHT HOME... I ALSO HAVE MY " TUCHER BRAU " MUG FROM NURNBERG . GOOD LUCK IN YOUR COLLECTING ! TOM

hello do you know where i can get a reproduction austro hungarian regt stein? i know there were limited runs back in pre ww1 austria but originals are too expensive so i am looking for a repro austrian regt stein.Richard

Hello Richard, I obtained my regimental beer steins on eBay, but there are also other auction sites as well. All I can suggest is keep checking them in the hope that the reproduction stein you are looking for turns up. Also be aware that quite often, when an original stein is listed, it is very often a reproduction as the German pottery companies turned them out in their hundreds to satisfy the demand for these steins. Many people are unaware they have a reproduction and list it as original, and of course there are also those who do so to scam an unsuspecting buyer.
