German shepherds are bright. My Mum had one when she was younger Apparently the dog would let anyone into the house, but the dog would only let you leave if you were shown out by a family member. Any intruders would have been caught.

My Kings Shepard was like that. He taught himself to do all kinds of things. He was the smartest dog I ever met We grew up together. He was my best fried for 16 years. I still miss him. I know I will never have another dog like he was..

I’ve had shepherds. You don’t have to teach them to be protective. Thing is, that natural instinct to protect the family can lead to misunderstandings when guests come over. Gotta socialize them really well if you want guests who come over to be safe. I don’t think there is a more all around useful dog. Just amazing intelligence.

Buck is absolutely an exceptional dog! No Doubt!! I don't know why German shepherd have a bad rap, but it's from ignorant people that don't know the breed! He is exactly what trainers look for while they're puppies, to go into the Police Force or to be a Blind Lead Dog, etc.... the list goes on. Buck certainly is in that category! What people don't know is German Shepherd's are in the working class group, that is what makes them happy, they want to work! They want responsibility, because their so smart, and they were breed to work! Buck loves to work, and as most all dogs want to please they're owners. He is a GREAT dog, and he found a way to have a job and please his owners! What a Super Dog!!

I was raised with German Shepherds and the are they are the most loving, protective dogs and will do anything to please you. On more than one occasion they were my great protector. You will never have to worry about your kids when you are not around but your Shepherds are.
