Hans is it okay to play rough with my dog? I think it would be a great video. your knowledge is highly appreciated! SEÑOR HANS!!!!

Yes it is OK. Always stay in charge and the dog needs to understand that it is you who initiates and can and will stop such play.

Great video! Do you think you could do a similar one about common dogs breeds used for protection (malis, dutchies, rottweilers, dobermans etc) based on their origins too?

I have really enjoyed listening to Hans and I will never understand why people have got to contradict someone who has so much knowledge and experiences with the German Shepherd. I enjoy hearing what he has to say but people will always ridicule and pull holes in anyone no matter if they are right or wrong because people are generally like this sadly. I am just a dog owner trying to do my best by my German shepherd and I do stupid videos but every now and then I get some assholes being very rude and there isn't any need for it . Shame how people can be . I get pulled holes in for my grammar and not saying things correctly as well but that's people for us. I didn't have a great schooling and I ain't as lucky as most so people are crewel and narrow minded. It will never change .

I own an Alapaha blue blooded bulldog. I wonder what’s Han’s take on these dogs, similar to the Scott American Bulldogs. Also I never owned a Shepherd, what is your take on Dutch Shepherds? Thanks. I seen one breeder in the states Logan Haus kennels.
@hans-alpinek9realАй бұрын
IMO opinion on Dutch shepherds is while good dogs for super experienced handlers, they are unnecessarily too much of a dog. There is a reason why they are relatively rare.

There is no better breed than a German shepherd. It does not exist they do everything better than everyone else they have discernment they can think for themselves and you can trust them with your life. My last b**** when she was less than a year old was at a park interceded when a very large Australian Shepherd was attacking a child. She got between the child and the dog bumped the dog halfway across the field with her body the dog ran back really fast and that's when she started showing teeth she grabbed it by its neck stood over it did not bite it or hurt it but held it there until the kids father ran across the field and offered to buy the dog from me he told me he'd go empty his retirement account. Everybody saw what happened she was laying by her water bowl playing with her ball she watched what happened and she was up and handling it before anyone knew what was going on. She saved me multiple times yet I could take her anywhere she was impatient in a hospital with me for 22 days and she accidentally caught a guy with explosives walking through the parking lot of a mosque on our daily walk. Now she was an extra good dog., there will never be another dog like her however she was a bi-colored German Shepherd smarter prettier and more beautiful than any other dog I've ever seen and probably smarter and definitely prettier than me. She was awarded years worth of dog food from a dog food company for the park incident as well as an award from the mayor

My 11 month old GSD is great with other dogs when he is OFF leash. Even when the dogs are barking or 2-3 dogs round him up, he is fine! He is mostly not reactive on leash when the dog doesn’t care . But when the dog looks at him or is coming near him or being reactive then he lunges and barks. I’ve exposed him to people and dogs since he was 8 weeks old. He now doesn’t bark at humans, kids, tree bark, people in general. But with dogs, he still reacts when on leash at close proximity. What do I do? I still correct him before he gets fixated on the dog but sometimes it doesn’t work. With small dogs he is fine but with big dogs his hair on his back still stands up and I know he is gonna lunge or bark. I correct him right before that but as I said it mostly depends on the other dog. My question is do I keep continuing what I’m doing until he is neutral on leash? Or am I doing something wrong? Bcos I don’t understand why he is good when he is off leash but not on leash. Thanks so much in advance

You should buy Hans training videos so you can study and understand the core ideas of his training. Then you can call/email him directly in private to ask for advice (sending video of the dog is very helpful to get a good read). Asking here for specific issue is counter productive because different people would have different take and nobody know your level so as to give the suitable course of action to help your dogs. For exampleA very advanced level handler may find something to be easy that they picked up as they grow up with packs of working dogs. Br those same things may require plenty of experience. Not everyone grew up with pack of dogs and much less working dogs.

The emphasis on the ""herding"" aspect really only takes real meaning when one considers the extreme exigence put on dogs for the "tending" style of sheep herding which was a necesity for the specific historical conditions of germay. After more social and political changes, V. Stephanitz (Cavalry Captain, nationalistic mindset, armed whith the then-new darwinian theories and observations) thoght that dog fanciers of the time were missing on the absolute best optimal dog in existence, which ought to be medium sized and wolfish in appearence, and he saw that the breed could dissapear due to less need for" tending" (i.e. live fence) dogs, so he came up whith the idea that thes "optimal" medium size dog could translate their abilities and talents for police work, so he crossed two geographical subtypes, the male for his physical, and the female for her mental characteristics. kinda crazy stuff

I had that thought a while back, doesn't shepherd mean moving/protecting sheep? Of course, I think I have the most versatile and best dog breed ever, my Ridgeback is great. And if you think about it, keeping a lion at bay is some serious herding.

So than why my herding dog doesn't herd but tries to eat herding object? I. E. Herding ball? But Australian Shephard herds it perfectly.
@lukeryuzaki23282 ай бұрын
Because yours is badly bred that had hound/hunting prey drive bred into it and upset the balanced instincts the breed supposed to selectively bred for. Australian Shepherd is a herding dog... I am sure if you're trying to be a smartass or just you're genuinely ignorant.

@@hans-alpinek9real what does animal aggression has to do with lack of herding skills? Like 0 or negative herding?

I actually have two herding dogs a border collie and the German shepherd. The GSD is not obsessed with herding or any other thing! I can easily call him off from anything he is obsessed with.
@lukeryuzaki23282 ай бұрын
There is a very difference take from the British and Continental European on what herding is about. For British, it's about gathering the livestock and guiding them toward a direction. While for European, their Shepherd dog is about patrolling a boundary whether it's a paddock of a field, or the formation. The job is to prevent infiltration from the outside and the inside. This is one key characteristic that means Continental European Shepherd dogs are more suitable to transit into protection work, patrolling, beside physique, bite grip, strength, nerve strength.l. German Shepherd is a true Shepherd, where as Border Collie and many herding dogs the British developed are more of specialist herder/gatherer.
@bash36812 ай бұрын
Thank you! That makes a lot of sense now.
@lukeryuzaki23282 ай бұрын
@@bash3681 You can look at HGH herding breed test/dog sport routine, and you can understand another side of German Shepherd ad other European Shepherd dogs. The dogs would act as a mobile wall/boundary to keep the livestock in, and protect against infiltration/danger from outside. The way Border Collie herd utilizes very much more prey drive. Triggering fear/ . Against some tougher livestock that fight back, it can get messy because Border Collie training (and their instincts) lack Whereas specifically German Shepherd's HGH breed test require the dogs to demonstrate again all rounded balanced drive, traits. The dogs are trained to fight the hard headed livestock correctly with certain level of bite inhibition so as to not to prevent life changing injuries the livestock. Herding in HGH is more like escorting exercise. The calmer, the more efficient it benefits the dogs and livestock, part of the routine is herding/escorting on town road with car moving by the side of the livestock herd.
@hans-alpinek9realАй бұрын
That is true. Herding dogs should always be judged by their original purpose.
