@@webcrawler9782 Tbh king shepherds are over all better in a more ethical point of view. King shepards don't have the distorted back legs like the german shepards do. It looks like some has bashed its back in.. The only reason german shepards look like this is because of its look "cool and more dangerous". It causes health issues (ofc) and most commonly hip dysplasia. This goes for many pure bred dogs aka the pug are unable to give birth alone now because its head is too big and most pups die due in birth. Cross breeds are just more healthier than any other pedigree breed. Why? When cross breeding the gene pool becomes more vast and avoids the chances of getting homozygous gene, which is the cause of about 300 genetic disorders, simply meaning you have a better chance of a healthier dog and also he becomes more unique! Not all german sheperds are bad ofc if you are wise when picking your breeder so it has a low hip score and he isnt from a puppy farm he can be very healthy. (I have only studied ethics for a year so i'm no expert)

Way back in the 60s and 70s, my paternal grandparents both used to train GSDs/Alsatians as guide dogs for blind people, predominantly as, back then, they more in fashion. Granted you tend to see more GRs and Labrador, but you still see a GSD/Alsatian guide dog, due to their intelligence and usually calm demeanour, & temperament. I am not surprised that a GSD can open doors. My grandparent had a stable-style kitchen back door, and had to attach a little 'fence' contraption to stop their last dog, Juno, an Alsatian, from jumping over the top of the bottom half of said door. You never could let her off the leash outside, as the result; on more than one occasion, my dad spent a good cursed-filled hour, chasing her around the 1+ acre front garden, whilst turning the air purple, before he finally caught her by her collar; watching her body language, she always had the time of her life when she did, as she always stopped just long enough to let my dad get close, before doing a 'happy bark', and run off again ... Granted, at first, she was a bit of an ankle biter, but even young me was able to take her for walks ... (My grandparents retired to a former farm house, in Suffolk, England, and was surrounded, on three sides by seperate arable farms, hence why it occupied some 2 1/4 acres of land. Best part was when a field right 'next door' was planted with peas. Even in the late 80s, the harvest could only gather so much, leaving a strip roughly a foot deep, but the width of the field. I used to help go out, and pick what was left; nothing quite like peas literally fresh off of the field, cooked, and eaten that day. Even frozen, you could still taste the difference, but shelling that much was a right pain in the thumb ... happy days ...)

it befuddles me why anyone would cast a thumbs down for a totally innocuous video with two types of doggies. BTW, my wife and I ran across a King a few summers ago while shopping in Westport, CT for a wedding gift. A woman and her daughter parked on the street in a convertible with this massive dog sitting in the back seat. They both got out and went separate ways while the dog just moved to the front seat (drivers side) and sat there "like a king". People went out of their way to steer clear of the car and some crossed the street. I laughed as I approached the car staying about four feet away while talking to the dog. He crossed over to the passenger seat closer to me. He really wasn't paying much attention to me but was looking at other people who were afraid. I inched up slowly, put my hand out and he licked it profusely! His owner came up and said "oh aren't you the brave soul". I looked at her and said why? She said he was a total baby and loved to be petted and talked to but very few people would even attempt it. That's when I first learned about the King Shepherd.

I have a 150 lb King German Sheppard but he does not have that long hair as seen on the video. I have had three regular Sheppards. My King I named Einstein. He is so gentle and nice. Some of the neighbors children ride him like a horse. He is kind with other dogs unless they bite him. Then it is all I can do to keep him from killing them. He loves almost everyone. He is so profoundly intelligent and loyal. My landscaper cam in the door and I was sleeping on the couch. My landscaper said Einstein showed him every tooth in his head. So he just locked the door and backed out. Einstein hates being left alone. He has more friends than I do. People will come over just to get on the floor and play with him. He is so beautiful and affectionate. If you ever get a chance to purchase one, take it. His only negative is he sheds his hair unlike any other dog I have ever seen. He is as close to being human. I have no idea what I will do when he passes away.

My son has this breed of German Shepard and he is terrific! Big, big boy! 125 lbs. Had him since he was a most adorable puppy. You do not want this breed in a small indoor area. That would be cruel for both of you. They are very intelligent from a very young inquisitive age. If you do not (like other herding breeds) keep them exercised and consistently training every day= as a puppy; you will have chaos on you hands. You really need to love training or really willing to learn how to train a dog. Very playful, loyal, loving, sweet, mischievous when bored. Not too stubborn when trained like some breeds. Triple layer coat; "Bjorn" lives in the mountains with his guardian (my son). Hot climate would be intolerable. I would cry to see this kind of beautiful spirit made to be a mean dog. He is sooo sweet, goofy, and gentle. He can be protective. Onetime their landlord tried to come in at 5 am without notice. Bjorn gave a warning bark .he still proceeded. As he was coming in, Bjorn lightly nipped him on the hand as a warning. No blood. No one told him or showed him to do that. That is a smart dog. He knew the man but he knew he shouldn't be there

I have a King Sheperd, he's so freaking smart. I taught him non verbal hand signals when he was a puppy and he even knows English and German commands too. I work crazy hours so I take him to my parents when I go out of town and twice he has woken my mother by licking her face when her blood sugar dropped to low. If my niece and nephews come over and someone knocks or comes over he will stand on guard in between them instinctively. When we go for walks he knows to sit and make eye contact with me before walking across the street. He's a monster who costs more to feed then myself lmao, seriously I try to spoil him with neckbones, raw turkey legs & wings, he freaking loves sardines, and liver. Bastard won't even touch dry-food now but his coat is so shiny and soft, and he's happy, healthy, and energetic so totally worth it 😍

Christian Macri So have I. Let me tell you, I currently have a king shepherd. He is much bigger and more muscular than the average German shepherd. No fighting genes? You’re wrong. Yes, King shepherds on average are much friendlier and compassionate with other dogs. But that depends on the dog and how it was raised. My king shepherd is very friendly, but would be more than willing to fight for his life or my own.
@christianmacri51665 жыл бұрын
@@necrot9693 The King Shepherd in my eyes is a mut. Its a cross breed of many dogs that don't have much reasonable attributes. The King Shepherd holds zero advantages on The Alsatian, besidses overall friendliness. This applies to only strangers making the King Shepherd a shit guard dog, as it mentioned zero DNA cells relating to guarding passed on from the Alsatian. This also means your Gs will protect you with its life, while your "more muscular" King Shepherd will greet its intruder with a fat kiss.

I've had the privilege of owning both. The information given here is mostly wrong! How the hell can they state that King Shepherds look 'horrific'?!? If that's not the understatement of the decade. Every time I walked mine (RIP), people would pull over to inquire and say how beautiful he was. It got so bad that I used to only do long walks at night so we weren't constantly interrupted. To say that GSDs are friendlier to strangers and other pets is another pantload! My King LOVED all other animals, big and tiny, right down to my Sugar Gliders. He could be wary of strangers he didn't know, but once he knew you, he was a buddy for life. My GSDs (if allowed) would chase any/everything that moved. Not my King, he mostly paid no attention to small animals. (Most) GSD pups are notoriously hard to train because they have a mind of their own, are easily distracted by outside stimuli and are very much about pleasing themselves - I'm not talking about simple behaviors, such as shake, sit, down, etc. I'm speaking of more complexity, as in heel, stay, off, leave it, etc.. Kings are all about pleasing you. My current GSD, when a pup would rather chase leaves blowing in the wind then walk properly on lead - even if a food reward was involved. My King's focus was solely on me - reward or not. A GSDs trainability goes up as they age. A Kings is there from the beginning. Their 'facts' are all a HUGE load of crap!

Had many German Shepherds over the years, from childhood to adulthood, lost last one about 2 years ago, I’ve owned 3 as an adult, Last was a rescue only had him last 3-4 years of his life. Love the breed and most of mine with minor exceptions have been excellent, smart & very obedient. Had one that was neurotic & never settled down. Most of mine were generally between 90-110lbs if healthy. Always had males. The King Shepherds look interesting, but the long fur could be problem in the southern region I reside in. I would love to get another GS, But we already have 4 dogs now, One is another rescue that wandered up a couple years ago, And recently got my daughter an Australian Shepherd, he’s only 12 weeks old, cute little guy. King German Shepherds were bred from regular German Shepherds selecting for size. Genetically they are the same. The problem with the over-sized GS was their hips/elbows were not able to be certified normal.

It's not called a King German Shepherd... it's called a King Shepherd, and it has other breeds in it that aren't in the German Shepherd. One of those breeds is a Malamute.

No. the King Shepherd has other breeds mixed in, like the Malamute, that the German Shepherd doesn't have. They're not the same. The American Kennel Club doesn't recognize the King Shepherd.

King Shepherds aren't a thing, just people breeding GSDs to be bigger which will end up with even more skeletal issues. People have been doing the same with Huskies, breeding them to be as big as 80-100 pound GSDs and they're full of hip, spine, and joint problems. The Husky we adopted only lived till he was 8 because of breeders valuing coin over the health of their dogs.

I don't know about the latter, but my paternal grandparents (long since passed) always used to get their GSD to 'prewash' all the plates. Still had to wash them in soapy water, though ...

Seems like they are both nice dogs.As for them claiming the King is just a mutt,all breeds started off as mutts.Even your Favorite. The main difference is some mutts were deliberate with a purpose.While others were/are accidental.

Actually I don't want a friendly dog but a guard dog, who is going to kill to protect the family. So why you always have to lie about dogs? A friendly dog who plays with a kitten is a minus not something I want to have. Sick world.

My neighbor's adult King shepherd unexpectedly attacked our equal sized but still puppy 1 year old Great Pyrenees. It does seem like an aggressive breed. They were sitting side by side waiting for a treat when it suddenly attacked. Those two would have fought to the death if we hadn't broken them up.

It’s clearly a a German Shepard owner who made this video word choice is poor facts are mostly off and favoring the GSD. The king shepherd is almost 75% GSD with two other breeds that are just about 50% GSD meaning this giant beautiful king shepherd is just as smart, loyal, kind, Protective, as a GSD but with all of the bonuses of the other breeds and non of the illnesses of inbreeding a.k.a. Pure blood GSDs. I own, owned, and will own GSDs my whole life but the dream is to make a king my last shepherd. Other then the bias it’s a good video

I had no idea that I had actually gotten myself a King Shepherd until a couple of years ago. Everyone just thought I had a bigger than average GS. It's everything though, the straight back, the fluffy plume tail, the long coat, the hair on the thighs that make it look like he's wearing shorts lol and the big fluffy face that makes him look like a bear. People always stare at him-not sure why!

Have nothing against this new breed of shepherd, since 1990s. I've just read how they too can easily develop hip dysplasia. So it seems to me if you want to create a bigger german shepherd without the not-good-for-the-dog sloped spine, you'd care enough to take the time to breed out the dysplasia since it too is caused by improper breeding. The main difference is the size.
@foilist16 жыл бұрын
I like the king and Shiloh shepherds b/c they are bigger, and they do not have the severe sloping top line and severe angulation of the hind legs for the flying trot. A GSD with those kind of legs looks lame when walking. Tina Barber developed the shilohs b/c the GSDs did not look like or behave like the GSDs she knew when she was a child. If you look at pictures of GSDs in the 1930’s you’ll see they are very different than today’s GSDs. I hate the roach back of many GSDs today. Developers like Tina Barber and the developers of the kings are also aiming for a shepherd dog with a calmer, more stable temperament, better health, and longer life, along with intelligence. So many large to giant breeds of dogs have a short lifespan, it is sad to see them die in under ten years. I look for the day when these kinds of dogs will have a consistent lifespan past ten years.
@gsdmomb5306 жыл бұрын
foilist1 Sorry to say but she had absolutely no clue. She stated that she developed this breed because that's what they looked like back in the day. She is full off shit. They were NOT a large breed and they did not weigh 120 + lbs. Look back and see what they looked like. Look back and see how they were bred by the original creator Max. There were no roach back GSDs. My mom lived in Germany for 10 years. I still have a pic of her and her GSD. My mom is 81. I have owned this breed for 35 years. They are working lines. They don't have the roach back as MY breeder breeds to standard. This breed is being ruined and it pisses me off.
@foilist16 жыл бұрын
I agree with you about the ruining of the breed. The sloping topline and roach back don't look good. The thing I don't like about dog shows is the focus on the appearance. They really need to check the dog's temperament. Check that the dog has the ability to do what it was bred to do. I think many dogs are unable to do their original purpose.

@scotte0165 жыл бұрын
King Shepard is basically a made up of cross bred dog. Like a labradoodle. It states in the video that Malamute was used in the creation. This takes away some of the base of the breed in it's natural form. Simply appears there trying to make a larger German Shepard. To many breeds out there now that would fill that bill. Antolian Shepard, Caucasian Shepard both of which are very large, healthy and ancient breeds.
@laurafedora53854 жыл бұрын
King Shepherd isn’t a real breed, they are mixed with Great Pyr. Solved it for you. GSD’s aren’t supposed to be 100lb+ animals. Working line Shepherds are probably on the 60-90 lb range. My WL GSD is a large girl (kept fairly lean) and is 65-70lbs
@JohnDoeEagle15 жыл бұрын
Standards get a lot bigger than 95 pounds. A average medium sized female is around 75ish. Males push 100+ "IF" you don't starve them...............

He is very protective of me devotedly loyal and will posture fiercely fast yet I easly taught him to never bite a human unless comanded to by me he is far and away the smartest and strongest dog I have ever seen the breed isn't accepted yet but I think everyone will want this type absolutely the best on the plànet!!!

2:10 GSD puppy MUST uphold the breed's honor! King puppy, ehh...not so much. Looks a bit like an extra floofy coyote pup. The guard dog at work looks quite a bit like a King Shepherd, maybe he is one. I think his paperwork says "Dutch Shepherd" or possibly "Daniish Shepherd", he's a big floof who thinks he's a lap dog. Good Boy, though, he LOOKS like a monster. That being said, he's pretty much the boss's kids' bodyguard at this point. His name's Titan, which is quite fitting... 115 pounds of "arf".
