When I visit war cemeteries all I think about is the brilliant scientists and artists who we lost before they had a chance to contribute. War is hell.

I am from Bangladesh. In my city here about more than 500 graves of European soldiers who got killed by Japanese army and air strikes. Whenever i went there i feel these fallen soldiers must had their families waiting. Many indian soldiers also fought on british side and never returned. May all those lives rest in peace. Need to do somthing to stop war throughout the world. 😥

I visited the war cemetery in Trinkomaee in East of Sri Lanka where 2nd world War British and Indian sailors are resting. It 8s a small cemetery well maintained ever green clean I read the names of all in the cemetery many Tamilians and Sihkhs.

Very grim compared to the American cemetery. Like my uncle, most of these men weren't Nazi's, but were drafted into service. Fortunately my uncle captured at Stalingrad in 1943 came home in 1948.

What a horrible sight, so very many young men wiped off the face of the earth. Now they rest in their eternal sleep. The names on the headstones let them live yet a bit longer. Auf Wiedersehen Deutsch Soldatens. FYI: Lommel German war cemetery is located at Kattenbos (nl) in the municipality of Lommel, Belgium. It is the largest German military cemetery in Western Europe outside Germany itself. Established after World War II, the 16 ha cemetery holds 39,102 burials, mainly from World War II.

If anything , one could argue that more Allied soldiers fought for ideological reasons being that you can actually count actual volunteers rather than just drafted conscripts. Most Germans were pulled into service, and told various reasons for the fight but ultimately those especially in the East realized they were fighting to simply defend elements of the Fatherland from soviet pillage. The average German was not fighting for some NSDP party slogan

The bodies of most of the 6th army's fallen were burned on huge pyres shortly after the battle was over. Reports on the number of ( German) bodies pulled out of the ruins of Stalingrad range from 40,000 to 150,000.

I've walked German soil, talked with German vets from that time, and can tell you they fought for Germany 1st, that yo-yo 2nd. My point was that to the draftee soldier , without any information but what was given to them from state run newspaper and radio ... was driven much less by ideology than by survival, defense of the fatherland, and to a limited amount even diluted revenge. Were there crazed exceptions? Of course ... but the party meant little but economic advancement to the common grunt.

@MagicMutilator6000 When was a cemetery 'demolished'? link? And why would they? Schönholzer Heide und Tiergarten still stand in Germany today for fallen Soviet soldiers. I couldn't imagine Russia risk losing (beautiful) monuments for their fallen to destroy a small German military graveyard.
