After this match it is well documented, especially Van Breuekelen was so irritated about it he decided before the match against the Danes he would quit due to the arrogance. As an example, they could have looked at the match DK vs Sweden. But they decided to watch formula1. That has always been a weakness of the Dutch, not just this team but also the team of 1974 for instance. Arrogance. selfsatisfaction of some keyuplayers.

How Tragic that Van Basten was finished 1 year later, he would have been awesome at USA 94 and Euro 96, but he still did marvellous things in Euro 88 and with AC Milan and Ajax, my favourite player ever.......

yes,,I agree with you ,,although I was with Germany as very strong team in 1988-1992 in world ,,but Holland were unbelievable ,,they were brilliant on the green field , Germany were champion 1990 at that times and they lost with 1-3 againest Holland .

He got very irritated by the extreme arrogance of mainly the three from Milan nut also others. He warned them during the training, he warned them they were not sharp enough at all. And reacted like whatever he said was just laughable. When he wanted to look at the games of the Danes, Gullit and others also did not listen. They prefered to look at Formula1 racing. And so we got what w deserved. The Danes won and rightfully so even though in the extra time they were barely hanging in there.

That semifinal was so exhausting for the Danish players (and also to watch) that everyone expected a German win in the final. But Peter Schmeichel was incredible in this tournament and the whole team played like there was no tomorrow.

Well...1988...But most of the time you are right. It has to do with arrogance (1974, most of all 1990 and 1992) and at other times some teams were simply a bit better.

Ongelofelijk dat dat team het toernooi niet won. Denemarken zou wel ‘ even’ opzij gezet worden waarna de finale dan nog eens tegen Duitsland de echte revanche van 1990 moest gaan worden. Van Basten Gullit Rijkaard Koeman Bergkamp in een team, Van Breukelen was een topkeeper in zijn tijd, Wouters en Van Tiggelen als bikkelaars en bv op de bank nog types als Jonk Winter Kieft Blind. En dan vergeet je te winnen tegen Denemarken... ( overigens compleet terecht)

O Zero zeker, 1998/2000 net zo. Maar toen waren er ook andere topteams. Duitsland 1974 was bv regerend Europees Kampioen, Bayern de EC1 winnaar met Beckenbauer, Maier, Muller, Breitner etc. In 1998 waren er legio sterke teams ( Frankrijk Brazilie Argentinie) , echt een sterk bezet tournooi. Maar in 1992 kon geen enkel team tippen aan het potentieel wat Oranje daar had. Kijk eens naar de poule of de andere poule. Ook Duitsland niet, dat was lang niet zo sterk als het team dat in 1990 WK werd. Oranje had veruit de sterkste selectie. Als je alleen al de uitzendig terugzag hoe ze Duitsland konden wegzetten, wat de grootste concurrent was. Alleen Denemarken nog even opzij zetten zodat Duitsland zou wachten in de finale en ze daar definitief de uitschakeling van 1990 zouden rechtzetten. Koeman, Wouters en Van Breukelen hebben dat later wel vaker gezegd, die wedstrijd werd volledig onderschat en daar ging het mis.
