The price tags you mention are ludicrous!!! The price for a Leopard 2A7 is 6,6 Mio €, so the 2A8 will most likely be between that and 7,5 Mio €.

Well , an F35 Fighter Jet costs 100 Million US Dollar... , you can buy 3 Leopard 2A8 Tanks for that . Besides , Rhenmetall developed an unmanned Turret for the KF51 Panther , the designation is KF51 - U . Tanks will still be needed in Future , their Defence vs Drones will be strenghtend with automatic Systems /Turrets and they will be accompained with a short/ middle Range AA Tank like the Gepard successsor Skyranger 30 . Drones in general are relativly slow and because of it relativly easy Targets . They are sucessfull in Ukraine becasuse the Infantry has not really a Weapon against them , they would need short Range AA support equipped with Radar like a Gepard or Skyranger 30 but the Gepards in Ukraine have to protect Citys and strategic Targets like the Energy Infrastructure against Russian Drones and cruise Missiles .

The 2A8 is indeed not a 2A8, it’s a modified 2A7 on which they tested the Trophy system. The actual 2A8 is supposed to be a complete redesign of the Leopard 2

The costs are completely mixed up here. The Leopard 2 A8 costs include the whole service package etc. they are also about to place an order for the successor - likely named Leopard 3 - with an unmanned turret before the MGCS is introduced in the 2040s or 2050s.

I love how they say NEW TANKS. These are old tanks that are up graded. The Brit Challenger 3 up grade is not allot. They are going to the inferior smooth bore 120mm cannon. Then some new electronics and fire control, changing gun type, and added on armor so the 62 ton will even heavier with no change of the engine.

didnt you listen? based on real world price Poland as a customer has to pay for it Poland got 180 K2 for $ 3.25billion thats ~ $ 18 million each single K2

@@nagmashot This price includes training simulators, a lot of spare parts, maintenance training etc. - Mostly in contract for the first deliveries. Later the "extras" included in such contracts are not needed and the price drops drastically.

@@DSP16569 That counts for almost any prices in this list... the tank price is $17 million the overall price is $18million each tank including all extras ...get over it fanboy The K2 is not the cheapest modern "western" tank...especaly most of its orginal components are german like gun transmission and engine .... it took south Korea a decade to develop less reliable own transmission and engine that for a fun fact is more heavy than the MTU engine at the same power but designed 40years later... fun fact the Korean Army lowered realiablity standarts to get their own transmission and engine through the Army demands

And some simple dones (swarms) can take them out at a fraction of the their costs. The Leopard II and Abrams were even withdrawn bu the Ukraine from the front for their vulnerabilitiyes. The more engineered these tanks become, the more difficult to maintain and manage. In this instance Russian and Chinese tanks may look technology outdated, in sufficient numbers they rule the battlefield.

hey Mate, check out the Videos from the eurosatory 2024 we are aware of it :) War = Innovation ... Every new German military vehicle except for a few trucks gets anti-drone capabilities. Several anti-aircraft variants on armored vehicles, partly on track, partly on wheels. Even the infantry fighting vehicles with their 30-35mm cannon are able to fight entire swarms of drones. @@TheMexxodus several are in progress / The ARC3.0 is from KNDS its a joint venture with Kraus Maffei wegman & Nexter from france.. they are up to build a new tank concept with the name Main ground combat system and the Arc 3.0 is a step in this direction. Rheinmetall normaly build the Cannon for the Leo 2 up to the version 2a8. Rheinmetall was pissed because they are not much involved in the MGCS program so they created the KF 51 Panther and they are building now some versions of thos new tank and bring it up until the product is ready for large-scale mass production. Possible first customer is Hungary. KF 51 Panther is already available with 2 selectable turrets, manned and unmanned. The development of the armored hull is not yet fully completed, so far they use a modified Leo 2 hull, but this will soon be exchanged for a new product.
