What are some of your favorite Easter items and traditions in Germany? Would you enjoy seeing more challenge videos? If so what are some stores you would love to see for other challenges?

When I was a kid, my favourite easter items have been plastic eggs which can be opened to put some stuff inside. The bottom part was white and the other part had some different color. On easter (or a day before?) parents from the hood hid a lot of eggs on the Spielplatz and we had to find all those eggs. That was fun. Today I don't celebrate easter but I still like the tiny yellow Osterküken made from chenille. People use them to add some decoration onto a gift or an easter decoration.

Usually, easter is not about presents, except for eggs and some chocolate. But we usually keep it tiny.

We tend to have easter nests that are basically smaller versions of baskets. But of course traditions vary between regions and families. Chocolate bunnies and chocolate eggs are I think the most popular items. Lind and Milka are the most popular brands and everyone in Germany grows up with them. Other easter-themed products that come to mind would be Katjes Grünohrhasen or, of course, Kinder Surprise Eggs although these are also available outside of the Easter season.

The little Easter nests are so pretty! Someone else mentioned these and we looked them up and just loved them! And I sooooo thought about getting a Kinder egg for Casey but put it back at the last second. Glad to know they are popular during Easter though for next year! 🤗

Strictly speaking, Milka is a Swiss company - but the chocolate is produced in the German border city of Lörrach. Lindt chocolate, however, is definitely from Switzerland. But with the coffee cup it showed again - there was still the price on it; typical man 😂. Oster Grüße means easter greetings. A great idea with the challenge. So even I would enjoy shopping again. Great Video and I love it. 👏👍👍

That's so funny because I thought so on both of the chocolates but couldn't remember 100%. haha and yes about the price tag! So true and funny! He also made me laugh because we had extra cellophane for him but he just came out of the room after putting my basket together and said ''nope. the cellophane just isn't happening" lollll. Loved everything he picked though! I immediately put out the wooden bunny. So glad you enjoyed coming along for our little challenge!

6:05 We bake such an „Oster-Lamm“ each Easter using one of those forms. It serves as table decoration at breakfast and is finally eaten for Kaffee und Kuchen after a long afternoon walk (Oster-Spaziergang) or bike ride (Oster-Ausfahrt). The symbolism is Jesus Christ as „the lamb of god“ who’s sacrifice takes our sins away. It used to be tradition to slaughter a lamb for Easter. The little cake is a remnant of that.

Well, the next "German" Challenge will be cooking the famous white asparagus. I heard it's not really known in the US and it has a different taste like the green asparagus. Unlike the green, you have to peel the white one or you'll have to chew on the hard skin forever. The challenge will not only be the peeling and cooking, but how you do it. That's because there are sooo many different ways to do it. The classic one (and in my humble opinion the less favorite) is to boil it in water until it's soft and almost tasteless and then eat it with a homemade hollandaise sauce (please, not any put-in-a-box-and-ready-to warm-up one, because that's a sin). But you can also fry the raw asparagus in a pan, eat it raw in a salad or put it in the oven covered with cheese. You even can make a salad from cooked asparagus with some mayonnaise and pieces of cooked ham in it.

Yes!! We absolutely want to try to cook the Spargel! Definitely not as well known in the US, but because we garden we had heard about it a couple times from some gardening KZbinrs we watch. Still have yet to eat it though as it isn’t something I’ve ever seen out at a restaurant in the states. The cheese covered sounds delicious to me 😆😆. Maybe we will try to make it several ways!

@@CompassChronicleTravelsThere's never enough cheese. If you can see what's under the gratinated cheese, it's not enough cheese. You also can gratinate cheese with cheese.😂😂

Milka (Name is a Fusion of Milch & Kakao) ist German. An Easter Safari 😅. Great job. That baked lamb ist really traditional. About brands: Milka and Lindt are not German but very popular and good quality. Maybe you've seen items from Kinder. That's actually German. His bag with cookies from Leipniz ist actually German too. Allways to have some coins ist just smart 😉. And the baskets: Maybe your cat loves the empty baskets 😅 At the end: the other day you mentioned aspargus. It's coming soon. We're already waiting for it. We love it. In many variations.

We actually do not have plastic easter baskets or buckets here but more an "Osternest". (best google for pictures!) My mom used small bread baskets for us for the easter hunt (we did not have to search the small stuff together for long - she just hid that little bread basket for us. Today you might even use them made from cardboard etc. Baked easter lamb cakes (or in my family it is a rabbit) about every family bakes on Easter. The family traditions in my family is e.g. to eat Green Sauce with Eggs and potatoes on Gründonnerstag (the day before Good Friday) and vegetarian on Good Friday. We usually meet on Sunday with the whole family (all of us are adults now) - this year it was Monday as my brother could not make the Sunday date. We had asparagus with a sauce hollandaise, potatoes and some pork, salmon and little schnitzels to it. But I guess every family has its own traditions.

Yes, you could say Milka (which is from "MIlch" and "KAkao") was founded in early 19th century in switzerland, but moved to germany at the beginning of the 20th century and has been in germany for over hundred years, later got sold to kraft suchard company and even later to mondeleyz. so it is just part of a giant multinational food corporation but it is about the most generic "german" chocolate you can get. It is a bit like with Kinder/Ferrero, which is original from italy where they were a small company but moved to germany in the 20th century got super successful, took their success from grmany back to italy and then conquered the whole of europe and later the world. Like Döner Kebap which is original from turkey but came to germany got pimped a little and became a hyper success. Lots of stuff that comes to germany got assimilated and i would consider them original german now. Like Lindt which is clearly a swiss company, but the golden chocolate easter bunny and also the red chocolate santa claus is 100% a german staple and definately became a german tradition. Other typical german easter treats would various egg shaped sweets like chocolate eggs filled often with Eierlikör which is something you have to try one day, or eggs made of wavers with varius creme fillings. Also the Osterlamm which you showed at 4:10 is somethign i would definately consider pretty eastery in germany. But most pasteries germans typically would get at their local bakery. For decorations typical german items would be Osterglocken, Weidenkätchen and Forsythie with its bright and yellow colors. And dedicated families blow out eggs and paint the empty shells colorful which definately was a tradition for me growing up.
@CompassChronicleTravels
@CompassChronicleTravels Жыл бұрын
Ahhh that makes a LOT of sense about things being brought here and becoming successful. We definitely had some initial confusion on certain brands or foods being from here or not. That’s very helpful! We will have to try the Eierlikör filled eggs for sure! I hadn’t heard of that before but looked it up so that should be interesting too! We have a Forsynthie at our house and didn’t even know it so that’s pretty cool! We definitely want to try baking the Easter lamb cake next year too but maybe will try from a local bakery as well because they’re always so amazing!
