The lovely thing about the whole trolley thing is, during the pandemic they kept the trolleys unlocked (not sure why, l don't think it would have made much of a difference, you're already touching the trolley all over). And they were still brought back where they belong. Even nowadays you still have trolleys that aren't locked and people keep them unlocked but still park them in the proper location.
@fenikkusu48938 ай бұрын
Yeah, my Aldi around the corner still has them unlocked, because not a single one during the pandemic was found on the parking lot or got stolen. So they just decided to keep them unlocked. A cashier told me, that they even save some time and nerves, because nobody is asking, if they could change their money for some coins to use the trolley.
@Ceen3288 ай бұрын
At the start of the first huge lockdown, they used the trolley as a counter for how many people were allowed to enter each store. That was regulated by the floor space of the shop. So smaller Aldis were allowed less people at the same time, than lager ones.

Every German: Things have become so expensive!1!!! Every other person in the world: Why are things so cheap in Germany?
@wandelndeslexikon16148 ай бұрын
To the Germans things seem so expensive, because we have the biggest low wage sector in Europe. The latest adjustments don't even cover the inflation.
@DJone4one9 ай бұрын
It is so cheap because large quantities are often purchased. (However, the packaging no longer contains as much as it used to). In the meantime, due to inflation, things have sometimes become twice as expensive and the contents have shrunk at the same time. And because most of it is made here in Germany. You also have to add a lot of import fees and the like to the item. That's why some British companies have emigrated to Europe since Brexit or have set up a subsidiary there, so that they can get into trade more easily. 14:47 The very cheap things are mostly foodstuffs that are produced in factories of 1000 pieces or more. The pretzels for €0.29 are produced by the million, frozen, baked and placed on the shelves. 15:50 Dickmann means fat man.

Moin Moin from Berlin. Very entertaining how surprised you were by our prices. The red signs were offer prices. So reduced for a limited time.

We Germans dont see that but we always had the cheapest prices on food in West Europe. Price fighings between the major supermarkets to hold the customer. And "Brötchen" in the UK would be a breadroll

If you go to Aldi to get your groceries in the US they have the special grocery carts where you can push the cart into another when your done and get your change back. Sometimes we'll give the next person a cart and smile. No change needed. Glad to help another.

1:46 We have Aldi's here in America and they do that, Costco used to do that a long time ago. 19:13 At Aldi's which I think is a European discount store but at all these here in America not only do you have to load your own groceries but you also have to bring your own bags and check yourself out They don't have any cashiers. You said that people steal carts are they really not going to steal it just to get that dollar back? And here in America the few places that do it it's a quarter that you put in, 25 cents 6:48 The year 2000 was the last time I was in France, but while we were staying in Perpignon France, We went to what was listed as the casino but that was the grocery store and while we were there we were looking at all kinds of things and found wine really cheap, so we started looking for the cheapest wine that we could find and we found a half a liter bottle of wine for $0.05, I don't drink my friend did We went ahead and bought a bottle and she said that she couldn't tell it apart from other wines she had drank. It was in a plastic bottle with a screw on top but it was $0.05. When we went on a drive to Spain while driving there we took a detour to a winery, and out front they had what looked like gas pumps but it wasn't for gas it was for wine if you brought your own containers and there were like six different varieties to choose from and each one just had a different price on it and you'd buy it the same way that you'd buy gas.

Be prepared for food sticker shock when you come to the USA. I go to UK every other year. And when I go to the markets, I still can't believe how inexpensive your food is and that it's SUCH high quality. And again, the milk is SO good. Our milk (homogenized) tastes burnt to me when I get back from EU/UK because of how high temp we sterilize our milk. It takes me a month before it starts to taste 'normalish' back here. Wait until you go to the packie (What we call liquor/spirit stores in MA, package stores) I think they are called all sorts of things depending on the state you are in. Here our Wine and spirits are very pricey. Even cheap wine starts at about $12

The most of the time he says Dollars, it's Euro, 2 € are 2,15 US Dollar or probably more. It's not so cheap here in Germany anymore. We do have Heinz Ketchup but without corn sirup. The products we have are mostly with normal sugar.

If you can't get the spice ketchup from Hela, here is the recipe for making curry sauce. 500 ml pureed tomatoes, 200 ml cola, let simmer gently for 30 minutes. Then add 40 grams of curry powder, 10 grams of salt, 100 grams of brown sugar, 2 grams of cinnamon powder, 1 gram of nutmeg powder, 5 grams of chili powder. This ketchup is already ready, guten Appetit.

10:26 the product had several names, but the name he is reffering to is the old name "n*gerküsse" (translated more or less to "kisses of a n-word") or mohrenkopf (translated more or less "head of a mohr" (mohr is another german person for people from africa, coming from the muslim states in north africa and iberia which were called "mauren" in german)
@torstenmuller84778 ай бұрын

One small correction: Not the Ni-word, but the Ne-word, the one that's simply "black" in Latin and only got tainted by what the US did.
@soewenue8 ай бұрын
@HenryLoenwind yeah u are right. Have read a bit about the Evolution of the latin word "niger" and would now say the "best translation" would be the english term "negro" or? Still not a real translation, but would say it is the closest we have. Don't know if u can answer it, but I assume Ur first language is english based on the name Henry

our haribo now also is verry expensive i feel like sweets and candy got hit the hardest by inflation especialy price value whise ots like its between 20 and 100 % more expensive than 2 years ago and when they noticed they couldnt raise the visible price any longer they chose either shrinkflation or scamflation(using worse ingredients) and my dad still speaks of adding a sugar tax lmao (hes not smart)

There are a handful of states in USA that recycle bottles and cans. Aldi carts cost a quarter. Not everyone takes their quarter out when returned.

I am German and actually live in this city where this market is. It's an old market, that previously belonged to another chain. If you think those prices are low, you should go to a supermarket in Eastern Europe, like Poland or Romania. I was in Romania around two years ago, and if you go to the Kaufland there, it's much cheaper than the supermarkets here in Germany. And we have lots of different Bread. The German Bread Register counts 3551 different sorts of bread.

Things in the supermarket used to be cheaper than they are now. Inflation has made things more expensive in Germany, as the Euro we use to pay for things is worth less than it actually was. The red slips of paper with prices on them are things that are currently on offer because they won't last long. That's why you pay half as much. But these red prices used to be the normal prices for the items. A Milka bar used to cost 0.99 euros in Germany and when it was reduced, it only cost 0.35 euros. Things aren't as cheap as you think in Germany. That's just one example with the Milka bar. You used to pay a total of 90 euros for a completely full shopping cart and now you have to pay 150-200 euros or much more for a completely full shopping cart.

Kaufland is pretty neat. They build the stores bigger and add small "stores" that they rent to smaller buisnesses. These smaller buisnesses can then profit from the people passing by on the way to buy food. Kaufland gets extra money and the shops gets more customers. Pretty smart.

"dick" in german just means "fat" so he was saying the sausage was pretty fat like in size. It's actually pretty funny because most native English-speaking people are always reacting so funny when you say "dick" in a german sentence, they always get so confused and are like:" is this inappropriate?" 😂
