Whenever the sun is out, even if it's snowing, the germans come out feom their homes. The difference is that, they still wear their jackets. 😊

I can relate to many points 😬 I lived in England for 5 years and now in Germany for 5 years and I'm going back to my Heimat in a week. I am incredibly grateful for the experiences and insights I gained in both countries, I feel like I am a more complete person ❤ P.S. You both are lovely 🥰 Grüße aus Hamburg ⚓️

Different policy for GP appointments, depends on the practice. At mine, in Colchester, just turn up at 08h00 and you get seen in turn. No need for a phone call in advance

I can't understand why there shouldn't be charity shops in Germany ... There are several large social organizations (Diakonie, Red Cross, AWO, Kinderschutzbund, etc.) that run shops in many cities. They are often just called second hand stores, but they are Sozialkaufhäuser/charity shops. Smaller initiatives also operate shops and we now also have oxfam. In my city (population 300,000) there are at least 6 charity shops. In two of them you can even buy furniture. Are there more shops in UK towns? Or are they cooler?
@EasyEnglishVideos
@EasyEnglishVideos 18 күн бұрын
We would’ve mentioned that it does exist in Germany… but just not on the same scale. Brighton and Hove has just under 300,000 and there’s easily over 50 charity shops. George Street in Hove alone has 11. We love them 🫶

LOL that is what we think of all Brits and Germans in Portugal. Beach and short weather is only June, July, august and September and yet both wear shorts and t-shirts and bathe in the Atlantic Ocean all year long! Unless you are a surfer, bodyboarder, fishermen that is a NO! 😊 Wear what you like! Do you! Be happy!!!

You are a bit unfair to Germany. For example, by law nobody can prohibit walking in private woods. Also there are no private beaches.

Cash: Germans love cash. Usually the smaller amounts of money are paid in cash, while the bigger ones may be paid by credit card. We even have a proverb for using cash: "Bargeld lacht" - Cash is smiling (= Someone pays in cash, instead of getting a bill, which is paid sooner or later). In the past it was common that companies gave sales discounts at customers paying immedeately or cash ("Skonto"). Smaller amounts of money should be paid in cash, because this is the most efficient way (or at least was). The other reason why Germans love their cash: Cash means privacy. Germany has a history of dictatures, Nazi or Socialist. More or less a cultural-psychological approach. If You will pay cash, You will stay more or less anonym.

Regarding payments in Asia, A lot of Koreans use Samsung Pay, and often only carry a phone, not even a wallet, while I'm a credit card plastic guy, so I do carry a wallet. 99% of merchants have a credit card machine, but interestingly, many Koreans don't know about the "tapping" payment, so they ask you to insert a card. In Korea exclusively, they also take "bank transfer" as a form of payment, which does require a Korean bank account. In Hong Kong, many take "Octopus" card which is a transit card, but it works in many restaurants and stores. A lot of merchants do take credit cards, and QC code payments, but a fair number of places still take cash only. In Japan, many take "IC" cards which are transit cards around the country (SUICA for Tokyo, for example), and they work similar to how Octopus would work in HK. Japan was known for cash-only. This changed since covid. Similar to HK, a lot of merchants do take credit cards, and QC code payments, but a fair number of places still take cash only. I guess HK and Japan are similar to Germany. I heard Mainland China uses QR code payments, so many people carry a phone only as well. I wonder if you can survive with just a phone in UK?

Thanks for the information! I love digital payments, I hated having to carry around a wallet that's full of money, or having to go to the ATM machine on a night out. I love your question! I feels like an episode we should make of me trying to get from my house and onto a plane using only my phone. 🤔
