Yup... How dare he try to get into a pitchers head using the rule book (that he didn't create) to his advantage. These pitchers are just pissed that a rookie is pissing them off which makes them even madder. Kind of funny if you ask me. Cole was probably extra mad last night because he gave up a shit ton of runs to the Mariners in both starts last year

Hey Bob, you know, you make a great case for why they shouldn't mess with the game just educate the fans--- and yes, I understand that's too much to ask for, so thanks Jomboy, for doing the job in entertaining fashion. When I was a kid, I listened to the audiotapes (yes, cassette tapes) of George Will's _Men At Work_ profiling four characters from the pre-steroid era: Tony Larussa, Tony Gwinn, Orel Hershiser, and Cal Ripken, Jr. The book goes into the psychology and strategy of the game from the players perspective like nothing else I ever came across. Completely changed my perception and appreciation for the game. The irony is that Larussa's clinical approach to the game created (or forced) the modern highly "scientific" game that is less entertaining--- per my preference at any rate (of course, my favorite team of all time is the 1992 Milwaukee Brewers who won 92 games despite hitting only 82 homers in 162 games and were edged out by eventual world champion Toronto for the pennant in the old AL East. Phil Garner had that whole team running. To the tune of 256 stolen bases.) But there is still plenty of room for mind games, as Jomboy showcases here. Kudos to you.

This is one of my favorite breakdowns in a while. It kicks off with Jimmy's elite pronunciation of Caballero then smoothly transitions to the cleanest bat flip turned bat twirl I've ever seen. Then we go from the typical pitcher vs batter timing antics to a fastball thrown 5 feet over the batters head and it finishes with an all time wag off and Cole giving just the funniest face to Servis. Icing on the cake was Cole in the post game going "gotta change eye levels" with 21 Savage playing in the background. Edit: Yes, I am aware I did a breakdown of a breakdown. This one was so good it deserved it

Fun to watch in this context, but this kind of stuff makes games take frickin forever lol MLB is making so many changes for good reason. People just don't watch baseball very much anymore, and a lot of it is because from the average spectator's point of view who wants to witness physical sport, they are met with mind games that are borderline unsportsmanlike on top of extending the length of a game needlessly.

Some additional info... Caballero did this against the White Sox and took a staggering 84 seconds between pitches. I'm a Mariners fan, but today I am a Gerrit Cole fan. 21 Savage's "Jimmy Cooks" in the background when he is doing his interview is the cherry on top lmao.

This one made me laugh. I'm an Orioles fan and even I got annoyed by the batter. I can't fault Cole much for this one. Roger Clemens or Nolan Ryan probably would have threw right at this guy's shoulder or head so Garrett Cole actually restrained himself pretty well, in my opinion.

Why Cabbellero is batting in the nine-hole only God and Scott Servais know. He's got the highest on-base percentage on the team, one of the best OPSs, is good on defense, and has serious speed. Oh, and his WAR is third best on the team, if you're not counting pitchers. It's just crazy he keeps batting 9th, and some games he doesn't even play.
@marksommers4179

@@Vendrix86 It's pretty clear at this point that batting average is a bad metric. His on-base percentage is the best on the team. And when he gets on he steals. Among non-pitchers, he has the third best WAR on the team, which is even more notable given that he's only playing part time. With stats like that, batting ninth doesn't mean he's a sub-par player. It means management can't understand his contribution, relative to the other players in the order. And outdated relics like batting average may be partly responsible.
@user-nu1wp4pw9o

@@marksommers4179 His age and his spot in the batting order are irrelevant. What matters is his performance relative to the other players in the lineup. He has the best on-base percentage on the team. Third highest OPS. Third best WAR on the team (if not counting pitchers). And he steals a lot. Unless you provide an argument, there's not much more I can do than list stats. Feel free to provide one, though.

@@user-nu1wp4pw9o lol you say batting avg is a bad metric then bust out WAR which is unreliable and highly subjective? You also say management doesn't understand him...and you do?
