I remember seeing this around 1987! I can't believe it's been that long. I remember he became the first Asian artist to appear on B.E.T.'s top20 video countdown and the video was dope for that time. He could sing and dance like an Asian Jackson lol. I still watch his video in 2020. Hope he is doing fine his record company didn't know how to promote him properly back in 1987-1988. Today there is BTS, Kpop, and Jpop. He was ahead of his time. I think the album was called "Listen to my heart" 1988. You can find the video on KZbin.

The thing is, unlike kpop jpop artists, he is American that happens to be on Asian descent. It has always been hard for people of his background because its not like he is from the motherland either. This puts artists like him in an awkward position where it’s hard to be successful in both the US and his ancestral land. Also, it makes little sense for someone like him to “return” to his country when he was born and raised in the US. If your grandparents were German, I don’t think anyone would tell that person to go back go their country. The industry now is pretty amazing in that sense in my opinion. Artists from around the world get recognition and have played in sold out concerts outside of their home country!

Another great artist lost to time. I was a fan of this young man's music back in the 80's and I still love his music to this day. Sad to see he came and went.

@@無名兄弟-i7m Gerry Woo has two albums so far. The first and best is GERRY WOO: LISTEN TO MY HEARTBEAT which came out in the late 1980's. I remember seeing copies in the used record store for like a dollar. Search on Ebay or Amazon and the record is now like 50 bucks. Really fantastic '80's R&B/SOUL music. Woo changed his name to Harlemm Lee and won the (2003)FAME t.v. show contest and put out another CD. Rather than having cool R&B dance/pop music on the album, Lee filled the CD with the standards/covers that he sang on the show which meant poor record sales. Then, again, his record label buried him and abandoned him.

Last I heard, Woo was working an office job and singing in small bars and cafes. He should have been super-huge but lame and racist record label execs didn't promote his career. Blinded by racism, they didn't get or want to see how many millions of dollars that they could have made with a super talented Asian kid singing awesome R&B/dance records. Ironically, one year after Gerry Woo, we'd get New Kids On The Block tearing up the charts.

This was the late 1980's. Everyone was doing dance videos and dancing in their performances, even if they couldn't dance well or it made them look goofy. (Whitney Houston anyone?...Cringe..Cringe...LOL..LOL..)Everyone was trying to ride the big wave of dance music and performance that Michael Jackson had tsunami-ed into effect back then.
