I have wanted to learn to sew for years now and finally decided it was time to buckle down and give it a try. I have learned so much from your book. I decided to make this dress as my first real attempt at making something, and these videos were so helpful. I learned so many new skills just from making this one dress, and although it isn't perfect, I am very proud of it and can't wait to wear it out!

Thanks for making these awesome videos! I recently received my book and I am excited to make this dress. Watching a video is helpful for someone who is "newish" to sewing. I especially like how you showed us how to do bias facing on the armholes and neckline in part 1.

My copy of your book has arrived and I'm looking forward to making all projects starting with this dress (more than likely I will make three). I know that you are busy but can you consider a tutorial around the Patio Dress neckline/collar?

Got my book in the mail yesterday and started cutting out the pattern for this dress last night. Could you please, please, please do a video on shirring the waist (how to shirr and, more importantly, how to now where to start and stop the shirring). Thanks!!
@GertiesWorld5 жыл бұрын
I sadly don't have a lot of free time for making more videos right now, but I know this is a hot request! There are a lot of videos on shirring (I have one from several years ago). The top of the shirring line is marked on the pattern. Continue shirring in a spiral pattern for about 4.5" and end the stitching by connecting it with your previous spiral. The rows should be 1/4" apart.

@@GertiesWorldThanks for the quick response. I must've missed the line on the pattern. I should probably look at things thoroughly before I jump in! :-)

Hi, just found you and I love your tutorials. Went to your web site to get the Jiffy Dresses but it was out of stock. Are more coming? Can you let me know when? Thank you!
@GertiesWorld4 жыл бұрын
Getting items restocked is delayed right now because of COV-19. You can buy Jiffy Dresses from any book retailer if you'd like it now. I know Amazon has it is stock.

Why not sew the pocket on before sewing up the sides of the dress?

How would you make a belt out of the same fabric? I think that would be nicer than one you buy. Any pattern for a belt? Thanks

Gertie, I love the ease of the dress. I do not want as much of my 72 year old cleavage to show or the "relaxed muscles" under my arms to be waving with every gesture. Could add ons or redo's cover those figure flaws?
@GertiesWorld4 жыл бұрын
You can raise the neckline without too much trouble. A separate bolero might work for some arm coverage.

Don’t bother it’s a nightmare pattern pieces need to be traced onto your own paper and by the way if you watched part 1 she totally skips the four dress bottom panels she just SKIPPED HOW TO MAKE THE DRESS, all she made was a big longish bodice ughhhhh I hate this book!!!! I have the princes coat book It includes actual pattern pieces that you don’t have to trace onto your own tracing paper so I don’t know what happened with this popover dress she just completely blew it all off makes no sense
