I wish I had discovered your channel sooner and not wasted my time on KZbinrs with all their so-called tips and tricks. I recently took my test on December 17, 2022, less than a month before it. I was in panic mode and found myself helplessly watching videos about test-day tips with all their steps, structures, and templates. But I felt that none of them was really helping me ease my mind; it actually confused the heck out of me because everyone else said things otherwise. And then I came across one of your videos (IELTS Writing: Transform a Band 6 to a Band 8 Essay), and that was the game changer for me. I binge-watched the majority of your videos in the two weeks leading up to my exam day, particularly those on writing tests. I learned so much in that short span of time compared to the first few months of struggling to find something that made sense. With all that being said, all those sleepless nights and self-loathing, I got an overall band score of 8.0 (L8.5, R8.5, W7, S7) on my first attempt, and I'm quite happy with that. Who knows, maybe if I had found this channel sooner, I could've gotten a higher band, but that is a story for another time! I watched the writing tips videos in which Chris explains different graphs. He's made individual videos like the bar and the pie chart. Then I saw the reading tips videos and listening as well the speaking mock interviews. And then I practiced from the IELTS PDF set. I used to open the PDF play the mp3 file as per exam instructions. For reading, what helped me was splitting my screen in two portions. On the right hand were questions and on the left was the comprehension. I solved one paragraph at the time. Managed to finish both reading parts 15 minutes before exam time.

Sir it's must be a serendipity that I'm also grappling with my intermediate-level listening skill. Especially, with your analysis about tackling the multiple choice questions, you just pointed out exactly all of my lacking ranging from preparing before listening to during listening. Chris, two questions: one: Do we have time to check the answers in a computer test? (when I write quicky, I make misspellings) . And two: in the computer test, can I write on paper and then transfer them to the screen?

Hi Chris! Thanks a lot for this helpful video. The best thing which I like about your videos is that you are realistic about the test and honest about magic tricks. I totally agree with your advice to improve listening skills by Active listening. I was watched passively lots of podcasts, but my listening was at the same band 6. However when I started concentrate on the vocabulary and grammar, my scores have increased. I'll will take ielts in February and hope to get a band above 7:)
