Owning a fleet of aircooleds means you always have something to fix! Now that my fasty is painted and will be coming home soon, it reminds me of what needs to be done on the other three at home 😅

in the beetle, you should change or see if the front bushing is destroyed or misaligned, that would give you all the problems of getting into gear. the rear just connects the shift rod to the nose cone. i have that problem in my stepdad bug with a type 4 2.5l engine. could not find it in gear, thought i was in second, ended up in reverse

Hey guys, awesome cars! At 7:04 you guys need GL-4 gear oil, not GL-5! Also the problem with the leaking axle flange is unfortunately very common with older type transmissions. The only real solution is to replace the axle flanges with newer style swing axle flanges that have a lip for a rubber sealing ring around them. Basically you need to press out the bearing end of a never 67-> long axle to be able to slide out flange, then do the same on your pre67 short swing axle to have it mounted. End result of all this work though is owning a pair of short pre67 short axles with sealed ring flanges that do not leak, which is pretty cool!!

Corey needs to find a little trabant 600, that would be amazing to see the 700 cruise with another odd ball car

Not sure if you have or not, but there's a bushing around the shift rod that's located inside the tunnel. The only way to replace it is to remove the shifter, remove the shift rod out of the front and then you can access it from the hole for the shifter. The bushing and metal o clamp are a pain but help out so nice in the smoothness of the shifter. Just throwing that out there. That bushing gets over looked alot.

Theres two piece shifter bushings that doesnt require removing it completely that i can highly recomend

Love your air-cooled collection - just amazing patina and so cool to see your love for these old timers. I think I could smell that gear oil while you were working on the Beetle. 🤪

That Corvair is quite possibly the sexiest car Ive ever seen. What a work of genius.

Air cooled is so unique & I certainly appreciate the consistent uploads to keep us learning & entertained - you should be at 230K subs not 23K, but no doubt we'll see 230K subs someday.

I couldn't quite tell, but it looks like you put gl-5 gear oil in your transaxle. I believe they call for gl-4 which is rated as both transmission and dif fluid. Love the projects here!

The end of this is what it’s all about, sorting the cars out to cruise with the homies on hood weather days. Looking forward to the beetle giveaway!

Had one of those oil collectors that uses air to drain when i worked at toyota. No ball valve on the neck, so you had to raise the funnel all the way up to prevent the oil from blowing out everywhere. Well, one day, I forgot to raise the funnel up and you know.....😅

It looks like at the shifter you have the top plate over carpet. Try not putting carpet under that plate…maybe cut the carpet out. I saw recently where the carpet under plate doesn’t let shifter work correctly

What condition is the shift rod bushing in? The front one, not the rear? If that's bad it could be causing there to be a lot of play when selecting gears.
