I remember so well when Oasis of the Seas arrived in Florida for the first time in Nov 2009 and the feeling around the World's biggest cruise ship and Royal's brand new class was exactly the same!! A huge expectation from the public!! Even TODAY or GMA were on board and made live broadcasting and interviews while going around the ship and people were so amazed with the new ship's design and especially the Central Park which was almost unbelievable thinking to have literally a park with real trees and so many different plants on a ship! Now it's the turn for Icon of the Seas, definitely a new generation for the years to come!

It was risky when ordered by Royal to the shipyard in 2007, just before the financial crisis in 2008 but they kept their idea of creating a revolutionary class to the World and they made it! 6 Oasis ships in total with Utopia up coming this Summer 2024! Definitely a huge success in the industry.

I’ve been on symphony of the seas twice. It was a fun ship for long cruises, especially over seven days with sea days. But in recent years it feels like royal Caribbean packs the ship with too many people. so you end up with lines for attractions, food, the pool areas , “sold out” shows , an excursion days with too many people. To me the point of a cruise is to get away from the chaos, but with these bigger ships and packing more people in them, it can feel like a crowded shopping mall.. 😮‍💨

At first glance it looks pretty cool to see all these things that you would normally think would be on dry land but you know deep down (no pun intended) that it’s actually on water. At the end of the day though it does defeat the purpose of being on water.

From someone who’s been on a lot of cruises, 7k people on one ship is way too cramped for me. I go on cruises to lay back, relax and de-stress. Not to navigate big crowds

Book a cruise on a brand new Utopia of the Seas instead, which is to be finished in mid 2024. The ticket prices for Icon of The Seas are high as RCL needs to recoup the hyped up advertisement costs. Honestly, I prefer the Oasis class ships now that I had a closer look of the amenities and the type of shows offered. Nonetheless, Icon of The Seas is a beast to be reckon with:)

You don't have to get on a NEW ship as soon as it comes out, just like you don't have to buy that expensive iPhone as soon as it comes out. You have Odyssey of the Seas which is 2 years old, Harmony, Symphony. There are other ships. It's super exciting yes, when something new is introduced, but you can cruise your heart out on a ship that's 1 to maybe 3 years old and still very very nice 🙂.

I love how they always use that size comparison to a hundred year old ship in the Titanic. Even most small cruise ships today are quite a lot larger than the Titanic. No doubt this is a large (largest) cruise ship, but it's a kinda silly comparison.

I used to go into swimming pools & water parks. One day, at this community pool, some kid around 10, poop in the pool. There was a LOG floating around. After that, I have NEVER enter any public pools again. Yeah, I used to pee in the pools as well.

You should go on one. I've been on one and it is nice and doesn't feel crowded at all. Since this ship has more slides, the wait times will be less. Tip: Avoid the slides at noon, they get crowded then.

We were on Sovereign of The Seas for her 26th sailing in 1988. Captain was Tor Stangalang (I’m sure I butchered that!). It was a huge deal back then but nothing in comparison to this.

if you go onboard an oasis class ship and an icon class ship you will find that actually you won't really ntoice that massive of a size difference and since there is a lot mroe space but not as many people onboard compared to the max capacity of the oasis class ships and there being more activities and facilities you will not feel more or less crowded than on different size ships

What These ship liners need to do is create a ship this big, but have the capacity for only 4000 people and additional crew. With the extra space, add even more to do. This will make things less crowded, but still have plenty of paid on board to not feel deserted! I get it though, it’s all about packing as many people as you can and getting them dollars!

These new ships are great. The fact that at this point Titanic is still used as a measuring stick says alot about what it was to the world in 1912. It was also amazing for that time considering comercial aviation wasn't a thing yet. I haven't cruised in years so It will be cool to experience these. They will never be more famous than Titanic though unless one goes down. 10k people on one ship is crazy lol!

Only thing I would not do as I see, Is get a room on the inside where the noise never ends. No Privacy. I would rather have a room with no window/light than to have a room that is open to "central park" or other noise venues . Other than that I am ready to book and party!!!!! Great Job Royal!

Be prepared for long lines, sold-out shows, and getting up early to hold a spot for your family somewhere around the ship. Too much planning and reserving to really enjoy a trip. Been there done that. I prefer smaller ships.

I don't know why but this video gives me a bad feeling. Constantly talking up how big it is, or how it's the first to x, or world's biggest sculpture; but I wanna know the mechanics behind the ship's propulsion system and what redundancies are in place to keep that ship afloat. I hope my concerns age poorly and were unwarranted. Even the website keeps using buzz words like "Tallest, Largest, First, Recordbreaking, etc." I can't find a single post about safety. A company that prioritizes a fancy plaque or trophy over practicality and safety, no thank you.
