Omgoodness this worked really well in the F-4E. I dropped the mils to 50 and came at the targets around 400-450 and 3500' and got a hit.

I had no idea you can "active pause" the sim and use it to determine impact! GENIUS!

04:20 "The way you fly is repeatable..." That is a theory I am stil trying to prove :) I think we are all guilty of blaming the devs at some point for our failures and occasionally we are even right. The active pause is a great technique and I am glad you are showcasing it as it is a super useful check. I also like to use the "aim off" method rather than trying to release at a specific height but that a whole other video. In the end, unguided munitions with fixed sights is notoriously difficult that even the pro's can mess up. Moving on from the range to live targets shooting back at you takes it to another level as well. That is what makes trying to hit targets with the F5 using unguided bombs so much fun and challenging.

Agreed. I also found that getting better with the F-5 made me better with the more modern jets too.

@@TheOpsCenterByMikeSolyom Oh certainly. When you apply good fundamentals learned in something like an F-5 to a CCIP equipped aircraft its liike butter on bread :)

What you said at the end reminds me of a quote from finance blogger Mr Money Mustache: "to achieve greatness you must first admit that you suck" 😂 That is a golden tip on sight zeroing your sight with active pause!

You have to use f-5 mission planning, calculating the AOA and apply those values on mil dep tbl from weapon deliver, those values on mil dep tbl DOES NOT sit on mil dep sight directly IRL, hence if u does calculate correctly it will work on DCS, there is a good thread on forum regarding weapon delivery mil sight calc

You're absolutely right. In fact, I go over all of that in the playlist linked in the description. Here's a brief overview of it: 1. That chart I showed is the depression from the flight path. 2. The flight path is your Angle of Attack from the "Zero Sight Line" which is roughly on the aircraft bore line. 3. For the dive I was using in the video that AoA is about 4 degrees or ~70 mils of depression. So in that example you would add 70 to the 109 number I showed to get 179 total. Now doing the math for my lower 3000 foot release I would only need 25 mils according to the manual, and 88 for depression under the flight path. That would take me to 113 mils in real life, which I can tell you won't work in DCS. That was one of the reasons behind making this video. To help people get on target. Hopefully that helped explain why.

@@TheOpsCenterByMikeSolyom Thats right, it changed again! there is a problem for almost 3 years on Hornet CCIP delivery, it might have something related to Weather Temp OR the new Dynamic Weather model which is in progress, back to 2 years ago it was not that bad! now is terrible and no way match with weapon charts, I gave it a try for at least 10 times with 1 Config, Clean F-5 with only 2 Mk-82 on outer pylon, all parameters including Start Alt, Release Alt, Start Speed, Release Speed, AOA, Dive Angel in exact calculated values, but it was falling too short! I came to DCS back to 2016 just because of F-5 and it always give me really hard time on A/G weapon delivery , the Active Pause trick can really help, appreciate it

I can confirm this behavior. Before Christmas (2021) I started to prepare a video about the bombing with the L-39 where I started with the 20° dive. At February I came back to video making, I realized that all the tables I made (even for wind corrections) are useless and e.g. the 20° dive is not even worth to try, because even very small deviation (+-0,1G , +-2°, +-20km/h) from the parameters caused 50-60m deviation. I tried the method described above (active pause) before, and yeah.... the the ballistics of the FAB bombs has been changed too and they are more draggy and more sensitive for shallow angles. This situation is even worse when you drop the temperature in the ME and the air is more dense or add a wind into the mission.

Good to know. I never got around to testing FABs. But they definitely look draggier than US Mk80 series bombs.
@rogarsim
@rogarsim 2 жыл бұрын
@@TheOpsCenterByMikeSolyom yes, but they have a less draggy M62 version too (it's in the DCS, but the ballistics are same as for the normal one - at least for now) BTW...The release parameters for the L-39 Albatros are different e.g. for 30° dive the release is at 300kts / 2600ft / 196mils (Yes, you need to move up the seat)

how are you supposed to do this while taking AAA fire? If nothing else, straight consistent lines while rolling in means an easy target for AAA, flying wildly to avoid fire means missing... please help
@Name-ps9fx
@Name-ps9fx Жыл бұрын
Fly mildly wild... it's called "jinking", slight up/down/left/right, _just enough_ to avoid the stream of tracers coming at you. Remember, if they miss by a few feet, that's the same as missing by a mile, but has much less effect on the bomb run.

Are you planning on doing any basic tutorials on guided munitions deployment or are they basically the same as well? Is that even something you can cover here?
@TheOpsCenterByMikeSolyom
@TheOpsCenterByMikeSolyom 2 жыл бұрын
That is actually something I plan on going over later. There's a more advanced course on surface attack that I'd like to cover and in that we'll definitely go over some use cases for the GBU-12 in the F-5. There are some ways you can mess up a drop with laser guided bombs (even on aircraft with computer assistance). So I thought it would be good to show how you can nail it every time. In the far future I would like to do some more in depth videos on the F-16, and for that I can go over the other types of guided munitions.
