So, I’ve noticed some people talking about the amp, and the compression settings. I’ve played guitar for a long time, so I think I can shed some light on things. The sound they’re going for is super heavy compression. The reason they want to get away from an amp, is because amps tend to have a really soft compression, or at least a soft knee compression, that morphs into distortion. The compression they’re using is something really hard and fast. If it was a guitar pedal, it would probably be the MXR Dynacomp, which is known that that smacky, poppy sound you hear. Any hard knee compression should work great. For everyone complaining about how they use an amp plugin: On Waves GTR, which is what he’s using there, the “Direct” setting is “no amp”, meaning “Direct in”. Which means that any sound he’s getting out of that plugin is from the cab (speaker) emulation. The other setting, for Punchy, is still very clean. And, as you can probably tell from the name, it’s based off an amp that accentuates the punchy, snappy compression tone they’re after. Specifically, it’s based on a 100 watt Marshall amp, with the gain down low so you don’t get that soft knee compression I was talking about. The fact that they’re running the compression BEFORE the amp means that they get the compression character they want, and the amp is either only giving them a cab emulation for a bit more character, or some light saturation from the punchy amp for a bit more character. This is very different from the traditional guitar setup, where the guitar is run into a slightly dirty amp to get some light compression and distortion there, and then the engineer adds some light compression during the mixing stage. That sound (and you can hear this on really any rock record every) is smoother and bigger and much, much less snappy sounding. Basically, guitarists haven’t been trained to hear compression, so when they use it, they go way overboard lol

Stating same as Prince is wild because Prince played Tele's almost 90% of his career for rhythm guitar. His Hohner MadCat specifically, so claiming "same as Prince" is wild.
