I'm running LineageOS on my Galaxy S7 for over one and a half years now and I could't be happier, F-Droid is soo much better than the playstore. One of the best things of F-Droid is that it does not use root unlike the playstore. If you install an app on the google playstore you press the install button in the app itself and let the playstore handle everything, including giving privileges to the app you install, while package installer handles the entire install for f-droid, no root required. And of course you get actually good apps on f-droid, unlike playstore, for the most part at least.

Speaking of spooky I was ranting to myself after trying to download F droid and having googles play protect come up with about 3 separate warnings and blockers only to have my grandfathers google thing start talking at me from his room, its getting insane

Firstly, if the hardware is spying on you then software may be useless. Secondly, roll your own (learn), grapheneos (best), lineageos (good) as operating system. Next, use non playstore repositories for privacy-focused apps. Doesn't stop you from having something for certain types of access, which leads me to last point... compartmentalise your approach to blend in whilst being secure/private... simples.

I'd recommend also looking into Disable Service 1.6.5 by WangQi. It allows for disabling services running within the apps themselves. It was removed from the Google Play Store last year and the alternatives that exist don't seem capable of doing the same type of thing, but this app can still be found elsewhere and it even seems to work with Android 10 despite not having been updated in years.

Do you have a link to it? Android is at least as backwards compatible if not more as Windows because they keep the old APIs around in new versions. If they deprecate an API, apps with a higher SDK level won't be able to use it but it's still there for older apps. They did hit some bumps when they transistioned from the Dalvik JVM to ART which is understandable since that's like switching from Linux to a BSD kernel.

Anyway, it can found on multiple places such as APK Mirror: www.apkmirror.com/apk/wangqi/disable-service/disable-service-1-6-5-release/disable-service-1-6-5-android-apk-download/ It seems to still work as of 2021 on rooted Android with Android 10 being the last one I tested.

the most scary thing is how hard is living without google on your phone. I got a xiaomi phone with lineage os, but i can't live without the play store, mainly because i bought some games there and think that it would be a waste of money to not use them. and the other scary thing is that face unlock (at least for my phone) does not work without some google shit, that i choose to not install. Google really glows in the dark

if you need propriatary APKs use the Aurora Store. Its on f droid and lets you download and update any free google play apks

If YT/Google is testing you by not allowing you to DISlike a video, just flip them the finger by removing the likes and dislikes from ALL of your videos. Go to this page, select the 3 dots in the upper right hand corner and then select delete: myactivity.google.com/page?hl=en&page=youtube_likes By doing this, you are messing with their algorithm and their ad revenue stats.

There is no single good pdf reader. The trend opensource pdf readers have is "Annotations are for bitches" and that is extremely frustrating to no end. Around 8 apps with various features like printing but want to annotate? Too bad. Makes it useless to students.
