I had a teacher like that too Vincent his name was Christy and he was a school Chaplin in Douglas. You couldn't meet a more encouraging man. I remember one day at exam time he pointed at a bus driving past the school and asked the class, do you think that man driving that bi's got top marks in his leaving cert. Then he said this. But there he is earning a living and happy. It's not all about exam results lads it's your personality and drive that will get you where you want to go. I did well in life and it was his words that inspired me. He was a good man

He sounds like a good man and a wise man. I'm a revenue protection officer on the trains. I'm the man that gives you a fine if you don't have a ticket. Some times I'd meet a group of passengers that i might like and I'd say to them.... when i was a little boy my mother asked me one day son what do you want to be when you grow up? Do you want to be a doctor? A fireman? And i said to my mam when i grow up i want to check tickets on the train. I'm living the dream. That always gets a good laugh😂😂😂😂😂 it's all about being happy. I'm sure the driver of the bus was whistling as his wheels went round and round😂😂😂😂😂 Thanks for the great comment. Cheers.

Great day out by the look of it and nice to see a few fish getting caught! I only wish Salmon fishing was like mackerel sometimes. Just once, it would be nice to have it easy! Just once! At least you're having fun out and about. That's what it's all about. Absolutely fantastic story about your teacher.😂 A proper diamond in the rough!

Always great to hear from my friend salmon ninja. The salmon fishing is getting worse each year. Plus the mackerel fishing is getting worse each year. We will all end up catching rainbows using barbless hooks with red green purple orange tagging systems in place. 😂😂😂😂😂 the good old days are truly gone at least i still have my memories pulling out the salmon one after the other. Best of luck with the rest of your season my friend.

Vincent, first I thought you were in Cherbourg, France. That's where always many anglers try their luck off piers and quays. Otherwise I've never seen that many anglers in Ireland, ever, anywhere. But that shows what great fascination is in throwning something into the water in the hope some fish might grab it. Great stuff again, Vincent, greetings from Donegal, Dietrich.

You sound like you were bored in school too.😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂 what story did you have if you caught a fish and brought it home. "Oh mam the science teacher in school had this fish in a tank of water and did a test to see how long it would live out of water. Its perfect to eat she gave it to me to eat nobody else wanted it and out with the frying pan". 😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😮 wonder would that have raised suspicion? I used cook mine over a fire on the river Bank. Lovely they were. Fit for a king. Thanks for the great comment.😂😂😂

@@Vincentdonnelly5158No disrespect to your Mum , but it sounds as if she was somewhat gullible. Either that, or the opposite - she was 'cute' (as they sometimes say in Ireland, as, of course, you know; meaning 'cunning' or 'wily') - a lot cuter, probably, than she was letting on!

It's years since i dug any lug or rag worms. I always found fountainstown town beach very good. Going up the estuary. When the train leaves cork going to cobh when it leaves glounthaune it goes over a very small bridge you would hardly see it but the second bridge is a very big green bridge it brings you into fota wild life park. Well on the little island said on low tide there are two big electric poles together. You can't miss them on low tide digging all around the poles used be brilliant for King rag these rag if there still there are two feet long with huge pitchers. Don't know if its still good. Best of luck.

Mackerel snapper was once a sectarian slur for Catholics, originating in the United States in the 1850s. It referred to the Catholic discipline of Friday abstinence from red meat and poultry, for which fish was substituted.

Over a lifetime of fishing I've met every type of angler along the river Bank or pier at this stage in my life i don't watch what others are doing. Just try to keep my head down with brown tags no barbs single hooks it's all turned into a circus. Have to say the lads on the pier were so so friendly and lovely it was a pleasure fishing with them. Really had a great time. A great time. Thanks dmp watching and commenting cheers.

Hard to imagine how things change and how fickle life can be. As a policeman with over 30 years service I always lived by the maxim. ‘ Live & let live”. Imagine a child of eight made a refugee in his own country by programs initiated by folks who should have been so great full to have got the choice pick of the best land, jobs and everything over the natives and still they haven’t coped on up there that it’s all about integrating with their neighbours. By contrast on the pier in Ballycotton you interviewed the ‘new Irish’ and though not in Ireland a wet year they speak with a Cork accent and are mucking in with everyone, no animosity towards them regardless of colour or creed. But fair play to you Vince and to your parents and teachers, despite your dislike for rote learning and preference for the great outdoors in addition to the school of hard knocks, you turned out ok in the end. A renaissance man, a great career…once you got back on the tracks, a sought after collectible mysterious discreet artist who’s scarce output and ‘hidden in plain sight’ approach contrasts greatly with Banksy’s gorilla tactics ducking & diving in and out of the shadows. A consummate well balanced all round jolly good fellow, who has perfected the art of fly fishing and bush hygiene teaching your viewers about survival in the wild in one with nature in an eco friendly way that proves you don’t have to be ripped like Bear Grills and that you can have your cake & eat it and partake of medicinal compounds of the spirited variety ‘for the chest’ and still have a good time and survive to perpetuate the fishy tales! It’s fair to say that Belfasts loss was Corks gain and it’s nice to see that there’s still a welcome for refugees and don’t worry about the fishes, they will and are adapting…soon you’ll be landing Tuna, so perhaps you should take a leaf from Bear Grills book and build up those arm…and chest mussels!

@@Vincentdonnelly5158 Every day myself & my fair ladies head to the beach at five and take the odd dip in the warming lukewarm Med or Atlantic depending on which side the wind blows on the Straits. Nights are a lot more humid this year with temps in the mid 20s at 12mn, sleep in snatches with the fan on and windows open using fly nets. All good despite daytime temps reaching the mid 30s we'll adapt but we could doo with rain this autumn.
