Getting intercom audio on your helmet action cam makes your riding videos much more entertaining to watch.
In this video I show how to achieve this with any action camera and any intercom system.

Hello Robert and thank you so much for your good explanation off the solution off hearing the other voice. In our last video riding with our granddaughters, I have one microphone at the speaker and use the Sena with side tone on. It worked, but hearing yourself talking is not an option. So this winter it will be time to puzzle all the wires in the helmet. Good job 👍🏻

Somehow I tripped upon this same idea when I was trying to set up my communication. Full wrap around helmets easy enough. The helmet that is either open face or opens up I came up with another idea. I came up with a gamer headset and unplugged the mike/extension from the headset and plugged in with a series of adapters from my y adapter inside the helmet. So you have three mics. The one that came with your sena and the one for your mic that goes over your earpiece. And the other mic to record your voice to your gopro. I routed it in the same recess most helmets give for the installation of your communication mic. Then I used epoxy to keep the gamer mic extension in place. So I could have my mike in front of my face. Not all Mics are the same. I had the cheap mic like you had and it had more of the natural sound coming in from my other riders. I thought going the best Amazon had to offer and the voice coming in sounded a little tine. So cheaper mic is better. Thanks mile marker mike

Great advices. If you dont want to have all those adapters and all that cable you can just buy the plugs, some shrink hose, cut the cables and solder it instead. There is a company near you in the town Skövde called Svebry that has all those things. Located near the road at the edge of town heading for Tibro and Karlsborg. Now, you may also consider to buy some ferrite cores and wrap some laps of your cable around it. This can help to prevent some unwanted noises from example your engine, spark plugs, electrical regulators and so on. Cheers from North Carolina PS. It would be great if you can show how to both have a mic plugged in and have the camera on charge at the same time.

Thank you for this video. I soldered stereo mic to my helmet so that on left channel is my intercom mic and on right channel is my pole mic. I used one pole mic left from Cardo for me and other Sena velcro mic near intercom speaker. Now it is easy to edit those mic levels from left to right. And also make those more mono and center if I like. Both mics are taking motorcycle sounds so the motorcycle sound is some kind of stereo sound in the middle. I'm using Insta360 X3 with 0dB or -6dB settings and it works fine. Still waiting to make videos with it. Back to summer tyres and waiting for ride again... I also made 3.5mm male +female extension cord if I use the camera on my handlebar RAM mount rather than on chin mount. I prefer the handle bar camera setting with X3. It is better for 360 video and X3 is so big for the chin. Tack så mycket och hälsningar från Finland.🇫🇮✌️ - KIITOS.

That's the 1st time I have seen it explained in an understandable format and display. No head up the ass explanations. Now I know how. Thanks as I had questioned you on how to do this before. Now if we can get the heads up on the fast tent setups and jumping on the bike flying by our buddy All Things Tenere will be happy. Snowball derby coming soon. All fun. Good video and instructions! Just FYI: TRS means Tip, Ring, Sleeve, meaning that the TRS has one ring and the TRRS (Tip, Ring, Ring, Sleeve) has two rings. Tip, ring(s) and sleeve always refer to the conductive metal bits of the plug, so don't count the plastic insulators because that makes it confusing 🙂

This way might be thte best way to get audio while you riding. I saw other videos connect through sena but their sounds weren't natural as it yours. They only have voice with studio level sound. It's good quality but It doesn't feel like I'm in their mood. In my opinion, Little bit of wind and ambient sound mixes well with voice is the best. that's the point people feel comfort.

I am annoyed with myself for not thinking about this solution! This summer we tried an iPhone headset connected to my partners iPhone and having just the mic part on the cheekpad. Using voice recorder on her phone to capture her audio then trying to sync to my GoPro video in post. Sound was awful and was just too messy to be useful. Going to get another purple panda mic and the splitter then try your way. Thanks for the video.

Yes, my 94 honda goldwing 1500 interstate has the plugin for 2 passenger intercom but that is for the bike I guess. I have no mic for it. Unless I take my cat for a ride in his basket, I don't need an intercom. My Drift camera works great with the external mic and I buried my cable under my helmet cushions too, just like yours.
