Over 100 million Germans speakers in Europe. At the center of the old continent and at the heart of its history. Classical music and Rammstein, engineering and philosophers, Rhine wine and beer. Lots to like.

As a Canadian now living in Germany and “trying” to learn the language this was good motivation. I am a person who always asks why (warum) and with the grammar it has held me back a little. But your statement the brain will figure it out is correct. I may not be able to get the words out of my mouth yet but I can now pick out an incorrect sentence or paragraph when reading or writing. I can also now think my statements, at least in my mind, more in German. I’m thinking the voice thing will eventually follow. So it’s all about patience.

When I was learning German, I also used to write a lot of text in German so that I could get a hang of the grammatical rules which are quite complicated in German.

@@Thelinguist Wow! Your wife should be really proud of you!!! Instead, my boyfriend never wanted to learn Cantonese because I can speak Portuguese like a native, so he thinks that it's not necessary for him to learn the language. Well, really proud of you, Steve!

if you are talking about WHY to learn a language (any one for that matter) - I like to think of a blank map, whe all the states are just white and only those whose language you kow are in colour, for me it´s how big the world is you want to live in. Yes, english now (as was french before and say latin before that) could help you to communicate - but - communication does not mean to live in that world. I come from a small country and I get that question all the time - to the point where it kinda gets really annoying... and I´m surprized how many people just don´t seem to get it. anyway guys - nice content thx

Deutsch ist mehr als ein schöne Sprache, Deutsch ist eine der bedeutendste Sprachen in europäischen Geschichte und es zu beherrschen erlaubt man Europäische Denken zu verstehen. Hegel und Heidegger, sie kümmerten sich für den Geist der Welt, und diese Sorge für was wesentlich ist gibt man ein Bild für was Ewigkeit bedeutet. Ich begrüße ihnen und werde Lingq immer empfehlen!

You should consider doing a video with Aleksi Himself, a Finnish version of the German KZbinr's channel. You once mentioned that we don't forget languages we've learned when learning new ones even though it's actually completely possible the more time goes on without revisiting certain languages. Look at Hebrew - you kind of dabbled in it before abandoning it in favor of Arabic and Persian, contrary to what you said in the previous video about "staying with it". Same with Greek and Serbo-Croatian - learned them specifically for travel, then immediately changed to Arabic and Persian, it's good to stay with languages for some time, but not forever coming from a polyglot like yourself. Now you doing a video with a native German in English...calls your ability to speak German into question, and other languages. The pitiful consequence of leaving past languages that you've left for so long.

Hey Steve! I saw your interview with Dan with whom you talked about learning Japanese and Russian. You said that his English is impressive in the way he uses the words and build his sentences. If you'd compare his "skill" or ablity to speak English, who is performing better? Or sounds better, more natural?

Claiming to speak 20 languages but admitting to not being able to speak them on demand basically proves you're a fraud. Maybe you can understand 20 language to some degree when reading or listening, but if you can't actually speak them on the spot, you can't say in good consciousness that you "speak" them. Uttering 10 words doesn't really count, no matter how good your syntax and grammar.
