Give props to Walter..... the guy had been trapped for God knows how long and just accepted it and stopped fighting Roman..... then when he’s finally freed (temporarily) he’s not scared shitless like Andre was but calm, collected and cunning enough to trick Rose into giving him the gun to shoot her and then kill himself to kill Roman..... he’s obviously been plotting revenge in there for a long time ..... glad he got it 😊

She heard through the headphones - she was pretending to be the 911 operator, and heard through the call. He didn’t recognize that yet the audience could see via the shot to her faking to be the cop. They cut the lines to trap Black people there until they could steal their bodies. It’s layers of complex insidious envy evil and it’s an amazing proximity for the intentional well thought out cruelty of white supremacy via authority

It was also because his mother died in a hit and run, and seeing her unconscious behind his car reminded him of how she died. So either way, whether or not he was thinking about Rose's grandmother lving in her head or he innocent person trapped in there with her; he wasn't just going to leave her there, the guilt would be too much. If you look again, at that specific moment, they cut to that image of Chris watching TV when he was a kid, the same image that appeared during the hypnotherapy scene when he described that trauma to Rose's mum.

@@syafiqjabar They're also infamous for racial profiling post-9/11, needless to say. On the other hand, as 42% of TSA officers are POC vs. 33% of police officers, it's a much more diverse institution. And this is anecdotal, I remember people saying racialized TSA agents were pulled out of view immediately after 9/11 so it would be only white officers visible at security. So, it might be a joke on Peele's part -- kind of a lighthearted B plot about the non-heroic cousin of the CIA and FBI -- but nevertheless, the TSA is simultaneously rife with institutional racism and a relatively safe, stable place to work *for* racialized people. Maybe it does reflect some of the themes of the film.

There was an alternate ending where actual police show up and arrest chris, but it certainly isn't satisfying and, in my opinion, almost ruins the film.
@bg5469
@bg5469 3 жыл бұрын
both endings they shot (this and one where chris is arrested and implied to either be imprisoned for the rest of his life or put to death) are bittersweet for different reasons and both end with chris in a cage of some sort, physically or otherwise. i don’t think either are quite as neat as real life. that being said, all things being equal, the last 10 minutes are an amazingly cathartic crescendo to the story. it may not be quite this brutal or quite this sudden but we’ve all (most anyway) fantasized about taking revenge against the enemies of equality and human decency. this ending is a perfect end to chris and rose’s character arcs.

Also, the Grandma seems to want to strangle Chris, as she’s reaching toward him, but she only manages to hit his arms over and over. This seems to indicate that the real Georgina was fighting to the end, trying to stop the grandma from hurting Chris, but sadly it wasn’t enough to stop the car from crashing.

Rewatching this scene; when Chris puts his hands up it’s an act of surrendering… but as he stands over his opponent and realizes that his friend is there to end the situation; the putting up of the hands is almost empowering… like a fighter when he realizes he won and puts his hands up in victory.

Was genuinely expecting this film to have the cliché "cops arrest the protagonist and don't believe the story" deal. The typical modern horror movie trope of a bad ending.
