IN ANY CITY WITH RENT REGULATION TENANTS CAN USUALLY GET BUYOUTS. MY FORMER LANDLORD PAID TENANTS TO MOVER FROM ONE BUILDING TO ANOTER IN THE 3 BUILDING COMPLEX. People that answer the door in next to nothing think they're being super bad ass so the person knocking will go away-- not realizing it's a great way to go on the sex offender registry if the wrong person is on the other side of that door. Being in your own home doesn't matter; people have been reported and put on the registry for indecent exposure because someone looked in their window and saw something.

She's the type of person to research a reason to sue someone, just to be petty. The abuse of "right of re-entry" law to prevent landlords from entering a dwelling with NO notice. To prevent them from entering while you are not home or while you are just sitting there eating dinner. The Plaintiff had notice and is upset they walked up ONTO HER PORCH?!? She considered that "significant harrassment"?!? The Plaintiff is the reason Courts are so clogged with frivelous cases. "Waaaah, he gave me notice and walked onto MY PORCH". Even if they did enter, that wouldn't have constitited SIGNIFICANT harrassment. The Plaintiff needs to GET A LIFE. There are people with REAL landlord/tenant problems and she's already getting 10k(for nothing!).

California law isn't "no notice", it's "no reasonable notice", which is defined as at least 24 hours. The plaintiff is still in the wrong though because she agreed to the shorter notice she was given.

The gate is not locked and there are no trespassing signs posted, anyone can walk up and knock on her front door. There is an implied consent to having people knock on your door during regular normal hours.

The 10k is not a grift, it's a law in CA that if you evict someone because the building isn't under the right code for renting or you decide you want to move into it yourself or give to your kids to live in that you have to pay them to relocate.

I do understand the struggle of working nights and trying to get something fixed by maintenance. I use to beg my apartment office just to call first. They never did. Happened multiple times, maintenance would knock twice and let themselves in when I was asleep. But this lady is ridiculous. They didn’t come inside.

Absolutely. I lived in a basement apartment for 11 years and every time something would break down or we would have Plumbing problems, the landlord would say "They'll be there mid-week between 10 am and 1 pm." My husband and I worked days throughout the week. So, one of us would always have to take time off work to be there when the person showed up. Thank God we've moved from that place since then, but SERIOUSLY. I couldn't imagine being in your shoes and having people just knock and walk in. That's gross.

I live in California. JM always judges California in such a harsh way, however, everyone judges Florida in a harsh way as well. HOWEVER, California has the worst rental laws. Everything is for the tenant. Scares me to rent my house.

The inspector should know their are rules for entry in a rental situation. He can't insist if it causes someone else to break the law for entry notice, The landlord should have said I need to give my tenant notice.

I know exactly how she feels. I live in SW Ontario in Canada. Our tenant law is a minimum 24 hour notice in writing put under the door or attached to the outside of the door of the apartment (unless for an emergency) before entry. One day, I was woken by the sound of voices in my apartment. Bit scary as I live alone. The super and the building manager were in my apartment without prior notice. It wasn't the first time, either.

I used to live in an apt building that was once a single family home. So it's possible to go the other way too I guess.

It was a single family house that was turned into apartments against code so the inspectors were there after it became aware of the change. Now they have to get rid of the tenants.

Maybe it was a single family home that they're renting rooms in and calling apartments instead of rooms? It doesn't look like a very large building, I wouldn't be shocked if they threw up some partition walls in shared spaces and called them hallways, have shared bathrooms, etc.

1:45 She's a crackpot! Written notice is not a real thing. I own property and I don't have to give a written notice that I am coming by to inspect the property. You have to give a 24-hour notice via phone, but it doesn't have to be written. True with my tenants I would normally send a text 24 hours before I came by, but normally would be a phone call.

What I was going to say? For several reasons: - she just stands there letting all this happing to her and she doesn´t even react - as the Judge told her, the plaintiff and the other tenant are supposed to get 20,000 total because they´re asked to relocate and she´s just fine. Spent whatever you have to in a lawyer to figure that out. ...did I hear right? She bought the building so that her son was the one to become a landlord?
