Get Ready For Takeoff: Fly App Update 1.13.8 Builds Excitement for the DJI Mini 2!

Are you ready for a DJI Mini 2 fly app update? Me too! I was originally excited for this fly app update for the DJI Mini 4 Pro, but when I immediately had problems downloading it (or finding it for that matter) my excitement quickly moved to the DJI Mini 2. Yes, I am easily distracted...
Anyway, I tried and tried and tried to search for the new fly app update on the Mini 4 Pro's RC2 controller but every time I searched, it came up saying "your firmware is up to date". I was really confused as to why but then I learned it could have been the servers were too busy to find it or maybe the update wasn't even available at all for the USA... Not surprised there.
I then searched for the fly app update in the App Store and suddenly there it was. Staring me right in the face. DJI Fly App Update 1.13.8!!!
So, in today's video we decided to make it strictly a DJI Mini 2 video and just do a test flight with Rose (our DJI Mini 2). For some reason I've been referring to her as a DJI Mini 2 Pro because with the release of the Mini 4K and the older Mini 2se, I figured the original Mini 2 could easily be seen as the original pro, right?
OK enough yapping. Let's get on with the video and see how Rose deals with the newest DJI Fly App Update 1.13.8.

Hahaha. Yea this one was full of unnecessary excitement. Those bugs were horrible! I did chat with Nobby when I got home and we determined I was actually doing things right for once. lol The update just wasn’t popping up for me for some reason. Apparently I wasn’t the only one so there’s comfort in knowing I wasn’t the only one suffering. Haha. I did get the 1.13.9 updated on the Mini 4 though so I’m hoping to test it out Wednesday.

lol yea man those bugs were pretty relentless. I guess that’s what happens when I don’t follow my own advice of always having bug spray. lol. I really do appreciate your suggestion of needing a change, man. Honesty is priceless. :) I just updated the Mini 4 to the 1.13.9 with no problems so once I get out to fly and test it, I’ll follow your advice.Thanks, Ron!

lol all I can say is I needed that bug spray bad. I’m glad they weren’t those biting noseeums so at least there’s that, right? Kristi needed a break by the way. Hahaha. lol yea as soon as Nobby and I figured out the 1.13.8 update wasn’t available for my rc2 (unknown reasons) then next day I rechecked and the 1.13.9 showed up. I got that update all squared away and once I get out to fly I’m gonna test it out. Let’s hope it didn’t make the drone a brick. Haha

Hey dude. Don't feel bad - I am also very tremulous about doing RC2 / M4P updates. Seems like there are several traps we can fall into around that that end up in bricked machines if we are not careful. Would be very grateful if you could relay exactly what Sir Nobby tells you, and then maybe we won't brick ours like Shaun the Drone did to his last night ! :) Cheers buddy...AeroJ .

lol yea there’s always that chance that this update could be the one, eh? I called Nobby when I got back and surprisingly we determined I was looking for the update the right way, BUT the update just wasn’t there. I guess there were several people on his channel saying the same thing so I wasn’t alone. I did get the 1.13.9 update for the Mini 4 pro so I’m hoping to go test it out on Wednesday when I’m off. I guess I need to go watch Shaun’s video on that. He had so many come out in a couple days I must’ve missed one.

Sweet! Nobby and I quickly determined the 1.13.8 update wasn’t showing up for the mini 4 and rc2 controller and then magically the next day I checked and the 1.13.9 was there. lol. lol When I was talking to Nobby on the phone we quickly realized I was doing everything right for once (shocker!) but the 1.13.8 update just wasn’t showing up for me. Apparently there were several from the US with the same problem. I noticed the 1.13.9 came out though and had no problems updating to that one on the mini 4 pro. I’m hoping to test it out Wednesday when I’m off so we’ll see how it plays out. We use iPhones for our Mini 2 drones so the 1.13.9 isn’t out yet for those. Boooo! I’m sure it’ll be out soon though.

When flying my drone I encountered insects, drone props chopped them up and splattered on the drone. Birds always make me nervous. Have you been seeing all the KZbin posts on the DJI banned?

lol that’s hilarious. All of our drones have big guts all over them. Actually Jack has a mark on his forehead just above the gimbal. That’s how I mainly tell the mini 2 drones apart. Haha. Oh, and yea birds can be total jerks. They’re like an old buddy I had in high school. Always ready for a fight and they’ll even fight girls (Rose). lol. Anyway, yea I’ve seen a bunch of videos about the ban and it seems like everyone is in the same mode of making predictions. My feeling is it’s gonna pass but it’ll take a long time to be finalized so I’m just gonna enjoy the drones while we can and cross that bridge when we get to it. The good news is the DJI drones we currently have or purchase before the ban are supposed to be ok to continue flying. I’m not sure how these drones we already have would be any less a risk to national security than ones they sell after the ban. I’d think of the threat was as serious as they allege, they’d want all DJI drones banned whether we already purchased them or not. It’s all a conspiracy theory. lol.

No one's paying attention to remote ID

Last I heard you don’t need RID on a mini drone under 250grams. With all the restrictions nowadays, why would you put something on your drone that's not required by law??

lol there’s more people paying attention to remote id than you’d think. I know a lot of people are ignoring it for sure, too though. I figure I’d rather comply and not take the chance if I can afford to do it. Anyway, the reason I have a RID module on the Mini 2 is because it’s required for any drones that are required to be registered with the FAA. I know it’s below the 250 gram mark, but I have them registered due to being part 107 certified and I fly them for KZbin which is monetized. It’s considered commercial use now so in order to be in compliance, I have to have remote ID on all my registered drones. Hope this helps! Thanks for watching and commenting, guys. God bless.

Hahahaha. Dodge fan, eh? It’s ok. I won’t hold that against you. lol. It’s hilarious you mentioned this because I have an update regarding that. So, when I had the repair done, they originally thought it would have been covered under the extended warranty. Oh the truck is a 2020 so the 3 year warranty is past. Booo. Anyway, apparently with the extended warranty there’s a $100 deductible. I agree, that’s ridiculous. Anyway, just last week that Ford dealership called me and said they shouldn’t have charged the deductible because the repair ended up being covered under the original emissions warranty. They refunded me the $100 and all is square now. Reminder, we’re back in Florida and this dealership is in WV. I called my parents and told them what the dealership did and mom took them some donuts as a thank you. lol. I swear, there’s no way the dealerships down here would’ve ever refunded anything. I’m hoping it doesn’t fully pass but it’ll take some time to see exactly how it works out. For now I’m not really concerning myself with it but if it is to go through, I’ll do what Buckmanbuck says. At least our current DJI drones should be ok to continue flying. I’m not sure about the maintenance and repair process though. Maybe just fly them till they break. lol
