The Glenn Miller Orchestra were one of the most popular bands of the big band era. He was responsible for all that great swing music before all the other artists in this compilation. It was only fitting that the medley should begin and end with his music. Hats off to whoever suggested this song. I never would have thought of it. Well done!

Jay & Amber, the opening song "In The Mood' by Glenn Miller and his Orchestra(1939). That was bandleader Glenn in the center with the trombone. Other great bandleaders of the era: Duke Ellington, Benny Goodman, Count Basie, Lionel Hampton and Tommy Dorsey. Duke - Piano, Benny - Clarinet, Count - Piano, Lionel - Xylophone, Tommy - Trombone.

I have this entire album, bought it years ago when it came out. LOVE it because it STARTS and ENDS with the music of the GREAT GLENN MILLER of the BIG BAND era of the 1940a. THIS is the music my Dad played as a musician, in several of those BIG BANDS during the mid to late '40s and into the "50s. He primarily played clarinet and sax in those orchestras. This is the music I heard when I was a child in the early '50s ( I was born in 1947) He also played Flute and Violin. He was an active musician until he was 98 years old He died at 102 in 2020. MISS you Dad and hearing you play.

When this was released all these "old" songs would be familiar to most people. Glen Miller ( trombonist ) is not 1950s though as he died in a plane crash during the war.
@LaptopLarry330
@LaptopLarry330 5 ай бұрын
Yes. Glenn Miller was performing in Europe entertaining Allied Forces at USO Shows during World War II. Miller’s plane went missing while flying over the English Channel in 1944. Either it was shot down by the Luftwaffe, or went down due to a mechanical malfunction. Some people in recent years have speculated that Glenn Miller was a sleeper agent for Nazi Germany, and that the plane was flown back to Germany upon the completion of his long-term mission.

The opening scene, with Glenn Miller and his Orchestra, is from the movie “Sun Valley Serenade” (1941). The man shown playing piano is actor John Payne, who also played lawyer Fred Gailey in the movie “Miracle on 34th Street” (1947). The woman being led to her table is three time Olympic Ice Skating Champion, Sonja Henie. It also starred Milton Berle. Oddly enough, I just watched that movie a couple weeks ago.

OH MY GOODNESS! I never thought I'd see Jive Bunny on the channel! This was the brainchild of Andy Pickles and Ian Morgan and they brought the concept of mashup to the mainstream. Here in the UK, this was number one for 6 weeks. I was a huge fan, bought all the singles and albums. You seem to have stumbled across one of the rarer versions using the original recordings. More common now are the versions that used impersonators in order to get round the copyright issues! The follow up was called That's What I Like 👌🏻

Great to hear this again. I don’t think many people realise just how significant the Big Band Sound was, especially the Glenn Miller Orchestra during the war, setting up popular music as we know it today. Moving on from the Blues, Jazz and Folk etc, and then into Sinatra and the Bobby Soxers, before Elvis and early Rock & Roll setting up the Beatles and on into modern Rock bands. Superb music, but very much of its time. Can you imagine what a 19th Century audience would make of this? They thought the composer and virtuoso pianist Franz Liszt was “out there”. I would love to go back in time and see their response to this; it could well be seen as the work of the devil. 🫢🤘

If I remember right, that song and ones like it started a resurgence of people learning to do that old style dancing.

There was lots of mastermix records in the 80's probably the first to start it off was Stars On 45, in 81 which was a Beatles medley, they also did an ABBA one

The Artists in this medley are Glenn Miller, Little Richard, Bill Haley and the Comets, Everly Brothers, Elvis Presley and Danny and the Juniors. This is from memory so I may have missed an artist

Yes that was Elvis physically but NOT vocally as that was some Brit putting on an abysmal Elvis impression...and there was the late great Eddie Cochran but sadly you didn't get to hear his wonderful unforgettable voice.

This medley is such a nice groove and one of the great things about it is you can play it for your kids, have lots of fun, and just enjoy life for those 5 minutes. Just check out their other medleys as well.

Love this one! My son was an AMAZING saxophone player (first band, first chair all state) in high school and “In the Mood” was his favorite. Plus my mom raised us on the big band music too. ❤

This was a mainstay at the skating rink when I was a kid! This one and the Grease Megamix. Brings back all the best memories! 🥰 (Most of the songs were 1950s but the Glen Miller stuff was ‘40s.)

Fun fact... Les Hemstock was the driving force behind the Jive bunny novelty act... and went on to produce some of the best trance tracks on the scene when it mas massive around the Millennium. Listening to this and then Hemstock and Jennings' Mirage of Hope back to back really shows the gap in output.

This takes me back to the eighties. This was a HUGE hit and the fashion at the time was very much rocka-billy influenced. Kids, both boys and girls, were wearing brothel creepers, turned up baggy jeans and leather jackets if they were in our budgets. Love your reaction.

Yep this was stuff from the 1950s sandwiched between Glenn Miller's, "In The Mood". And if you watch closely about a minute or so before the end, they intercut some scenes from a movie where the actor Jimmy Stewart played the part of Glenn Miller. You see Jimmy in some of those close-ups, although 90% of the band footage was the real Glenn Miller.
