its a dope analog stereo saturation unit with all of the cool elektron modulation/sequencing/compression(?), analog eq, analog filters. the fractal thing is digital, no?
@ytheeasinine Жыл бұрын
Fractal is all digital. Heat+fx has 8 analog drive circuits and 7 digital fx.

I would love to see (and hear) someone do a blind test of analog vs. digital distortion and whether it's possible to tell the difference (and also, whether one is deemed as more pleasant or better than the other).

@@ytheeasinine Yep, so no comparison. Plus the FM3 is voiced for guitars, not drums, synths or mixes etc.

I don’t think you understand WHY Elektron used analog saturation instead of digital. Digital systems are really bad at saturating signals without causing a lot of aliasing. If you personally can’t tell the difference, maybe that’s why you’re using a guitar fx processor for mastering.

Im sure you record to tape and release your music on vinyl too for that all analog sound.

Haha I thought the Fractal FM3 was going to be around the same size according to your thumbnail.

Nice video! Some of those distortion algoritms were FAT, and I'm just listening to them on my laptop speakers 😮

Oh yeahh, the drives go from clean to mean to everything in between!

Here is what I am wondering about using the fractal as a master processor. Let’s say I want to play my guitar as well? Are you routing that through the octatrack or directly into the fractal and that’s cool because I’m pretty sure the fractal has the ability to route different effects to the guitar, than to the stereo out coming from the Octatrack. Can you confirm that, because if that’s true, that’s even more cool. That makes it an end of chain mixer… I also assume that frees up a track in the Octatrack since you won’t need a master track.
@ytheeasinine Жыл бұрын
There's a couple ways you can route it. In my most recent video where I'm using the OT as a guitar looper, I've got my guitar plugged into the FM3 and running amp/cab sims, delay, and reverb, and then going out of the FM3 into the OT for additional fx and mangling, then out of the OT into the FM3 for mastering. The FM3 has 1 mono input and 2 stereo inputs, and 2 pairs of stereo outputs, which is great for routing additional gear. If you don't want to run guitar into the OT, you can have one signal chain just for guitar, and a separate signal chain for the OT. In terms of the master track, depends on what you're using it for. If you're just using it for compression and saturation, then you could use the FM3 for that. If you're using it for scenes to do global changes like filter cutoffs and freeze delays, gonna be more convenient to do that on the master track than adjusting individual tracks.

Does the FM3 have LFOs, envelope followers, or any way of modulating the FX over time?

Yup

FM3 have overbridge ? if not a big lose for me !
@ytheeasinine Жыл бұрын
obviously it's not called overbridge, but it has a similar thing ie: editor and record multitracks over usb. nowadays thats pretty standard when it comes to guitar multifx pedals

LOL ... but its not DAWLESS ... do i really need to write this here?!

It's an editor, not a daw😂 think of it as overbridge for fractal devices. You could edit on the hardware itself if you wanted, but why?

maan be honest the first beat had better sound without anything on it...

Exactly, the editor is a convenience and a very handy way of showing as well as telling and hearing. I endorse it. I assume, of course, that the computer has no part in the signal chain as far as the sound but only the control; is that right?
@ytheeasinine Жыл бұрын
@@reganjo1955 Yup! Using the computer just for the convenience of the editor, but all sounds are processed on the hardware and then recorded into my daw (reaper).
