I would like a how to fix the rear control wheel guide. It’s a common problem and spraying electrical contact cleaner into it only helps for a day. I would also love if there was a software update that gave the option of disabling the control wheel entirely. This is literally my only gripe with the GRiii.

When you’re viewing the photo you want to edit, rather than going into the main menu to find the raw developer, you can simply press the movie button and it’ll bring up a side bar that’ll have the raw developer option (as well as cropping, moire controll, levels adjustment, etc). Really useful and a quicker way to select raw developer on an image.

This entire series by Lukasz Palka is fantastic. The way decisions are explained regarding exposure/content and and use of the features of the GR are incredibly useful. The whole series is about using the GR in applied settings. This is excellent teaching in an easy to use format.

just got a new ricoh gr iii and i freaking love the ergonomics, IBIS, SOOC colors, and clarity. definitely feel more comfortable with the 28mm focal length, probably because i’ve spent a good number of years using the iphone camera. two things to consider for anyone reading: 1) i’m coming from trying a fujifilm x100t for the past year. i thought i loved the fuji program, and i still really like it because it’s fun and the film simulations are great, but i just wanted something automated. i shoot lifestyle and candid photos and i’m just not an experienced enough photographer to configure manual settings off the top of my head for indoor or low light shooting. also, i feel like there was just too much creativity options with the film simulations that i would get overwhelmed and almost disappointed when the lighting changed and the colors wasn’t what i imagined SOOC (i realize this is my personal problem, but this is a personal review). the ricoh gr iii has very nice colors and honeslty i like to use just the standard or vivid color profile because i can share it with friends so they can edit however they want. i’ve yet to try the b&w but ricoh has the crispest and most pleasing b&w i’ve seen. 2) if you’re concerned about the f2.8 performing in low light or indoors, the IBIS REALLY does magic here. i really really almost passed up on the ricoh gr iii because of the “slower” lens and no flash, but it actually does better indoors than the x100t. i also get much less motion blur of moving subjects even at ss 1/30 than my x100t in same conditions. i understand that the x100t is really old and 2 generations behind the x100v, but it really is a game changer. fuji x100t was my first real camera and i thought i really loved shooting it, but i felt i wanted something more every time i shot (most likely due to my own shortcomings). i am perfectly happy with the gr iii and if you have the coin, i’d definitely recommend.
@monkas3492
@monkas3492 3 жыл бұрын
If you had the same shutter speed on the fuji it makes absolutely no sense that you would have less motion blur on a moving subject. ibis changes exactly nothing about this. unless you maybe had camera shake. but for moving subjects you will need a faster shutterspeed either way. glad you like your camera-choice though, keep on shooting! :)

Thanks! Would you shoot or edit differently if you used a Ricoh GRII? GRII raw development lacks the mentioned shadow correction option. It does have a dynamic range correction option though, but that one also seems to affect the highlights. Or are these options equivalent?
@EYExplore
@EYExplore 3 жыл бұрын
I would still shoot to make sure my highlights look good, particularly at night. If I couldn't edit them well on the camera, I could always do so on the PC. So, getting the best raw is the most important thing. TO be honest, I haven't done much raw editing on my GR II, so I can't compare the options directly.

I would like to see Ricoh develop an image processing tool that used the GR3 tethered via USB to your computer but replicating these RAW developing options. Clearly there are many other ways to accomplish this, but a few would prefer to be purists in this regard. And, while they are at that, how about a 27mm lens (40 equiv) ? Thanks.

Used the GRIII for 3weeks. The relatively high price is the GRIII’s No1 enemy that makes its flaws inexcusable. Its not a cheap pocket camera in many countries. Its high price is cleverly achieved by it being overly-hyped up by Western media as a “street camera” and given a self-created cult following. Classic American marketing. If it was a REAL street photography camera, it surely would have these mandatory BASIC things on such a “street camera”: 1. Big and bright EVF with excellent focus peaking. But as usual, most mftrs are clever in not giving such competently useful EVFs unless you buy the higher-priced models. Ricoh is bullshitting you here. Where’s the EVF? 2. Fast and accurate manual focusing. How is this possible when the LCD screen is almost blanked out by bright outdoor lighting? Back to square 1….same issue as your smartphones. 3. Zone focusing scale. Do you see one? 4. Ruggedly built. While its price is rugged, with a magnesium body, its dial feels flimsy while that silly ring around the lens (which always comes loose) make the product look like a cheap product. In reality, the majority of GRIII photos that you have seen, can easily be replicated with any flagship smartphones with simple editing, (which I have been doing since iPhone 4 until now. And I also use an XT2 with Voight 40mm 1.2). Its certainly fun and exciting to participate in such a cult following thats created and “excited-tized” by American social media if you can just close your eye and buy one GRIII, while having loads of other cameras. But if you have to ponder, analyse and rethink many times before deciding, then pls look at my comments above and re-think. Do you need to spend so much on a hyped-up product while your own smartphone (if cleverly exploited) can give similar results? And dont forget…your smartphone can be used in the rain😂😂😂…Do you dare to use the GR3 in the rain when merely DUST ingress into sensor is already an issue for many users? The more you analyse without emotions and biasness, the more you’ll see that the GRIII is a highly “exciting-fied” piece of cheap stuff for amateurs wanting to appear hip and professional. No thanks. At the moment, I’ll stick to my XT2 + Voight, while continuing to use my iP12ProMax for all casual shooting.

GR3 reliably takes almost foolproof pictures very quickly, that is the selling point, that is what it does well. It is expensive because packs a lot of hardware in a compact package (aps-c + ibis in your pocket). there are other ways to spend $1000, but none will be an equivalent point and shoot. the big negative point for me is that the expensive batteries have deplorable runtime, and the in camera usb-c charging is scary.
