Are we stuck with the type of toe stop that came with our skates? I have one that's an Allen wrench into the stopper itself, it doesn't get to adjust like yours. If I wanted one like yours could I swap it or must I stick with the same type? I have a pair of Candi Girls

Hi! I had to look up your skates. Your toe stops aren't going to be adjustable like mine, and the housing is more narrow so it won't take the same type of toe stops. However, you can swap out the stock toe stops for stops that should give you a performance boost. The Sure Grip Bullseye is compatible and got good recommendations, here are 2 retailers online: pigeonskates.com/collections/toe-stops/products/bolt-on-toe-stop?variant=8145690394711 and wickedskatewear.com/shop/ols/products/bullseye-toe-stops. You can also usually get a lot more performance out of rec skates by upgrading the stock wheels if you haven't already, and possibly loosening the trucks if they shipped tight (they often do, to give beginners more stability, but as a skater becomes more proficient, loosening the trucks A LITTLE at a time can really help the skates become more agile and responsive). Hope this helps!

@@ThisRad This is very very helpful! Thank you! I'm just now learning how to stop on the toe stop and yea...it does feel a little weird I think a better Stopper would help. & I did loosen the wheels & the trucks before I ever got on them. I find it more helpful when they're looser! Thank you so much for the links I so appreciate it 💗

Hi! What boot brand/series is that?.. I love the solid black!
@ThisRad

Hi! The boot with the pink plate is a Bont hybrid (leather + carbon fiber), about $300. I really love this boot, it felt great right out of the box, no blisters or break-in period, and fits my narrow feet so well. The other boot in the vid (black plate) is an intermediate level boot and worked great my first 2 years, that's a Luigino F-1 (leather), about $150 but often closer to $100 at Derby Warehouse. Both types of boots are heat moldable so you can get a custom fit.

I need help My skates came with a different kind of toe stops with a "round pyramid" shape and I have to step higher on my toe to use them Can I replace it with those small ones with the cookie shape without having issues with the plate or the skating?

Hi friend, if your skate plate has a screw-in toe stop housing (like mine in the video), then yes, you can replace it with another type of toe stop. That's the great benefit of adjustable toe stops. I occasionally switch mine out for different needs, and more often, I'm adjusting the height. Here's a sample page of toe stops, all of the ones listed under "Adjustable Toe Stops" will fit a 5/8" housing, which is standard on a lot of plates but not all: www.derbywarehouse.com/Toe_Stops/catpage-RSSTOPS.html The length of the stem (the metal part that screws in) can vary from short (around 20mm) to long (up to 38mm) and you just want to make sure you screw in at least 1cm so the toe stop is installed securely. Some skates don't have a screw-in housing, and the toe stop is "bolt on". Some bolt on stops can be replaced when they wear out, but would be limited to that type of toe stop. If your skate does have the screw-in housing, your problem with having to step higher might be resolved by simply adjusting your toe stop to a lower position. You can do this by unscrewing the toe stop a few rotations, locking it again, and then trying it out; repeat until it's the right height for you. Hope this helps!

which wheels do you use?
@ThisRad
@ThisRad 3 жыл бұрын
Hi! I change my wheels a lot to match what I'm wanting to do on my skates and the surface I'm skating on. If you're mostly an outdoor recreational skater, you can get by with some cushy outdoor wheels for smooth cruising (78A...right now I'm enjoying Luminous wheels but there are tons out there, Radar Energy, SureGrip, Moxi, Atom), and maybe some hybrids for a bit less softness and more agility (85A+ like Moxi fundaes, Grindstone smokeshow...), hybrids are great for if your beach or street skate might get mixed with some park or dance skating. For derby, I've used so many wheels and so far none come close to the performance of Radar Halos, I have them in 91-93-95-97-101 and swap them out to get the ideal grip + slide on smooth concrete or sport court. They're not great for outdoor skating unless you're on a smooth surface like a rink---I use them all the time for session work on my driveway drilling movements but wouldn't go on a street skate with them. I like wheels on the narrow side for dancing (30-34mm width/contact with the floor). My favorite trail skates are super wide Atom Road Hogs, they're smooth and very fast for an outdoor wheel. Hope that helps!

Can a toe stop ever break?
@ThisRad
@ThisRad 3 жыл бұрын
Yes, and it's not at all uncommon. For bolt-on toe stops I suggest going with a proven brand like Sure-Grip or PowerDyne, and for adjustable screw-in toe stops there's a wider variety of reliable options--I've tried about 80% of the stoppers on this page and wouldn't worry about them breaking as long as they're screwed into the housing properly (at least 1cm in the housing): www.derbywarehouse.com/Toe_Stops__Plugs/catpage-RSSTOPS.html The breakage issue we're really wanting to avoid is where the metal shaft/stem breaks, leaving a portion of it still inside the housing or otherwise damaging the housing. With the higher quality toe stops, the stem is very strong and unlikely to break even under high forces (again, as long as enough of the stem is secured in the housing). With low quality toe stops, the stem can be made of less durable metal and/or might be hollow, making it more likely to break--I've seen this happen personally and it's worth it to spend the extra bucks to get a better toe stop. Lastly, as the rubber wears down, you want to watch for when it gets close to exposing the metal underneath, and definitely replace it before the metal is exposed.

someone pls tell me can plastic toe stops use for road

They can, but they won't last long. NO toe stop is meant to last forever, though. Always have a second pair on hand (and proper tools to change them) for when they do eventually break down. For outdoor skating, personally, I love the Chaya toe stops. They are a bit more expensive than any others, but they're also meant for street use, come in a small selection of different colors, and they do last a lot longer than any other brand I've tried so far. When used strictly indoors, they really do stop you on a dime and they last for a couple years. Indoors, I do prefer the Sure-Grip mini grippers, but the rough carpeting at most rinks wear them down rather quickly (I've been changing mine every 2-4 months!), but I have yet to find any of a comparable size in a color I like so I keep using them, often buying 2 or 3 sets at a time. Also note: I skate anywhere from 70-120 hours month (more in the summer since I can get out, living in the north, it's the rainy/snowy season for me right now, so no outdoor skating at the moment)...so, of course, I go through stops - indoors and out - a bit faster than an average skater will. When only skating half an hour a day - even if you skate every day - or if you're doing a 6-hour skate once a week, your stops will last much longer, too. Generally speaking, the more often you skate, the harder you want your stop as it will last longer...but it's still a good idea to have that spare set on hand for when it's needed. As soon as you have to put on your spares, it's time to order a new set.
