What would be the best way to save data from QB Desktop without transferring it to QBO. I only require access to the historical data going forward but do not need it brought into QBO at all. What options should I consider to save this and be able to utilize it in the future. (example do I still require network access) ?

I currently run QBDT 2020 and QB POS 19 both on an in-house server. Is there a Quick Books Training video on the migration from this combination to QBOnline? Also is there a Quick Books Training Video on how the credit card terminal is going to interface to QBOnline?

Hi, we bought QB online this year thinking our bookkeeper who runs the Desktop version could easily keep our online version updated weekly with her transactions. We get the notice about the 60 day migration rule. We already set up the onine version, but can't seem to update weekly to keep our online account in sync with ther desktop version. Is that not a thing? I specifically asked the onine salesman when we bought. Thank you!

Hey there. We'd like to help clarify a few things here. QuickBooks Online and QuickBooks Desktop are two separate products that work independently. The 60-day import feature is a one-time occurrence when switching to Online as it will rewrite the data in QBO. More information on migrating your data can be found here: quickbooks.intuit.com/learn-support/en-us/help-article/import-export-data-files/move-quickbooks-desktop-file-quickbooks-online/L6af3Z0Fb_US_en_US. Wondered if you could tell me if transferring a company to QBO in the middle of the year is discouraged? I'm concerned about the payroll reports (941's) - quarterly info / sales tax reports data etc. We have to make a decision to update by May 31 2024 to Desktop 2024 or QBO. I just have been so worried about all of that mid-year info not being transferred over properly

It's always easier to start fresh at the beginning of the year. However, I understand migrating may occur at different times and can't be helped. QuickBooks has a guide to help you set up payroll after you export. I recommend keeping the Desktop subscription until you get everything set up and ready in your Online account. Here's more info about exporting (quickbooks.intuit.com/learn-support/en-us/help-article/import-export-data-files/move-quickbooks-desktop-file-quickbooks-online/L6af3Z0Fb_US_en_US) and a link to the Payroll Guide is listed under step 3. I also recommend checking out the article for verifying your principal officer and business identity for payroll or payments accounts here: (quickbooks.intuit.com/learn-support/en-us/help-article/accounting-bookkeeping/verify-principal-officer-business-identity-payroll/L82qAb3me_US_en_US). Best of luck. -Karey

You have a couple of more options if you have an older version of Desktop. Here's an Online Tool: (quickbooks.intuit.com/learn-support/en-us/help-article/company-file/quickbooks-desktop-file-restoration-tool/L8DhA30cW_US_en_US?uid=lzrhtkp7). Or you can send your file to the QuickBooks Data Services Team for migration. You'll need to contact support with the below options if you decide to go that route. quickbooks.intuit.com/learn-support/en-us/help-article/account-management/contact-quickbooks-desktop-support/L9d0ZUCrC_US_en_US?uid=lzri1hf3 Wishing you success. -Karey

Good information, but the challenges with manual transfer is entering inventory balances, and the a/r, a/p, and the P&L accs since we also need to show the balance of each customer and vendor, and the quantity of each item.

When I click "Control BQ OK" I get this error message "For security, Intuit does not support this browser or browser version." I click on the links provided, and I have updated to most recent versions of FireFox and Chrome, and I still get the same error message. No matter what I do I get this error message. What can I do to get my desktop info into QB online?

You may receive this message if your QuickBooks version is 2020 or older. If so, you can move your data to QuickBooks Online with an online tool. Here's how: (quickbooks.intuit.com/learn-support/en-us/help-article/company-file/quickbooks-desktop-file-restoration-tool/L8DhA30cW_US_en_US?uid=lzkf8ndg). If you need any further help, you can also send your file to the Data Services Team for migration. To do that, I recommend you contact the Desktop Support Team, who can help you get your file sent to them. I'll link that team's contact details for you below. quickbooks.intuit.com/learn-support/en-us/help-article/account-management/contact-quickbooks-desktop-support/L9d0ZUCrC_US_en_US?uid=lzkf52iu Wishing you the best of luck. -Karey

1) My company has 2 arms (both a C3 and a C4) for which we currently have 2 QB Desktop files that we want to convert to QBO. However, we use one company email address for both companies. In other words, we don't have separate email addresses for each company as they all fall under one parent heading. Will we be able to convert the two files using the one email address? I ask because I am trying to think through how QB will know which company to convert if we do that. Or do we need to create/setup separate email addresses for each company? 2) Is there a way to convert some but not all of the data from QB Desktop to QBO? We only want to go back to a certain year vs the inception of the QB Desktop file - is there some way to initiate that during the conversion? 3) We all have a lot of vendors and customers set up years ago in the QB Desktop file that are not used currently and we would prefer not to carry over to QBO. Is there a way to do that? If we inactivate those vendors will they not convert over? 4) Lastly, do you have any videos on how to set up QBO if we purchased the software from Techsoup?

These are all really great questions, Kimberly! If you have multiple businesses that you're wanting to bring into QuickBooks Online, each business will need it's own QuickBooks Online subscription to be exported into. However, if you'd like, you can start each QuickBooks Online subscription/account, and use the same login information for each account, That way, when you login to QBO, you'll be taken to a screen that asks you which account you'd like to go, and from there you can click on whichever you like, as well as having a 'Switch Company' option within each account. If you'd prefer to only bring in a certain amount of data into QuickBooks Online, the only way to do so would be to restore an old .QBB back-up of the company back into QB Desktop that ends in the year that you would like. With that being said, you can actually see a detailed list of what converts over to QBO during the export process, and how, right here: (quickbooks.intuit.com/learn-support/en-us/help-article/import-export-data-files/expect-switch-quickbooks-desktop-quickbooks-online/L0dEyNosU_US_en_US). For more information about using a QuickBooks Online subscription through TechSoup, you can actually visit TechSoups FAQ page! I hope this helps! ^Faith

The Admin credentials on our Desktop are unknown, we updated Online admin credentials by submitting company docs to get the Admin changed. How do we change/update the Desktop to match Online?? When in the Company tab to export company info - a message is received that I am not the admin.

Hi, Sonya. It sounds as though you may have been working through a Master Admin Claim on the account. If you're still having trouble logging in with your credentials, please get in touch with our Technical Support Team using the 'Help(?)' icon > 'Contact Us' within your QB Desktop product, and they can take a look at what's causing the issue and assist you further from there. ^Faith
