I used to hate his version of this song but I’ve really come to appreciate it for what it is. The way he changes his timbre a lot makes it seem like the thoughts of someone in a lot of turmoil and conflicting emotions. The way he vocalizes the lyrics toward the end of the backbeat or bar evinces that it’s a stream of consciousness rant - which, knowing this scene of the agony in the garden in the Bible isn’t far from the source). And he’s interpreting Jesus as a different kind of rockstar than most productions, a late 80s to early 90s metal that was all but wiped out when grunge changed the genre in the 90s.

Sebastian has an amazing voice. He definitely has the chops for this role and this song. But I feel like he can't quite get the timing and the beat right. It doesnt flow quite like it should. I don't think either is doing the other justice. I am a diehard JCS fan and have been since I was tiny and honestly when I found out he was cast as JC, I was very excited. The role requires a real primal, rock n roll SCREAM and no one can do that better than Sebastian. Plus, as is very evident here, he really does have an amazing voice and vibratto. Why he switches back and forth bewteen voices so much is a mystery to me and I wonder why the director went in that direction. I salute him for doing something new but I was just not impressed with this. Sorry, Sebastian. This is a TOUGH role.

I have to agree with Erin on this one. Bach is a phenomenal vocalist; however, at least in this version, it's like he's singing it for the first time, only after having heard it a few times. He's struggling in this key. It's too low for him. Worst of all is his timing, an utter disaster. There's no flow and you can't even tap your foot to him. I can see how, with some practice, Sebastian could eventually pull this off in later performances.
