Aliens was also one my favorite movies and movie sequels of all time next to T2: JUDGEMENT DAY. Even to this day both movies has AWESOME VISUAL EFFECTS it’s classic movies like these that you have to appreciate the passion and efforts everyone has put into them financially from investors, to the actors performing and creating the surroundings from the production crew you know that it’s not just people in ping pong suits and CGI ANIMATIONS that movies nowadays are doing. RIPLEY & SARAH CONNOR are truly the PERSONIFICATION of female empowerment in my opinion compared to MAJORITY of the BS that’s being presented now!

Actually Hicks is literally just napping, he's done too many drops that he's catching up on actual sleep after the freezer(cryo chamber), plus I've been on a ship, it's an odd comfort with the rocking, maybe a similar situation? Plus it highlights the different experience levels comparing Gorman who is near pissing himself, to Hicks who is so relaxed he is literaly sleeping through the turbulance. Also on the topic of how Ripley knew what to do with her new toys, she learned from Hicks when they had that little training bonding session

And some people think this is a bad sequel. I don't see it. The performances are good, the action is great, the special effects are stunning, it doesn't diminish the original with its additions or blatantly contradict anything established in the first film. It's easy to hate it because it's a shift in genre from a sci-fi horror to more of a sci-fi action, but the quality of the movie isn't at all bad in any regard.

I think what makes Ripley such a remarkable character is that she shows us vulnerability. She isn't awesome for the sake of being awesome; she's awesome because you can see throughout the movie that she is dealing with massive grief and extreme fear, but she pushes through that and overcomes the challenges that she faces. And it's also a positive note that her strength isn't due to the writers tearing down the male characters like so many movies do these days, but she rises to the challenge and finds a way to hold her own with them. That in itself makes her a much stronger character in my eyes. And that's also a distinction I can see; she isn't a strong female character, she is a strong character who is female.

There were so many acting choices that Sigourney Weaver made in this movie that just landed perfectly. Moments where a little too much in either direction and it could have made the character a bit too aggressive or weak or stubborn or reckless but she nails every one of them. It's like watching someone throwing darts and hitting twenty bullseyes in a row.

In "Alien," Ripley was a strong character that was female. In "Aliens" she is a strong female character. I'm not sure what was going on with Cameron during this period in his life, but his films during this time seem to like to explore motherhood. Ripley's actions are motivated by this quintessentially female maternal instinct that gives her the motivation to do otherwise foolish things like go back into the hive after reaching safety to find a surrogate daughter who was likely already dead or face-hugged. It was necessary for Ripley in "Aliens" to be female, because that is critical for her character's motivation. It was not necessary in "Alien" because the desire for survival is not gendered, and indeed, the role in that movie was written with the assumption that the character would be played by a man. A male motivation, perhaps, would have been if a character chose to stay behind to guarantee that some explosive would go off, knowing that he was sacrificing his life for the team (or society, or humanity). We actually see male motivation similar to this at the end of T2, when Schwarzenegger's character sacrifices himself to prevent the creation of Skynet. The character arc in that film for that character was for the machine to learn to be human, and because humanity is sexually dimorphous, the male-bodied machine would necessarily develop masculine characteristics as it became human. Note that these is a significant difference between this sort of sacrifice and what Ripley did at the end of Aliens. Crucial to Ripley's actions is that she had to get out with Newt. This is not a take-them-sown-with-me sort of sacrifice, indeed, if it were a sacrifice it would have been worthless since, even if Newt survived, she would still have been an orphan. The male dies so that society does not end, but the female lives so that society can continue. The problem with the "strong female character" thing today is that the people who claim Rule 63 action heroes are such either do not understand or do not like femininity. The female-ness of these characters are a merely costumes because they act like men and have male capabilities. This is why they are uncompelling. The writers don't understand what female strength is - they seem to think that it is male strength, but looks hotter. They compensate for this poor characterization by throwing in cartoonishly misogynist adversaries to try to trick the audience into thinking that the protagonist is woman merely because other characters react to her as though she were one. The joke is on them, and us, when it turns out that she is really a man that just looks like a woman and kicks their asses like Arnold or Sly. In "Aliens," Ripley's character is not particularly feminine-looking - her figure is de-emphasized, her costuming and hair is not particularly feminine, she is not striking out against "the Patriarchy," and the soldiers don't take her seriously at first not because she is a woman, but because she is a civilian. Despite all of this, she is universally accepted to be a "strong female character." She is a strong character because her motivations are fleshed out, and she is a strong female character because those motivations are maternal.

She makes quick, understandable decisions and adapts to the situations as they evolve. She doesn't mind taking charge, but she also doesn't demand to BE in charge, often taking a more lead role only when someone needs to step up into it. She doesn't diminish the need or usefulness of other characters, instead allowing them to play to their own strengths and also isn't afraid to have moments of vulnerability, as seen by her plea to Hicks in the event she gets impregnated by the aliens, which is a moment that further develops their budding relationship. These are realistic characters, behaving in a believable manner in an extreme situation and growing in a natural way. This is why not everyone CAN or SHOULD write, because it takes time, effort and talent to do it well. I wish more people in the mainstream would understand and acknowledge that.

Yes, Hicks and Apone were laughing because she impressed them. Her look was also challenging, so they gave in and admitted they had underestimated her (maybe because she's a woman, or it could have simply been because she wasn't military and was a pilot, not normally a blue-collar loader). It was not derision. They're not bad guys. Some of the others are, though.

There were three female soldiers in the group, so it wasn't because she was a woman. I think that since she was not military, the grunts assumed that she couldn't do anything useful; even Vasquez referred to Ripley as "Snow White." It was also 1986, when a badass female character was not so common.

@@ariochiv No one listened to Ripley in the first movie, either, and those female Colonial Marines, especially Vasquez and Dietrich, were manly women. Hudson even joked about Vasquez being mistaken for a man, so gender was indeed a thing in the sequel. Ripley's foil in the first movie was Lambert, who was sort of a stereotypical weak, hysterical woman, while in the sequel it was macho women who might as well have been men. The first movie showed us that a woman could be a strong, courageous badass, and the sequel showed us that a female badass could be feminine (and motherly) rather than masculine.

The actress who played Newt was a daughter of an US Airforce officer who was stationed in England. There was an open casting call at her school and she tried out for the role with no acting experience, it was her first and only acting role. She's now a teacher in California.

I loathe child actors almost without exception. Most of the time they can't act worth a durn and just suck at it 99.9% of the time. There are a few exceptions, though very rare and I think Carrie Henn was one of them exceptions. She did a fantastic job imho. Playing a tramatized child survior perfectly. Most likely becuase she wasn't an actress and hadn't been ruined but acting classes forced upon her by parents hoping for a movie star child who will grow up a star so they can leach off of them and as such was able to just do what the director and her coach wanted her to do. I can see her at 99 years old: "I fought Aliens in the 4th grade. I have video proof!", LOL.

I heard after this movie, Ripley and Hicks got married, adopted Newt, and lived on a berry farm with their assistant Bishop. Every moth or so, they’re visited by ripleys grandkids and great grandchildren. They make various berry pies and sell them at the county fair. And NOTHING WENT WRONG EVER.

I LOVE that when confronted by the alien in the cockpit of the dropship, Ferro (the pilot) doesn't freak out. Watch what the first thing she does is. She turns to reach for her pistol, strapped to her side. She is going to try to subdue this invader or die trying. This movie is FILLED with strong, intelligent female characters.

Yup. All of the marines rise to the moment when given the chance. We figure Ferro is Lambert all over again, but no she dies fighting. The Lieutenant fights to save his team to the very last and refuses to leave Vasquez to save himself. Hudson, the goofy whiner, is still moral to the last, wants to frag Burke immediately, takes Ripley seriously throughout the movie, saves Newt without hesitation, and in the end he stands tall and saves everyone else's lives.

Sigourney, Linda H, Jamie Lee, Charlize, Mila J, Carrie-Anne, Uma, Jennifer L, Michelle Y, Kate B, I got so many more - plus ensembles like Sucker Punch, Gunpowder Milkshake - I've never felt an imbalance in male v female action stars - some of the movies are bad (Ultraviolet, Aeon Flux) but it wasn't for lack of trying to make good female action roles - and there have certainly been plenty of flops with the famous male stars as well.

Ripley is a total bad ass but you could see in this film that she is not better scientist than the scientists, she is not better soldier than the soldiers. She has experience and is very smart. She won the fans respect but for important things. Nowadays in order to show a strong female role writers make them godly!! They are stronger and smarter and experienced than men. Ripley wasn´t competing against anyone, she had many flaws but that made her real and appealing.

When Vasquez and Gorman died, It gave me chills and It also made me shout "YEAH!!! THATS the way to go If you have no hope!!!" And the fact that Gorman redeemed himself and became a hero by vindicating himself to TRY and save her, was so admirable. (When they both intertwined their hands holding the detonator - it was .. so heroic, sad and scary.)

This was great! ALIENS came out when I was in college in 1986, and my friends and I went back to see it 4-5 times. It's so much fun seeing younger generations discovering this and other great films from back then, we reacted the same way in the theater 😁

I love that it ends with mom vs mom, and when Newt calls Ripley “Mommy!”, it’s the icing on the cake. All the characters were great. The production values are awesome, and the music is iconic.

One thing to keep in mind about Ripley is that she is a trained ships officer. She has technical and more importantly leadership training…she is used to making decisions and analyzing situations. She basically takes command after the Lieutenant is injured and people naturally follow her.

I consider Ripley the greatest hero character in film-making, period. So well written and perfectly acted, she has a believable character that shows intelligence, charismatic wit, protectiveness and moral courage, yet also shows her vulnerabilities and very natural terrified reactions. And doing it all without seeming contrived like a lot of "flawed" heroes in many movies.

Definitely. She's my favourite character and this is my favourite movie. She's a great actor and an amazing non verbal actor. Very good at conveying a lot with an expression of a glance. My favourite example being the expression and head tilt before lighting the eggs up. And Newt's death stare at Burke, while Ripley is describing how he tried to put an Alien in her, is perfect. Just a quick shot but if looks could kill Burke would have been dead on the spot. I thought Carrie Henn did a great job for a girl with no experience who wasn't trying to become an actor. The scream annoyed me but since that was what got her the job I have to give her props for it. Not Bill Paxton's best acting job but definitely my favourite role of his. He get most of the best quotable lines. And when I think of Michael Biehn I always think of him as Dwayne Hicks instead of Kyle Reese. (Although I do love his role of "losing the plot" Navy Seal in The Abyss.) And Paul Reiser was perfect as Burke. Watch him in Mad About You and then this and you have to appreciate his talent. But the best role in the movie still has to go to the Alien Queen. Still the best monster/creature to ever appear on screen. Apart from her walking and running motions she is the most fearsome but at the same time the most real looking (because she is real. What you see is what Sigourney Weaver is really looking at(minus all the wires removed from the shots that lead to all the people controlling it). CGI creatures, no matter how cool they look always look like a CGI creature and not something that's really there (The dogs and the banshees in Avatar3D are the exceptions) No one has beaten the Queen (in Aliens only) yet.

And why do you think Ripley get over her daughter death soon? Just becouse she is ready to face her fears doesnt mean she recovered from her death. This movie is easily one of the great action films of the 80's. It also established a fair number of cultural hallmarks that have survived even into present day. The Colonial Marines became pretty much the template for a lot of marines in science fiction settings for video games, books, and movies.

Fun fact: as it comes to the number of aliens in the film, when the producers read the script of "Aliens", they didn't wanna go with it, because they figured the costs of the alien suits alone would have been horribly high. They approved the shooting only because James Cameron promised to do all the scenes with just *five alien suits* - and he kept his word. Incredible, how movie magic and imagination work together to suggest that there must have been way over 100 aliens in the film.

2:04 I don't know much about maritime law, so someone else might be able to correct me, but Ripley got picked up by a salvage team. If no one was alive, they could legally claim the shuttle Narcissus as their own, fix it up, sell it for a profit, or send it to a ship-breaker to have it broken down for parts and scrap and sell it off like that -- whatever they wanted to do. Since Ripley was alive when they found the vessel, the rights probably reverted to Weyland-Yutani, so that salvage team would have likely had to surrender everything they recovered in hopes of some kind of reward.

Under contemporary marine salvage law, they'd be entitled to an award commensurate with the value of the property saved. An interstellar-capable FTL starship -- even a small shuttle -- would be worth quite a hefty sum to its owner of record and the salvors did incur significant cost and assume significant risk, so it's reasonable to assume that Weyland-Yutani would have been compelled to pay a significant reward.

Arguably, best sequel ever made. Cameron's genius was giving Ripley a mother role then fighting it out with another mother. Best heroine in a Sci fi movie, hands down. Wrong. She wasn't inferring anything like shoving it up his ass. She was just being sexy/sassy and confident showing them how capable and smooth she was operating the loader. Your hyperboles are your dreams. And the Sargeant was not talking " down " to her. He simply asked back to her, " I don't know, is there anything you can do?" Because he honestly had no idea if she had any skills useful for them on the ship, simple as that. And they laughed at the end because they were very pleasantly surprised at her fine ability. The sarge laughed in a good natured, " Well I'll be damned." way. No need for you to exaggerate what are just common type of reactions of people/characters.

When Ripley was getting the weapons ready, she actually had a recent tutorial from Hicks after he gave her the tracker. So her knowing what to do with the weapons made sense because it was fresh in her mind. Plus, she already worked out the last kinks in use when she was in the Ops room skirmish right before. You see her trying to put what learned in practice and it took her second.

I read the they had the script approved, and production pretty much ready to go but no one had thought to check with Sigourney Weaver whether she would do it. She realised that she has them over a barrel and asked for a million dollars. The studio said no and told Cameron to rewrite the script without her and he said no, but promised them he would make the film for $16 million and they agreed. Amazing performance, amazing character, one of the best action films ever made.

Great reaction!!! So much fun to watch and such a great movie. The effects were all practical. It was still very early days of CGI and CGI as we know it hadn’t really been used yet (apart from a couple of films and not for very much content. Although the budget was higher than ALIEN, it was still relatively small and Cameron had to use a lot of his engineering ingenuity to invent some of the effects. If you get a chance, the behind the scenes documentaries are an amazing watch. It’s amazing that he squeezed as much quality out of that budget as he did and made it look that good. Such an ambitious film and it totally paid off!!

Sgt. Apone is an iconic character. Al Matthews also cut a pretty good song "Fool" a few years before this movie, and served in the Marines for 6 years. He passed in 2018, RIP. Edit: Since you mentioned Terminator 2... This movie was directed by the writer/director of the first Terminator(1984). Originally, the character of the terminator was supposed to be played by the actor who plays Bishop the android in this movie, Lance Henriksen. However, when Arnold Schwarzenegger showed up and auditioned for the role of Kyle Reese, James Cameron decided to have him play the "movie monster" instead. He then wrote in Henriksen as a cop in Terminator, and gave him the role of Bishop in Aliens(1986) later as consolation for having lost out on the last opportunity to play a robot. The role of Kyle Reese (which Arnie originally auditioned for) ended up going to Michael Beihn, who plays Cpl. Hicks in this movie. But to answer your question, the role of Goreman in Aliens is not played by the same actor from Terminator 2.

The guy you asked if he was in Terminator two, Burk, is Paul Reiser. An up an coming comic when this came out. He went onto star in the popular sitcom, Mad About You. But I am pretty sure he was not in T2. However, the phycologist in the police headquarters is from The Terminator he is the robot in this movie. Vazquez is the foster mom from T2. She is not Hispanic but Jewish believe it or not. Hicks is the guy sent back to save the mom in terminator. Hudson is Bill Paxton. A fairly famous actor after this movie that died not long ago. Oh with the loader scene. they weren't laughing because she was a woman that could work the loader. They were laughing because she was a civilian that could work the loader. The next Alien movie is kind of weak. The worst of the bunch. But they get better again after that but as good as the first two.

Fun fact: The actress who played Vasquez (Jeanette Goldstein) was also in Titanic. She had the small part of the mother who was telling her kids a bedtime story while the ship was sinking. Also, This was the only film Carrie Henn (Newt) ever made. She is an Elementary School teacher now. You may have noticed that she has sort of a British accent that comes and goes during the film. This is because her father was an American serviceman stationed at Lakenheath Air Force Base in England (Which I also have been stationed at) and she had lived in England since she was 2.

He received a transmission from his marine wife before she died saying they encountered a xenomorph. So, company lied to the marines to and why Hick's was quiet and was only marine not to really question her. Even in the training scene, yes, he was falling for her, but he saw the strong will and good woman I think like his wife that passed.

One of the greatest movies ever made!!! You two NEED to see the episode of the Netflix show “The Movies That Made Us” about the making of Aliens. It truly is amazing how many obstacles were in the way of James Cameron when he was trying to make this movie. And how he practically invented the Space Marine genre that is so prevalent in video games like Halo and Doom. Also I’m on team Special Edition as well. Not only does it have great scenes like the colony of Hadley’s Hope before it’s taken over by the Xenomorph’s, or the awesome auto-turret scene, but it has a scene that never should’ve been taken out. The scene when Ripley is given news by Carter Burke that her daughter Amanda had passed away while Ellen was in hyper sleep. Not only does it further humanize Ripley but it carries over in the ending where the fight between Ripley and the Alien Queen is actually mother vs mother.

I agree, the scene where Ripley's informed of her daughter's death never should have been cut from the theatrical release. It's vital as it drives the entire emotional hook of the film. I actually don't understand how people, people that are well-paid to edit movies for a living no less, could misunderstand or simply disregard that fact and come to the decision to leave it out. Oh well, at least it was rectified in the Special Edition.

There is a book that explains why Ripley was missing for 57 years. I believe there is a cut scene where Ripley comes across a cocooned Burke and she just walks on leaving him to his fate. It may be in the dvd extras. Fun fact - The actor's mother actually cheered in the cinema when he died... Fun fact 2 - They some of the music from Star Trek: Wraith of Khan in the action scenes.

It’s amazing for the time that Hicks is portrayed as an attractive partner to Ripley not because he rescues her or is an emotionally detached tragic hero, but he recognizes Ripley’s competence and defers to it. He’s confident, non-toxic masculine, and doesn’t hesitate to be advised by the better party in the situation. Even when he’s “educating” her, she’s the one directing it and he has nothing but admiration for it. It makes him a great action flick partner and romantic interest even today, where we still don’t encounter a lot of that.

The shot of Hicks napping was very intentional; it was right after their CO just admitted (while sweating bullets) that he's barely done any combat drops, highlighting his inexperience. By showing Hicks napping, they are illustrating that Hicks may be a lower rank but he is more experienced and capable than Gorman is, because while Gorman is nervous and anxious and upset, Hicks is so calm that he's fallen asleep.

This is one of those extended cuts that actually takes away from the movie. Seeing the colonists still alive early kinda ruins the original vibe, and was wholly unnecessary. It was a great original edit. If you compare the two cuts, the shorter one does a better job of not insulting the viewer's intelligence. Now let's talk about the despecialized.....

You guys should definitely check out The Fifth Element! It’s also sci-fi action, but it’s a very underrated gem I feel like. It has a cult following. It’s one of my all time favorite films. I can quote it word for word haha

Ripley’s character was so well rounded. At the beginning of the movie, she didn’t come off like “Hell yeah, I need revenge…let’s go get them!” No, she was scared and didn’t want to go at first. But I believe she felt she needed closure, make sure the aliens were destroyed in order to be able to go on with her life. That’s the only reason why she changed her mind and went.

What I love most is that every event makes sense within the context of someone's motivation or is set up by some prior event. In particular, one of the details that I love most is that after Ripley gets on the shuttle, a blast pushes the shuttle into the platform, and as the shuttle pulls away you can see that some piece of debris has gotten caught in the landing gear as it closed, as a subtle justification for how the queen got on board. Just that little attention to detail that most would never notice the first time but which makes rewatching so enjoyable. By contrast, in the first film I have to willfully accept the violation of conservation of matter when the baby alien suddenly becomes full grown without having to eat anything to grow. James Cameron would have dropped a throwaway line about the food storage being breached or something like that to justify it. Just saying.

This was great. Me and my brother were around 10/11 years old when this came out and everyone was blown away! Sigourney Weaver was so cool. There were so many brilliant female actors around, such as Geena Davis, Linda Hamilton, Susan Sarandon, Jamie Lee Curtis, Carrie Fisher, Julie Walters etc. It's a shame that the media currently pushes a narrative that is the opposite, in order to divide people.

Vasquez was john Connors step mom in t2. Bishop (lance henrikson) was one of the cops and one of the soldiers played Reece also in t1. So 3 of the cast members were in the terminator films

James Cameron's sequel is Brilliant. Both part 1 by Ridley Scott & Part 2 by James Cameron have immense rewatch value 👌🏼💯🎥🎬🎥🤘🏻

If you want the perfect Alien trilogy, its Alien, Alien Isolation (videogame), Aliens. Seriously, play Alien isolation if you haven't, its a great game and fits perfectly into the lore.

This is one the movies I would love to watch for the first time like you two did. I remember when my parents introduced me to alien and then aliens. This is and will always be a staple in my childhood and what started my love for film. Great video to watch.

When I think about action characters I always think about Arnold Schwarzenegger, Sylvester Stallone, and sigourney Weaver. Still to this day my top three most favorite actors. And yeah Ripley knows how to do all that stuff with the weapons because she had hits show her how. Remember when she told him to show her everything well that's what he did.

No , you should have stuck with the regular version. It's a much better film. Sometime the extra information in the Special Edition just spoils the magic and the surprise. Although the auto-gun scene in the specail edition is awesome.

Always love watching Aliens reactions. Just wish people wouldn’t watch the special edition. James Cameron really thrives with an editor. Besides the tunnel gun sections, most of the added scenes detract from the movie, making it to heavy handed and take away from some of the mystery. Most of his “directors cuts” are bloated and make it clear he benefited from people making him edit

Couldn't agree more. The theatrical cut is the superior version for sure, even if it doesn't flesh out the kind of mother-daughter relationship between Ripley and Newt. That's the beauty of it ... it didn't have to. It was clear as day what was happening even without the additional scenes about Amanda.

Bishop is one of my favorite characters in all of cinema. You suspect he's a bad guy based on the previous movie, but he turns out to be the most wholesome guy ever. And Lance Hendriksen sold the character like a master salesman; he's a great actor.

Thankfully, you saw the superior SPECIAL EDITION version which has the Amanda Ripley scene, the functioning colony scene, Newt's family's discovery of the derelict ship scene, the automated gun scene, the Hudson speculation about queen ants scene and the name exchange scene. This is the version both James Cameron and Sigourney Weaver prefer. The future Ripley inhabits is implied to be a dystopic corporatocracy. The most pervasive and powerful corporate entity is the Weyland-Yutani Company, a 22nd-century version of the British East India Company of the 17th- to 19th-centuries. It is a multinational conglomerate involved in robotics, interstellar transport and terraforming with a stake in every colony world. The Company is the TRUE VILLAIN of the Alien universe. Ash and Burke were following a secret corporate mandate to obtain a xenomorph specimen in order to profit from research and weaponization. In the "AvP" films, you actually meet the company founders before their merger, Mr. Weyland and Ms. Yutani. The colonists who venture beyond the compound like Newt's parents are prospectors who can lay a claim to any discovery they make. The Company would get a large percentage of the find but the colonist would own a piece. A valuable ore would mean a fortune! After Burke heard Ripley's story, he contacted the colony boss to dispatch someone to the coordinates Ripley had indicated in her report with no warning of danger. He must have done a little digging and found out about the Company Directive to investigate any possible sign of intelligent life and to bring back a specimen. He sent Newt's family straight to the derelict ship. Some trivia: The picture of Ripley's elderly daughter in the Special Edition is actually Sigourney Weaver's real-life mother! The late Al Matthews, who played Sgt. Apone, was a true-blue Marine who was the first black man to be promoted to Sergeant in the Corps during his service in Vietnam! The knife-trick scene was originally supposed to be performed by Lance Henriksen alone but he convinced director James Cameron to surprise Bill Paxton by involving him as they shot the scene! Paxton's wide-eyed terror is completely real! Fan favorite Vasquez is played by non-Hispanic Jenette Goldstein! She goes out like a warrior and enables Gorman to reclaim his honor. Ms. Goldstein now is the proprietress of a Los Angeles-based boutique that specializes in bespoke large-size bras! The motto of her company is, "At Jenette's, the alphabet begins with 'D'."! Bishop's programming to not harm humans or allow them to come to harm through inaction is ripped straight from Isaac Asimov's Three Laws of Robotics! Carrie Henn, who played Newt, never acted again but became a schoolteacher. She still maintains a correspondence relationship with Sigourney Weaver thirty-four years later. The late Bill Paxton, who has the distinction of being attacked on screen by an Alien, a Terminator and a Predator, will NEVER be forgotten for his reading of the line, "Why don't you put HER in charge?", referring to little Newt in her oversized helmet. Lol. "ALIEN 3" is a DIVISIVE film but it's an EXCELLENT entry in the series. ABSOLUTELY SEE IT!!! Many will try to dissuade you but it is ESSENTIAL VIEWING! It's directed by David Fincher and features Charles Dance and Charles Dutton. It's brutal, fast-paced, has a solid cast, has some extraordinary scares, provides new insight into the creature, presents a fascinating dilemma and concludes the trilogy elegantly. I strongly encourage you NOT TO SKIP IT! Make sure you see the ASSEMBLY CUT (Special Edition with longer runtime). "Alien Resurrection" is the optional one because it's a hot mess except for one cool aquatic sequence. The ambitious prequels, "Prometheus" and "Covenant", mark director Ridley Scott's return to the series but they are mostly good JUST for Michael Fassbender's performances. Scott demystifies the creature and unsatisfyingly attempts to address who the elephant-headed pilot of the derelict spacecraft was. I remember when I saw this movie with one of my friends. She was stuck on Bishop's character. After the movie was over, she turned to me and asked rather candidly, "I wonder...is it possible to screw an android in their universe?" I spit out my drink. I had no words. Just the shocked Pikachu meme all over my face.
