@@nicholassmith7984 Details like that are exactly what the point of the movie is. It's a war between white people, so you'd think you'd be able to send any ol' spy there as long as they know the language. Not so. There's way more to it than just that. There's also other things in that scene that would've gotten him too. For the card game, Hickox wrote "GW Pabst", the same director that he mentioned prior, implying that his knowledge of Germany doesn't extend very far past German movies. On his forehead, what Hellstrom wrote, is Brigitte Horney, a German actress best known for a movie that came out in 1943, which Hickox wouldn't know at all.

It was also something of a minor miracle; Til Schweiger ( Hugo Stiglitz), refused the role, initially. It wasn't until Tarantino described what the role entailed that he agreed. In the scene where Christoph strangles Diane Kruger, Tarantino insisted the strangulation be real for the close-up otherwise it would be quite obvious she wasn't really being strangled or in distress. Diane agreed to be strangled for real on one condition, that Tarantino did it himself.

I still don't understand this movie, technical aspects are great, well acted, the little story is working, ... But everything is a performance, it feels like a comic or a cartoon. All these grotesque elements happening during a tragic period is really strange to me. If it's a satire, it fails and I don't think Tarantino is the right guy for that, considering his tropes.

When Diane Kruger was getting chocked out by Hans Landa, (not-so-fun-fact): Quentin Tarantino insisted that she really experience it. When they show the close up of her face those are his hands (not Christoph Waltz), and they did it just up to the point where here reaction is genuine panic/distress. So, in a sense she isn't really "acting".
