As someone who grew up with Spider-Man comics, the Raimi films were never my first introduction to the character unlike some people and so I was never as emotionally attached to that version and I can't say a particularly cared for Tobey Maguire in the world or Kirsten Dunst as MJ. I much more preferred Andrew Garfield and Emma Stone as Gwen Stacy. To this day there has not been a live action Spider-Man who is the voice actually makes me think of the characters speech bubbles in the comics like he did. I'm also really glad they went with the traditional web-shooters because it one of the most famous parts of the character and really showcases his intelligence.

I really wish they had kept a lot of Connors' deleted scenes in the final film because they really helped humanize him a lot and that they also had included his family especially his son Billy which is a major part of the character in the comics and it always bothered me that they weren't included in the film.

Much of this film is shot in dark lighting with strong contrasting edge light, it makes the cgi look waaaay better, it feels/looks more tangible, for me this is the best vfx on a Spider-Man film w/ equally great cinematography

Peter Parker grows throughout the times, in 2002, he was the dorky nerd loner. In 2012, he was the loser skater secret genius. In 2016, he’s a socially anxious social butterfly. Whatever the teenagers of that time are like, he’s one of them. A lot of people don’t understand that about these movies.

I wish you'd left in Emma Stone's reaction at the end when Peter said, "Yeah, but those are the best kind." Her attempting to stay stoic and upset cracked, and she tried to go back to stoic, but she cracked totally. I thought that was really well done. For me, Emma Stone made this movie because Gwen was a willful, brilliant young woman, not someone who needed to be rescued. Two other scenes I loved were the one in the hallway at the school where she said machine gun-like "Yeah, either one," and her on the balcony outside her family's apartment where she turned and chuckled at Peter. I often wonder if she just threw that in there. Her performance had me totally entranced. To your credit, you left in, "Oh I'm in trouble." :)

The late great James Horner absolutely killed it with his Spider-Man theme, it sounds inspiring, hopeful, and make you picture in your head what it feels like to swing through NYC. It’s especially powerful in the scene when all of the New York construction workers use the cranes to help Spider-Man reach Oscorp. It shows how New York absolutely backs their heroes.

The reason why the original trilogy and TASM1 were memorable, was because of the producer LAURA ZISKIN It was because of her and her husband (the screenwriter Alvin Sargent) that the movies had depth She was the only one capable to tell AVI ARAD when to back off Unfortunately, she died in 2011, during the production of TASM1 Without her, there was no one to stop Arad from destroying the franchise Spiderman was nothing without her

Andrew Garfield is the best Spider-Man out of the three. He was born to play this role. The original plan was to redo the whole Spider-Man movies reset from the original Spider-Man Trilogy starring Tony Maguire. I am glad they decided to have three variants of Spider-Man from different worlds in the Multi-Verse.

Nice reaction - lanky Garfield looks just like the original Steve Ditko version in the comics, and he and Stone have lovely chemistry - this version is much more grounded - and it's plausible how he'd invent those web-shooters, as in the comics, and also why he'd get those specific powers, in parallel to Lizard - but my favorite is still Raimi's trilogy; more comic booky, and it seems truer to the notion of Peter as that random down on his luck everyman we see in ourselves - also, why didn't the Lizard have a snout?! Now how will we distinguish him from Scorpion?! @#$%!!! lol

Oh yeah Peters parents aren't really explored much in the comics. In Marvel's mainline continuity (Earth-616) Peters parents were CIA Agent with his father being recruited to the CIA by Nick Fury himself. That's where Richard Parker met Peters mother and the both kind of went on missions together in the vein of James Bond or True Lies until being killed by Red Skull when he had there plane sabotaged killing both Richard and Mary. In the 2000s Marvel created the Ultimate Universe (Earth-1610) a modernized re-imagined new continuity that allowed Marvel to start with younger fresh versions of their classic channels, beginning with Spider-Man in the year 2000. Here Peters parents were Bio Scientists who came together with Nick Fury and Shield in trying to re-create the Super Solider Serum alongside Bruce Banner. Bruce tested it on himself turning into the Hulk and actually hurting both Richard and Mary but they survived, all happening a good 14 years before Peter became Spider-Man. Richard gets involved in creating a self healing suit known as "Project Venom" sometime after Peter was born, Trask gets involved taking the project away, Richard and Mary go to court but in the end Trask has there plan sabotaged and they both die in the plane crash. So for this film they pull more from the Ultimate Universe, Oscorp being involved with the creation of the Spiders that gave Peter his powers also pulls from the Ultimate Universe as well. Gwen being in High School with Peter is something used in the Ultimate Comics as well, Mainline comics Gwen wasn't introduced until Peter went to College. But the idea of Gwen being Peter's first girlfriend is pulled from the mainline comics as Peter actually dated Gwen first and then later MJ. In the Ultimate Universe Peter dated MJ first so it's a mix of both with a few origin takes thrown in.

Andrew Garfield and Emma Stone were dating, or starting to date, around these films production so that probably helps to sell their relationship onscreen to feel way more natural. The big plus is that she never fully turns into a damsel in distress captured by the villain which was a consistent negative of the Raimi movies. By the third film when MJ got captured again you start asking "does it really matter the secret identity if the villain always finds out and kidnap MJ anyway?"

As much problems as the second one has, and they are many, this first iteration really is amazing, pun intended. Andrew Garfield has a great performance as Peter, and the chemistry he and Emma have is still unmatched. They changed a few things from the establishing lore, but i was cool with it. Over all, I really like it. And in the hierarchy of all Spider-Man movies this, to me, is still in top 5.

In the two different Spider Man franchises where we see his origin story (Spider Man & The Amazing Spider Man) we always see him has difficulty with his hands sticking to things when he doesn't want them to. With Tobey, it was the paper banner on the side of the bus, and in this one it was the girls sweater on the subway....The funny thing is, it's NEVER explained how he can climb the walls with his suit on...I mean, his bare hands aren't even touching the wall...they're covered. Imma be honest and say Ben’s death was so stupid and unnecessary, the guy was running away and dropped his gun. He wasn’t trying to rob uncle Ben like in the Tobey McGuire version where he was getting carjacked, Ben could’ve easily stepped aside and mind his own business especially since the dude already had his hands on the gun, I always laugh at this scene when I shouldn’t be lol

If there wasn't Amazing Spider-Man 2 this version would have been way more memorable. Andrew Garfield is alright, the director Marc Webb is clearly better at portraying the relationship with Gwen than Raimi was with MJ. I never cared about the parents part though because I always thought it doesn't really add anything positive, it only makes his origin unnecessarily convoluted. As the first film it works but doesn't have that punch I felt on Spider-Man 1 and 2. If it stayed like this it would be a fine series but post Avengers, Sony got greedy to build it's own cinematic universe and shoved every possible villain into it on the second film and suffocated the story.
