He manages to be the wild card every time, he steals the scene with his comic relief while not losing that threatening psychotic feel, and the way he interacted with every character in this movie was perfect. I am so happy you guys finally checked this masterpiece out. Jason Todd was the second Robin after Dick left to become his own man and become the leader of the Teen Titans. Whereas *Dick Grayson was Batman's Greatest Success, Jason Todd was Batman's Greatest Failure.* Jason Todd was perhaps the Robin that sadly suffered the most and maybe the most interesting member of the Batfamily as he grew up on the streets after having a deadbeat, abusive father killed by Two-Face and a drug addicted mother who abandoned him and sold him out as Robin to Joker. What is truly tragic about Jason's death in the original Death in the Family comic is that Jason's death was determined by the fans of the comics. Fans had the choice to call in and vote whether Jason stayed dead or survived the explosion. At the time, many people hated Jason for how he originally was written as a Dick Grayson replacement, even though he would've been retconned to have his own identity. But even despite that, Jason's fate was sealed, and as such, Jason was brutally killed and remained dead for decades until he was brought back into comics and reintroduced as Red Hood. Jensen Ackles gives an outstanding voice performance as Red Hood, as you understand where he is coming from and how he makes incredibly valid points that not even Batman can truly justify. What I really love about Jason's descent as Robin is how he doesn't blame Bruce for his death; in fact, he genuinely understands that it wasn't Bruce's fault for what happened to him and defends him in a fight; however, Jason ultimately cannot forgive him for letting the Joker live for so long. Joker has brought nothing but death and misery to others, including Batman and his family, like how he murdered Jason and paralysed Barbara. Even though Batman's code refuses to kill him because he'll lose his humanity and self-control, even then, it still doesn't change the fact that countless still suffer and die, so in the end, so Jason sought to prove to Batman his method doesn't work, some criminals won't always fear him so those criminals need to die if they are incapable of changing, and for the criminals who are afraid, they can still be controlled, and manipulated as Jason does with Black Mask's criminals orginisation By the way, John Dimaggio is INSANELY underrated as the voice of the Joker in this movie. He gives such a twisted yet hilarious performance as a more sinister and creepy Joker. 10:22 that's part of Joker's "origin" per the comics. He was originally just a no name guy who (depending on the writer), is either suckered into putting on the Red Hood costume, or was already active as Red Hood during Batman's early days as a crime fighter. What is consistent is this: one night during a botched robbery of Ace Chemicals, Red Hood runs into Batman and in trying to escape/convince Batman it's a setup, he falls into a vat of chemical sludge. After swimming through a pipe that empties into a holding lagoon outside, he emerges from the muck tranformed. Hair dyed green, skin bleached white and lips pulled back into a permant smile. Which leads to the immediate snapping of his mind, and the Joker is born.

I say this without any shred of irony, this is my ALL-TIME favorite Batman film. It captures the moral challenges Bruce puts upon himself and the consequences they yield so well. It is a fantastic example of tragic storytelling, and the performances of the entire cast shines so brightly here; DiMaggio is underrated as the Joker, and this is probably my favorite interpretation of the character after Hamill.

Richard becomes Nightwing because he wanted to be his own man and didn't want to live forever in Batman's shadow and also founded The Titans with other sidekicks that wanted to find independence; Lance dies as Robin on his mission to avenge his adoptive brother Richard, who was injured at the time. Jason becomes Red Hood to own that identity and use it to take revenge on Batman and the Joker (this movie handles things a bit differently); Timothy becomes the Red Robin after Dick Grayson chose Damian Wayne as his Robin, when h e briefly took over the Batman identity (Bruce was thought to be death) and so reinvented himself as the Red Hood; Damian should still be Robin.

@@GreysDen A pre-"Crisis on Infinite Earths" character. Lance Bruner was the orphan of one of Thomas Wayne's friend. When this friend died, Bruce Wayne adopted his son, Lance, and become Dick's adoptive brother; the reason being that Thomas promised to take care of Lance if anything happened to his father AND because Lance was a delinquent and Bruce took him to respect that promise and to keep him from being sent to juvenile detention. Basically Lance was the original Jason, always testing Bruce's patience, but he mostly wanted to be sent to juvenile detention so that he would not be with Bruce anymore and do what he wanted... all of this because his father neglected him and didn't want a new father (the mother died when he was two and the father so always away because of work). Once Bruce learned all of this, he tried to put him straight and had him work for charity and give a hand to Alfred, but Lance didn't like it at all and in an attempt to make him pay (I know, so cruel of Bruce) he discovered the Batcave and learned the truth. So, does he become Robin then? No. He uses that info to make a deal with Grantland Stark, a criminal, basically monitoring and snitching whenever Bruce and Dick are around as Batman and Robin, so the guy can continue committing crimes, Batman doesn't interfere and Lance takes a cut. This backfires because Grantland uses the info to track them and tries to shoot Batman, but Robin gets in the way and gets shot (but doesn't die). Realizing his mistake, Lance takes his brother's Robin suit and tries to avenge him, tracks Grantland, jumps on him, but is shot to the stomach and dies in Batman's arms, after Grantland is incapacitated. In his last moment, Lance reconciled with Bruce and Bruce learns the lesson that despite his best efforts to see the best in people, it can sometimes be too late for them to see the best in themselves.

It's really crazy that Jason's death was Batman's biggest failure, and it's all the fans fault for why Batman failed. As far as i remember, the story was that Jason as Robin was not as interesting as Grayson, or the comics with him and Batman didn't sell like when Grayson was Robin, and this fan vote was organized, as Jason gets caught in the next comic book story, and the fans choose whether Batman saves Jason, or Batman fails to save him and Jason dies, and the fans chose Jason to die. Otherwise Batman would be there in time, and would have succeeded, if the fans had not interfered.

I think they did hint at it. Look at the way Bruce was treating Grayson. He got tired of being in the Bat's shadow, and tired of the way Bruce treated him, and he left. It took awhile for Bruce and Dick to be on good terms, post-nightwing.

If I recall, Jason Todd originally was not popular in the comics and in one issue right before the bomb explosion scene, they had a call in to vote if Jason should live or die. Well, he did not get to live by 72 votes and we got the infamous Death in the Family cover of Batman holding Jason's body. This was 1988. He was brought back in 2005 as the Red Hood with the Under the Red Hood comic.

If you're at all curious, there have been 4 main Robins and 2 lesser known Robins. Dick was the first, and he becomes Nightwing. Jason is 2nd and he becomes Red Hood. Tim was 3rd, with him becoming Red Robin. And Damian (Batman's biological son) is 4th and the current Robin. Stephanie Brown (Spoiler/Batgirl #3) was also Robin for a little while. And Carrie Kelly is Robin in the Dark Knight comic/animated movies Barbara Gordon, Stephanie brown and Cassandra Cain are the 3 Batgirls, with Kate Kane being Batwoman (She's Batman's cousin). Then there's a newer BatFam member named Duke (The Signal). Harper Row is also another member of the BatFam (Blue Bird). Catwoman and Jim Gordon are also usually lumped into the BatFam, especially since Jim actually controlled a robot Batman for a bit while Bruce had amnesia. And then of course there's Ace, the bat hound. A dog that Batman named after a little girl "villain" who died of an illness

This was a very comic accurate depiction. Jason with the tire iron, the duffel bag scene, the tour of Batman’s greatest failures. This was also one of the first time a major character was resurrected in comics. It’s so common now that everyone always forgets how much that impacted the story.

I recommend watching the 4 films: Son of Batman, Batman vs Robin, Batman: Bad Blood and lastly Batman: Hush. The Hush movie is one of my favorites that shows Batman relationships with different characters including the other main character Catwoman. Batman Bad Blood I was a mix about that one. Overall, the movies will be great to watch through.

This movie was my very first exposure to Red Hood/Jason Todd and he immigrated became one of my favorite characters of all time. He is the perfect combination of The Batman and The Punisher. But what makes me love him as a character is that unlike other characters in his situation where they would blame Batman for not saving him he actually forgives him, but doesn’t forgive him for keeping Joker alive. He has amazing control over his rage and doesn’t let it corrupt him. This is who he has always been, he’s an equalizer.

The reason Dick leaves Batman is because he started to grow into his own man. He was becoming a young adult, and began spending time away from Bruce with the Teen Titans alot. Eventually he leaves the nest and takes on the mantle of Nightwing

I still love this movie, Jensen Ackles does a great as Red Hood, Bruce Greenwood's good and would later go on to voice him in Young Justice, John DiMaggio does a Surprising job as The Joker, a surprise Neil Patrick Harris as Nightwing, and Jason Isaacs does great as Ra's al Ghul
