I am doing this poem for a (school) competition this year, simply because I’m so tired of adults not doing anything. I am scared for my own life at school because of the uprise in school shootings. It’s my worst fear. I have MULTIPLE plans for any place I could be during a shooting for how to get out. There is so much I could say, but I hope that one day I can feel ok going to school and not fearing that I will die that day. My prayers go to any and all survivors, victims, and loved ones of the victims of school shootings. Stay safe yall.

I’m scared of school shootings. It’s one of my biggest fears. Not only me dying, but all of my friends. Even if I was 100% safe I’d still be scared for my friends. I’m scared of texting the friends who’s numbers I have a getting no answer. I’m scared of seeing on the news, “This many children were killed, this many teachers were killed. Here’s who died:” and they all be someone I’m friends with, or that one kid I saw in the hall laughing with his friends, or that group of kids who would sing Burger King ads all the way to lunch, or that one acquaintance that gave me a pencil, or that one kid that sent me a death threat, or that one teacher that was an absolute female dog to me. I don’t want them to die. I don’t want anyone to die. I don’t want to go to the bathroom in the middle of class and be stuck in there- that’s why I hate going to the bathroom at school. Especially the bathroom in the main hall. It’s right outside of the lunchroom with two or three stalls, easy to check, not easy to run from. I don’t want to text my friends and family final goodbyes. I already know what I’d text to them. To my parents? Hi! I’m at lunch right now and I just wanted to tell you a few things. I’m sorry for all the things you had to put up with from me. Know that I love you so, so much. Thank you for being amazing parents to my sister and I. We are blessed to have you. :) To my friends that I have the numbers of? Hi. This is an awful situation we’re in and I just want to tell you guys that no matter any disagreements or issues we have, I love y’all to pieces. I wouldn’t be where I am now if it wasn’t for y’all. To my best friend? Hi, (name). If I don’t make it, I want you to know that you have me a lot of hope and I hope I did the same for you. I love you, and I want you to live a full, happy life if I’m gone. (Then I’d confess my feelings for her and apologize for never telling her all this time even though she had admitted hers) I’d also text my cousins to tell my dad’s side of the family I love them and my grandma to tell my mom’s side of the family I love them. We shouldn’t have to think about these things. We shouldn’t have to be scared to go to the bathroom. We shouldn’t look around the room for the nearest defense items and escape routes if the one we had all practiced is blocked, just in case it happens. We shouldn’t make jokes about American public schools with the song Pumped Up Kicks in the background, the video saying, “American public schools vibing to this song:” The nearby high school had a shooting threat a few months ago. My friend’s sister goes there along with many other innocent kids. This world is cruel and I’m freaking sick of it.

My biggest fear is school shootings. Not just for myself but my friends even if im safe i will worry abt them. My siblings theyvare all still in school. I would text them asking if they where ok but i wouldn't in fear that if i did there phone would go off and alert the shooter where they are so i will just sit there hoping that they are ok and hoping they are alive. My mom, she is a teacher. She dose the drill shes knows the possibility she knows what to do. But does that make her safe. You can not plan for every possibility ever little thing can trigger soemthung else. I should not have tp go to school worring that i might not make it home. Or even wores that i make it home while my friends dont. I shouldnt have to go to school woreing that that moring was the last moring i saw one of my siblings or that the night before was the last time i would have called one of them. I shouldnt have to go to school worring abt if i will ever see someone again, worring that i might lose a friend or a sibling.

What? That we actually speak up about what happens? Sorry that you prefer to stay thinking about unicorns and rainbows but we actually like to prepare for real life. I’m shaking from this comment. What exactly is wrong with expressing things in a non violent way? I guess hiding our feelings until we blow up is the only way you’ve learned to cope, but we’re learning from your generations f ups.

@@SupermarketSam374 Thank you for the laugh. More funny on who you blame. And by your comment I’m guessing your young and think elders ruined your world but maybe in a few years you’ll understand my comment. I could of agreed with them. I could of said it feeling sad for them. Sometimes I forget that people here can be 5 years old or 100 and vast majority read comments and see them For what they think they mean and not what they are.

@@mikek3951 I’m sorry, what about “I understand what’s wrong with youth” is positive, or not mean. This is a video of young women doing amazing poetry, and you had to bring negativity into it. Tell me one way your comment is positive. Because as far as I see it, this is unacceptable.
