The Mei Mei stuff is supposed to be gross. She's a despicable character, and she manipulates and grooms her brother to make herself more powerful and keep her safe in battle (he's pledged to only use his abilities when she gives him permission, which basically turns him into one of her tools, functionally). It's not "this is fine" it's "this is how she got her brother simping for her." She also serves to contrast another character named Nanami who was genuinely a good person working as a sorcerer, and as a result of his selflessness, he died a painful death. Her selfish, nasty ass got to use her little brother's technique to get out of dodge and go chill in Malaysia.

The scene of Mei Mei in bed with her brother has an actual purpose, you were disgusted by the scene and that was the whole point. Nanami and Mei Mei are both Grade 1 Sorcerers with EXACT contrasts between each other. In this scene, Mei Mei was specifically in Kuala Lumpur, in Malaysia which is WHERE Nanami ALWAYS wanted to dream of going but never got the chance to, and he died brutally and unfairly. Nanami was a kind man who ALWAYS want to protect his friends and comrades ever since 10 years ago, he saw his bestfriend, Haibara dead during a mission. Nanami is the embodiment of what all humans should be. Mei Mei is the exact opposite, she only cares about MONEY, she is selfish, she left her comrades behind in Shibuya and will never come back to help. She’s using and manipulating her own younger brother for her OWN use. Anime can truly be weird sometimes but not have a true purpose, just a comedy effect. This one of the other hand was true meaning and purpose

And alot of people are going to try excuse it and say it's a plot device to reveal how disgusting Mei Mei is. It's not necessary. There are plenty of other things that you could do to show that. As a matter of fact, later in that scene, they do something that shows that. She says, pull all my stock out of Japan. That shit about to be gone. Instead of trying to figure out how to save Japan she just like f***** that s*** dipped. Took her money and is about to go to some beach go on retirement. You don't have to use incest, especially not depicted this way, to get that point across. Like... I like Berserk and that is twisted s***. But you know what? They don't treat it as if it's a bit of a comedy thing. They don't let you enjoy it as fan service. They treat sexual assault with the gravity of the feeling of any survivor. A huge part of the entire storyline is coping and struggling through the after effects of sexual assault, especially with people who are assaulted as young children. The main character doesn't like being touched and he is a huge piece of a man but because when he was six years old his father sold him and his ass to a whole mercenary camp. Compare that to this. No matter what excuse is use this is fan service. And it's one of the creepiest forms of fan service that are extremely fucking common in manga and anime. I say that as a Manga and Anime fan.
