Few things harder than cultivating a meaningful relationship. Think the best sign is when it feels natural and organic from the start. If you have to work too hard, sacrifice too much, find yourself ignoring obvious red flags, and sometimes contorting yourself in the hope the other person will change, then there’s a good chance you’re not with the right person. I think we all know the ecstasy of that first flirtatious glance and the feeling of closeness, safety and pure joy when you’re with someone you trust and love. Those feelings need to be there fairly early on in a relationship. Shouldn’t require that much chasing. When it’s right you just know it. I wish us all boundless love.

I have a lot of sympathy for people who are not sure whether they're ready for a relationship--I myself was quite hesitant at the beginning of my relationship with my boyfriend. That being said, if you're looking for 'signs' someone is definitely ready, they should be pretty obvious. My boyfriend told me on the second date that he really liked me, he made a mid-week date happen after our first because he was going to be out of town the next weekend, we met each other's friends early on, like a month in he told me he saw a future with us, and then two months in he asked me to be his girlfriend (as opposed to leaving the status unclear). I met his family three months in and he was excited when the opportunity came to meet mine.
@Meg.11222 жыл бұрын
Are you still together? I had a guy that told me he saw a future with me, which freaked me out, and not because I didn't want to -actually that was sweet and undexpected-, but it was because of my anxiety and fear of abandoment that I reacted that way. I right now thinking if it was really my anxiety/abandoment fear that hold me back to be with him or maybe I was just not ready. Anyway, hope you're still together, he sounds like he's a keeper.
@JM-yh9pd Жыл бұрын
@@Meg.1122 Yes we are! We’ve been together about a year and a half. I have some extreme abandonment trauma, like truly, so I get where you’re coming from. Honestly, it was very uncomfortable emotional work at first to learn to trust him, and sometimes it still comes up, but now we’re built so much trust that I know I can tell him when I need some reassurance, and he’ll give it to me. I don’t have to pull away. It only hurts both of us when I do that instead of communicating.
@lc49722 жыл бұрын
Had a guy do most of these. Even after telling me on the first date that he wanted somthing serious. After every weekend and a few complete weeks spent together for 5.5 months, he told me that he was just seeing what kind of relationship he could have and that he had no feelings for me. Essentially, I was his lab rat. But our friends met each other, we did lots of social events together, we hosted parties together, etc. Like I said most of what is mentioned in this video, including changing the temperature of his house for me. When I asked why he would do all that for someone he had no feelings for, he said he was trying to be a good partner. You better believe I walked. Got right back out there too. After previously being in a narcissistic relationship for almost 15 years, I've made a promise to myself to never stay if it's not healthy. And being with someone who has no feelings for you is not healthy. BTW, as I walked out the door, he voluntarily admitted that he had married a previous wife just to see if he could get her. 🙃🙄🥴🤯

Asked him why he would tell me he wanted a serious relationship in the beginning. He said being with me helped him realize that he was mistaken and only wanted a casual relationship. He did say it wasn't intentional, but I think it was. If I had never brought it up, he would've let me continue until who knows when, knowing he had no feelings for me. Honestly, it's incredibly rare for a guy to be showing all these signs within 5 months... unless he's lovebombing. Lovebombers will do all the right things right from the start until they either get bored, gain control, find someone who better fits their wants or avoidance attachment rears it's head. Then, they drop you as quickly as they seemed to commit, often moving on at lightening speed. From where I'm sitting, you likely dodged one heck of a bullet & possibly years of trauma with that one.

Met a girl online, we clicked almost immediately, I tried my best to do all of these as it felt right, there was a miscommunication on one aspect - talking about exes/previous experiences - but I got carried away with my stories due to insecurity about my lack of experience, so this ruined the great connection we had online for a month. I tried fixing it and she said she liked me but she could no longer see me as a potential partner after what I shared. We were talking day and night and were about to meet up next month and then it all went downhill from there just because of that. I'm still not over it as I thought she might turn out to be the one for me, while she already posted a story with another guy a few days after it all ended. This just goes to show how expendable I am and that she doesn't deserve my energy anymore. I'm tired of trying to find someone, I think I might be better off alone as I've always been. It's a sad state to be in, but once I come to terms with it, it's one of peace.

I am grateful for the contribution that you’ve made to my journey of personal development and the tools that you have given me to love on myself, as well as confirming that I’m headed in the right direction to a romantic partnership. I’m in no hurry to attain the outcome, but enjoying the process as it unfolds for me. His patience, effort, devotion, and respect for my standards and boundaries, makes me feel safe and cherished. It is incredibly magnetic and healing! I want to spoil him in a similar way, inspired by my own creativity. He is my muse. It makes my relationships of the past worthwhile, because they are like the milestones on a map, leading me to treasure.

We texted at the beginning of the week and the topic came to Friday evening. He was all vague and "yeah let's see closer to Friday if there is something fun to be done" instant turn off for me. I literally wrote back "do you really think I'm going to be waiting around all week, just to see if you have no better plans than to hang out with me?" I never saw him again. I like thinking back to that moment, because when I met my now husband, none of these games were even an issue. It was easy from the start and almost 9 years in it's still easy.

I'm crying I can't wait to find my person, all these things are my new standard. My ex and I recently broke up and he did the exact opposite of ALL the things listed instead.

I love your #1. I love when a guy doesn't this, but I didn't realize how important it was to me or how secure it made me feel until someone actually did it for me. This might just be included in my standards now 😎.

I am very sad to say I am absolutely skeptical a man could ever do all the things you mentioned for a woman.
@drunkencitizen61682 жыл бұрын
Are women capable of doing the female equivalent of this for a man? Probably the same answer.
@deliapasqualini9702 жыл бұрын
@@drunkencitizen6168 I guess women are more likely to do this than men

I like this guy, we've become friends. My ex husband asked me to take my kids to see him a 12 hour drive away, which is about 2 days closer in travel than he lives. I mentioned that I hoped I could find someone that would come with me so I didn't have to drive alone. Within a week he told me he could come with me, and we've been making plans for driving down ever since. And it's still several weeks away. We aren't yet together, but it does seem like the liking is mutual

“ why so many audience members ask me that men these days won’t seem to want to commit “ - not to sound condescending in any way - this could be due to sample bias. The people who have found the the men who will commit are in a serious relationship now, and are a lot likely to become Matthew’s audience. The people who are actively seeking help are the people that are struggling. There are plenty of good men out there , you just need to learn to 1) become great women yourselves 2) know how to identify them. But also , just love yourself - even if you don’t find a man you can still live a fulfilled life !

It is not just men who won't commit. Women too. And I can relate to.this post of yours. Because for 15 years now my relatives, parents, grandmas asks the same thing with added salt. Its not that we don't want to commit it is just that we just don't see the point esp if one is not deserving of us.

1. He brags about you infront of other people : check 2. He's willing to mix your lives in a way that might be inconvenient to him : no 3. Your happiness becomes more important to him than his tastes : no 4. He's willing to adjust the temperature of his house : no 5. He plans a trip with you months in advance 3:06 : some 6. He respects the things that are important to you : some 7. The fights have less ultimatums : no 8. He's less affected by his friends' teasing : maybe 9. He stops worrying so much about "Fear of Missing Out" : never 10. He starts collecting momentos that tell your story : check 11. His associations with commitment itself change : some well.. not sure my ex was serious about me.. we tried to marry but broke up 3 months ago. It wan't healthy relationship but still hurt..

I wish I had watched more videos like this BEFORE i started online dating. Since getting divorced seven years ago...here I am still single and just burned out. I think I put too much effort into the wrong relationships (meeting interesting but unavailable guys online), and I'm jaded/ lost. I have probably turned down many more appropriate people, but I'm afraid of caring and trusting again.

Hi Matthew, thanks for sharing that. A lot men have first to lose the person they with to understand how important this person is in their life. They actually expierence the fear of missing the person during a break up. So I am curious about did you also find out her importance to you because you already have had the situation where you felt the anxiety of having lost the person? If not yet, how long has you spend time with her till you notice she has become the person you want to spend the rest of your life with? It is often a difficult situation for women that they are in, because as long as they are with the man, he won‘t have any pressure to make a commitment. Many men will delay it, sometimes it can take many years. This makes the woman feel more and more insecure in the relationship. Very often the relationship takes a negative turn even because the woman feels more and more stress in the lack of security. The men themselves don‘t see it as a problem. their justify it by saying they need that time to be sure and blame the woman for her „lack of patience“. But this reproach is not fair. Because sometimes you deal with a man who may not want a commitment per se. So he will keep as long as you can. You are going to waste your time, energy and another chance if you are being patient with this kind of man. But it is very difficult to know what is the real reason for his lack of commitment. If he is missing something of her qualities, she could improve herself. But if the reason was his own personality issues, then there’s nothing she can change. Many men claim they will settle down once they meet the right person. But I would also count many of them among those men who do not want a commitment. Because these men often have an unrealistic vision, or very high demands that are simply unrealistic. But at the same time, they are never willing to improve themselves in order of being a good partner in a longterm commitment. For example, some men believe that the right woman would never argue with him. Therefore, as soon as there is an argument between him and his partner, he immediately questions the whole relationship by asking whether there is a future for both. Some of these men are already 40+ or 50+ and still on the journey of finding the right woman
