New Thailand videos every Wednesday. Subscribe: / darrenb3 . Getting a Buddhist Blessing in Thailand. Some friends visiting me in Thailand wanted to get a Buddhist blessing done while they were here, so my wife and I took them to our local temple to get a blessing. Monks will do this at most temples throughout Thailand, this was at the Tiger Cave Temple in Krabi, Thailand.
It’s probably best to take a Thai person with you, so you can follow their actions, and also to avoid any language barriers. And you should take an offering of things that monks need. These include candles, incense, toilet paper, toothbrushes, toothpaste, disposable shavers, coffee, medicines, food; and a monetary donation in an envelope. It’s best to go in the morning, between about 9:00 and 10:30am, as the monks eat at around 11:00am. Thai people get blessings for many things: new houses, cars, babies, birthdays, new businesses, for happiness and good fortune, pretty much everything. It's an interesting way to experience Thai culture while your having Thailand holidays and it leaves you feeling nice :-)
Subscribe to my channel for more videos on what to do and what to eat in Thailand. New Thailand videos posted regularly about Thailand including Ao Nang and Krabi: Places to see, things to do, tours, Thai food, Thailand markets, Thai culture & festivals, Thai street food, Thai recipes, hotels, resorts, villas, restaurants, Thailand holidays, tourism, accommodation & Thailand travel.
Krabi is about 2-3 hours from Phuket by land or sea, and has world class accommodation standards comparable to what you find in Phuket hotels and resorts, but in a more relaxed environment.
If you're looking into Thailand Hotels have a look at hotels and resorts in Krabi. The islands and beaches of Krabi are famous for Thailand holidays, the movie The Beach was filmed on Krabi's Koh Phi Phi Island.

I began attending temples after spending four months in Chiang Mai Thailand and visiting temples there. Eventually went to temple and took Refuge in the Triple Gem and accepted the Five Precepts at a Khmer Krom Theravada Buddhist temple with the head monk. Then spent two months in Cambodia attending temples. Now back home in Canada. Had to have a quadruple cardiac bypass surgery. Can’t wait to get back to Cambodia and Thailand. Spend the rest of my life there. Studying Dhamma…..attending temples. I feel perfectly at home in Theravada Buddhism. Namo Buddhaya 🙏🏼 🙏🏼 🙏🏼 ☸️ 🇰🇭🇹🇭

Thank you Darren, this is just what I have been curious about. I have been practising Theravada Buddhist meditations since our trip in 2013. It has been very helpful in many ways. I no longer take anti-depressants or anti-anxiety medication. I look forward to our retirement in Thailand (this year). I'm also looking forward to having a blessing. Thanks for alleviating some of my uncertainty. I will take a Thai friend as well. I think you have a very loving family. Your little boy is always so well behaved; such a cute boy too.

+Barbara Zayac Thanks a lot, I'm glad the video was helpful. I don't know much about the topic but I believe there are numerous studies showing the physical and mental health benefits of meditation. There will be another video coming soon where we went to 9 temples for blessings, it's a Thai tradition, stay tuned for that one. I'm sure you'll enjoy living in Thailand, it's a great country. And thanks for the nice comments about my family, I love them to bits :)

I was raised as a Theravada Buddhist my parents are both Sri Lankan and it is interesting to see that the rituals are completely identical. I even seen videos where Thai monks follow a string ritual, we call it pirith nul. The rituals are exactly the same and the chanting seems to be in the exact same language, Pali.

Yes you are right even I found similarities of the chanting just the way of pronunciation of Pali is different. I am an Indian buddhist and we too use Pali for Vandana.

Nope .. can't really say .. I noticed it .. @ 4:00 mark .. they all(monks) smiling and content ... I think it was more like that Monk was trying to instruct the devotee ladies on left on what they should be doing. Obviously NO english ... so just point and point to get message across ..

Responding to Lone Wolf: Absolutely. That's what I noticed as well. Isn't it interesting how people perceive things about others? Maybe our own attitudes and character strengths and/or weaknesses are partially responsible for how we judge others.

These monks are not priests. Theravadan monks do not give "blessings" as priests do. They are chanting a teaching. If you understand and live by the teaching, you create your own "blessing". The chanting is in Pali, a dead language not used by Thai people. It is common even for Thai lay Buddhists to believe these chants are priestly blessings.
