+Son of Everything DC & Marvel Because they are, all these "Amazing" companies are known because of a flagship product. For instance Armani is known for Giorgio Armani italian made suits but most of the suits you get off the rack that are Armani are chinese made, the watches are crap; they run on batteries. I could go on and on, but hopefully you get the idea. It's just business.

Haha, not really. The tones were off, which is a common problem for people learning Chinese. Chinese people will actually mock you sometimes and ask you a question with every word ending in the 4th tone, because it's a common mistake made by foreigners. People learning Chinese - the tones are the most important part - don't leave it for later. Memorize the tones for every word, even if you have to go way slower. Chinese is a tonal language, so for example: "bi" (3rd tone) means "pen", but "bi" (first tone) means "cunt". Haha, not kidding. Learn the tones!!!

Thought I'd leave this here for anyone else still checking this place out. I just got back from ordering a suit from them which I'll pick up in a couple of days. Their English is good but I had a bit of trouble finding it because the video has a different name for the store so I'm leaving the details here. Chinese name: 上海新时代洋服 (Shanghai New Age Dress) Chinese Address: 深圳火车站罗湖商业城 (Luohu Commercial Railway Station Shenzhen) Shop Number: 5090 on 5th floor. Obviously can't comment on the quality of the suit yet but trusting it will turn out alright. Hopefully this helps some of you guys.

One thing I do remember when looking at fabric in China is the silk. I have not found silk quality here in the US that rivals Chinese silk. If you have a woman you want to make a silk dress for, it is over the top there and if you let some one local there negotiate, it is obscene how low the price can be for unbelievable quality.

Cool video man, was nice to watch. Funny to me as someone from a tailoring background that you choose a black suit and a shirt with a pocket. Shirts with pockets are seen as (blue collar) workwear and black suits are basically funerals or restaurant/hotel staff etc. attire. Not criticizing, you should wear what you like, that's the most important.

Another tip when wearing a suit correctly... Never button all the buttons... Always leave the bottom one unbuttoned. It's a class thing apparently and became vogue when one of the English King's got fat and couldn't button his bottom button so all the court copied him 😂😊😘😅🤣

Very interesting. I've just watched a few of your videos. Shenzhen reminds me of Hong Kong in the 80s. I assume Luo Hu is the same as Lo Wu in Cantonese. I remember seeing it on the map at the edge of the New Territories. I never went to China by train. I took the ferry to Guangzhou with my Chinese girlfriend (later my wife) in 1984 to see her Grandmother. That was a weird experience. I am 6'6" tall, which means I stand out in most places, but in China I was a real attraction. When my girlfriend left me on the street to go and get her grandmother, one young woman came up to me and started to talk to me (to practise her English, no doubt), while also eating fried rice from a polystyrene takeaway box. It wasn't very pleasant having someone spitting bits of rice at me. It was even less pleasant when a crowd of at least 200 crowded round to listen in. China seems a lot more sophisticated now. I like your videos. Keep up the good work.

@serpentza I enjoy your videos very much. You allow me to live vicariously through you & revisit my fond memories of traveling to Hong Kong & Shenzen a couple times while my ex-wife was there on business. Thanks for this video. Last time I was in Shenzen, none of those buildings were there. Nothing but a small road leading away from the train station/border crossing. Construction was madly underway but it was just the start. I think maybe that building with the round top that we got a glimpse of was there, but other than that it was like a third world country with little open shops & stands on either side of the road. Little brick, wood & tin shanties that people lived in along the way. It was like a slum with workers living in squalor while huge towers were about to spring from a few foundations in the ground. I remember a lovely park with a small lake a little way down & to the left if you were walking north away from the train station. Is that park still there? Oh yes, almost forgot to say when this was. It was not too terribly long ago. 1996 first visit & 1997 just after Hong Kong's turn over to China was the last visit. It is mind boggling to see how big & modern this city has become in just a couple decades. It really felt as though I had traveled back in time to China of the past compared to what Hong Kong was at the time. Some day if I am fortunate enough, I will return. I would love to live in Hong Kong. Maybe Stanley or the Mid-Levels, but It is a dream as I have no idea what I would do for work & it is extremely expensive now. Thanks again, cheers! I'm from Canada but at the time, lived in the USA when I visited there. Looking forward to your re-visit video of that area.

James Wang I understand, I usually associate them with movies set in China during the 20s to 40s, like "Lust, Caution" by Ang Lee. I think it has to do with my love of film noir. I don't much care for the earlier styles of Chinese clothes, the styles before the Republican Period, or large flowing kimonos like what shrine maidens wear in Japan.

Excellent price for a suit dude well done. I found a tailor in china in Shanghai near my University. Little hole in the wall place where I got tons of stuff tailored very quickly for almost nothing; I was floored how cheap it was. Getting 4 pairs of pants, 3 jackets and a few shirts made cost my about the same as getting 1 thing tailored here in America.

Depends on the purpose of the shirt. If it's for work you can have a pocket. If it's for more formal/non-work related use then a pocket is a bit of a faux pas. At least here in the Netherlands it is. Kind of like a black suite only being for funerals and waiters. How your belt should match the colour of your shoes(which is basically always black, because brown shoes are also considered a bit of a Faux Pas). And the tip of your tie should always be on your belt-buckle. To short is called a 'Bus driver' and too long is referred to as 'a Trump' or 'a president' recently.(Though that's really just among my direct peers). And of course you always leave the bottom button on your jacket undone.(Because some English King once got so fat that the bottom button on his jacket popped off and everyone promptly undid theirs to save the king some embarrassment. After which it became fashion.)

It is about the same price in Thailand. The quality is flawless. I am 6.5 feet tall 205 pounds. I had one silk dress suite and a wool gray business suits with 2 pants, 2 high quality shirts and two silk ties for $350 US. Everything was beautiful. I was dealing with a NON THIA SALESMAN. Big mistake. I will never do that again. Very slick guy who kept trying to up the price. It only took 3 days for the suites to be made. The final fitting was in my hotel room. When I went to pick up the suites before my flight. At the last minute they bagged them up for me. They took out the shirts and ties. Going to a non english speaking Thai tailor I would have received an even better price with no trickery. Most likely even better quality with slightly longer wait time.

Pretty cool. When buying any product or raw material at a source point you're going to save tons, often 90% or more. Rest gets added by various middlemen, shippers wholesalers distributors retailers etc. If it's $325 there I wouldn't be surprised if same quality would go for $1000-1500+ in Western retail shop. Clothing has some of highest mark-up of all goods.

During my nearly two decades in China, I must have had four suits tailor made. Every one of them was of excellent workmanship. The last time, I asked them to make the trousers bigger than my current size, and when they accidentally made them too small, they made me a second pair for free! My wife would buy fabric and design her own clothes and get them tailor made, and they were also very well done.

I remember my mum getting something made from a shop like this in Hong Kong. There are many tailors and barbers from shanghai in Hong Kong. Another way to get a bargain, is if the tailor is actually from Shanghai, you talk to them in shanghainese, they won’t rip you off that way because they think of you as one of them.

I got stuck in a fabric store with my wife in Shenzhen. I finally sat down and told her to do her thing while I waited. It is amazing how women love that sort of thing. BTW, why always black suits? A light colored fabric designed for the tropics would seem appropriate as well, and more comfortable. Of course my fashion sense is nil, so maybe that would be a faux pas, or wouldn't be the image you are trying to project.

While I hate it as well I found going to these fabric shops to be quite important especially once you have a basic knowledge of the fabric used for suits. Not only can it be cheaper but it will usually fit & look better depending on the fabric chosen.

In Shanghai we have the fabric market. There are hundreds of shops where they can make suits, so the competition is very high. A decend quality 3-piece tailor-made suit is around 800RMB

There are two places, i went to see a guy named Kyle if i remember correctly. The place was - The Dongmen Lu Fabric Market store 1F 147. Kyle is the person you will talk to, and his partner is the tailor. This is the address, i hope it's correct both in English and Mandarin. 168 Dongmen Lu, near Zhongshan Dong Er Lu 东门路168号, 近中山东二路 I got mine for 750 RMB and i got jacket, pants, vest and a shirt. I assume i could maybe bargain the price lower? hard to say i'm terrible at bargaining :D At least this is the place i went this February and i'm happy with my suit. :)

Are these suits made using premium Italian fabrics, full canvas floating, horse hair and all that fancy stuff for that price?
@dylanbigg8288

It is very unlikely that they are canvassed. They could absolutely use high quality fabric - that's not where most of the price in a good suit lies.

I had a cashmere Peacoat custom made here in Montreal for about 700CAD. The price difference if it were just plain wool was barely 100CAD less. So indeed, the fabric counts for a lot less than one would think. And custom is the way to go: much better fit, higher quality, your choice of fabric, for a just a bit more than a ready-to-wear piece of crap that needs to be fitted by... wait for it... a tailor! Oh, the irony.

2RMB for a train ride... what in the hell... Here in NYC... $2.50/ride and even with a monthly unlimited ($112) used 3x/day, still comes out to $1.25/ride!

It does not really go well when you compare a densely populated urban area with an entire country. For example Berlin has 73 % of the New York City area and you can get across, i.e. from Wannsee to Ahrensfelde, a distance of approx. 34 km / 21 miles, for 2.70 Euros / 2.88 USD. In rural areas outside of transport associations the price structure of course is different.

Last weekend tried the same in Shanghai: summer suit 750 and three shirts 500. Asked for Daniel Craig style grey, out comes the lookbook and she picked exactly what I wanted. Then tried a linen blazer at 580. Amazing but too tight so I will wait for the suit to check the quality. Then I can order other colours and get them sent. Seems a steal but I will go back and fetch them in a week. The price is the same as an HLA off the rack. If the suit is good I will never get a rack suit again. At this price, it is a joke. The fit and quality is a no brainer based on the samples I saw. I had no idea how good this would be..

Hi Serpentza. Nice videos man, the bikes, scams and everything...I enjoy watching the stuff. RecentIy I was in China, Beijing and Shanghai, for the first time and the country made a really big impression, I liked it a lot. Just out of curiosity - at 21:24 in this video you pass by a blue silk men jacket on a doll, right next to a grey woman coat. How much would you pay for the jacket? I bought something similar in Beijing and they charged me 700RMB. Was it a tourist price? :) The store was Tonys, right across the street of Silk Street shopping mall in Beijing. Cheers!
