Getting acquainted with my new ShopSmith - Lathe

Yup had an old Mark 5 given to me... Repairs were outrageous so I offset a motor to the drive spindle and used step pullies for speed control. It's Old and worn out just like me... LOL... Looking at a new Jet for its replacement but not there yet. It's not pretty but it works.

Looking good. Congratulations on you new Shopsmith. Keep the lathe chisels sharp, it makes a difference. If you are doing a lot of turning it might be worthwhile to make riser blocks to go under the legs to bring the spindle height up to the level of your elbows. If you don't have to bend over it is a lot easier on you back.
