I think something everyone should know before getting their braces on is to brush their teeth before their appointment because some orthodontist do not clean before adding the glue and brackets so this is good to do so there’s no plaque just sitting for years underneath the brackets

For beginners: 1. Be prepared to be patient for around 2 long years ( that helps in remembering why u started, remembering u need a perfect smile) 2.Dont panic braces won't hurt at all, the things that hurt are spacers (chill,they're put for only less than a week), the excess wire ( which can be treated with wax for a night then get it cut the very next day), extractions (can easily be managed by pain killers) 3. Be prepared with a strict dental hygiene routine from day 1 itself (ortho brush, proxy brushes, dental floss,dental thread, mouthwash and ofc a mirror in case u r out... All these are ur new friends btw. Tip: Carry a small mirror and mini proxy brush with u when u r outdoors to avoid embarrassment after eating, helps in quick clean. ATB👍🏻

This is my second time getting braces as an adult. The first time I was 27. I was very happy with how my teeth turned out the first time. The reason why I’m getting them again is because I lost my retainer and never replaced it thinking it would be fine. I’m now 53 and have a space between my two front teeth and a couple of others. Girls and boys, always wear your retainer and if you lose it, get a new one! It’s expensive but will be more expensive to get braces again! 😢

Don’t be! They’re honestly not that bad. Sure it may hurt for 2-3 days just have an ice pack on you and you’ll be fine also it will hurt a lot on the bottom so I would recommend to put a lot of ice there. Other than that you’ll be fine and you can eat ice cream for dinner.

I think a good tip for getting braces is to look into the doctor you’re going to before you go. I got my braces on when I was in middle school so it was up to my parents to decide which orthodontist to send me to, they chose the cheapest one they could afford understandably, but it ended up leading to me having years of reconstructive work after the braces. The ortho I went to spilled a lot of glue onto my teeth from my braces and after 4 years when I got them off, the ortho ended up drilling into my teeth to remove the glue and left them extremely crooked and with holes in some. After another 10 years of constant cavities and crowns from what that ortho did, I’m in my 20s with a full set of fake teeth all because my childhood orthodontist spilled some glue on my teeth :)

The first few days of me having braces was really a struggle. First was the problem about food, and it was painful and I felt a lot of discomfort. I couldn’t even bite through a marshmallow without feeling pain lol. But after a week or so, My teeth went back to its normal state and I was able to eat hard stuff again like meat and etc. If you’re one of the people who got braces but are regretting their decision (I’ve been there too haha), don’t. Cuz in the end, all the pains and discomforts are all gonna be worth it when you look in the mirror and see a beautiful smile.

you're allowed to feel insecure- everyone does at one point or another- but i think crooked teeth are beautiful! straight white teeth, sure, are aesthetically pleasing but i feel like there's so much more personality in an "imperfect" smile! you have nothing to be ashamed of, especially when you're smiling or laughing, you're happy, there's nothing wrong about that. But- if you want straight teeth that's absolutely your call! it's your body, your face- so do what you like and what makes you feel good!

I've been in braces for about 13 months now. One thing I would disagree with is when it was said that it gets easier with each passing adjustment. Nope. Some adjustments are easy, some adjustments are more uncomfortable. I was just put into class 2 Cheetah elastics and this has upped the discomfort substantially. Also, another thing I've noticed is that I can go weeks without feeling any discomfort but then a random tooth will just become really uncomfortable for about 24 hours or so. Then the pain may jump to another random tooth for 24 hours. The discomfort I feel reminds me of when a baby tooth was starting to come loose when I was a kid. You'll find yourself clenching your teeth to put pressure on the sore tooth to sort of "scratch the itch".

if you still cant get the wax to stick even when you dry your braces, i discovered there are different kinds of wax. There's one that's kind of plasticky and doesn't stick so well. It's more squishy. But there's one that's a bit more like moldable candle wax texture, and I found that one sticks a lot better.

You should not take ibuprofen for this sort of pain, only Tylenol/acetaminophen. Look it up

@@X11CHASE Ibuprofen can be safely taken prior to as well as Tylenol. Ibuprofen can slow down the movement of the teeth, but that's only if it's taken regularly. Once every three months prior to treatment is fine.

if you have swollen gums, use peroxyl mouthwash. after i got my braces on my gums swelled over the pegs on some of my brackets, meaning i couldn’t get elastics when i was supposed to and ultimately making my braces journey longer. peroxyl mouthwash helps with the swelling and heals any scratches or cuts you might have in your mouth as well due to the braces. :)

Load up on soft, healthy foods for the 1-3 days after your appointment..ice cream helps a lot! Mashed potatoes, yogurt, etc. I can’t eat red meat bc it irritates my gums & makes them “itch.” I am looking forward to a fat steak! Water pick is EVERYTHING!! I love it so much & plan on continuing to use it when my braces come off. Be patient!! It feels like foorever but you’ll have a beautiful smile that’ll last a lifetime!!

I think something everyone considering getting or getting braces/Invisalign is to make sure you're seeing a board-certified orthodontist. I had train track braces years ago, way back in 2006. I didn't know any better and I thought that it was normal to get your braces done at your dentist's office BY your dentist, as did my parents. It wasn't until I was 25 that I learned that my braces were done incorrectly because I didn't see a board-certified orthodontist. My dentist did the best he could with the knowledge he had, but in the end, my teeth weren't the best they could be. It is now 2023 and I'm getting Invisalign at the end of March and my orthodontist (who I was referred to by my new dentist) looked at my old acrylic retainers, which admittedly, I haven't worn in over a decade and he was very impressed that I still had them, and pointed out that work still needed to be done on my bottom teeth as they were still crowded even after my "completed" treatment. He also pointed out that the wire on the top retainer was actually keeping a gap open between my canines that shouldn't be there. Just remember, a dentist and an orthodontist are NOT the same! Orthodontists, specialize IN orthodontics!

I have braces for the past 8 months one thing that work wonders for braces cuts & lacerations is oral B mouth sore with hydrogen peroxide mouth wash is color blue I use it every day it works wonders because the peroxide heals your cuts faster highly recommended !!!

A lot of people say that the worst thing about braces are the bands that you get before the brace are put on to separate the teeth. But with me it definitely wasn’t because I had to get gum surgery to remove some gum in my mouth and i also had a lot of teeth pulled out. I’ve had all my braces on since December last year. The dentist started putting the brackets on my teeth in sets of 6 January 2020, so it wouldn’t overwhelm me and I could get use to it slowly. My jaw aches all day everyday along with headaches & sometimes reaches migraine level, because my bite is so bad. Had X-rays done by a specialist and my TMJ joints looked fine, so the pain is purely from my bite being so bad and probably has been bad for years.. started recently with 1 rubber band on my right side, from my top eye tooth, to my bottom tooth second from the back. I think it’s going to be a slooow process but I’m okay with that!

For mouth sores I suggest warm salt water. So get warm water in a cup, and dump a lot of salt in that warm water. Gargle that for about 10 second, and you won’t have any sores. Trust me this works. When you first get your braces on, the wire might be very crooked and ugly. Don’t worry, because that’s only temporary. Once your teeth start moving to there correct spots due to the braces, they will start look much more normal. I do have a little question for you though. I recently got my braces on, and it appears that my two front teeth are being pulled away from each other. I didn’t know if one tooth was just moving faster than the other, or if this is a real problem that I need to signal my orthodontist about.

I was like this my first few weeks in braces, eating anything without a problem. Now I've even started eating nuts with no problem. Your not really gonna have a problem with soars and scratches until you have to fix a space between teeth (like I am right now). When the teeth move, more wire will be in the back of your mouth causing irritation, soars, scratches and discomfort (literally my mouth is full of cuts its so uncomfortable) but you can use wax to cover the protruding wire or you can go see your ortho to clip the wire. This is most likely not going to happen to you in the next month but I hope this helps later! :)

As someone who has braces for past year: The day after my power chains get replaced is the day I hate my life. It's very painful to eat literally anything as teeth start moving. Two-Three days after that though - it feels absolutely fine. I always have soups and liquid foods for few days after getting power chains replaced.

I’m so anxious for getting braces, all those tools twisting and clamps and stuff , and the look and stuff it’s just makes me really anxious to the point where I have pain in my feet and hands, I’ve had two braces in the back of my mouth with a wire and spring it was like a spacer thing, I the first. I'm 52 and went to the Orthodontist last week. Still undecided to get bracers. A dentist said once: "Even though you have strong teeth, at your age bracers soften the bone structure. You might end up losing some teeth. Better crooked but strong teeth than no teeth at all." Oh goodness!!!

I love your videos, learned a lot before i got my braces so thank you! :) One thing no one really told me was the allergic reactions it can cause. I think allergy should get a lot more focus because it can really make life unconfortable if you don’t know that its related to your braces.. my reactions started when they put them on, i went to all kinds of tests and none showed a problem. Then now, after 8 month with braces i started having irritation on my skin as well and turned out i am allergic to nickel. But the rubber bands or titanium can also cause it. I really think you should make a video about that so if someone has the sypthoms they know where to look for the solution

depending on the person, your teeth may hurt for a long time after the tightening or a shorter time. My mom would only be sore for 30 mins but im sore for 2 weeks.

I got my braces yesterday!! Nothing to worry about at all! They are literally so painless and I almost fell asleep. Although after like 4 hours they started hurting just a bit, then when I woke up the next day it was so hard chewing with my sore mouth.😅 I only got the top though and I still need 2 teeth extracted, and the bottom. Don’t worry it’s all worth it! ;)

I've been in braces for 4 years+ because I didn't listen to my orthodontist and I ate whatever foods I wanted, I kept breaking brackets which slowed down the process. I'm currently wearing braces as well and will be for probably another 2 years they said. Please listen to your orthodontist 😭😭

I have braces and as he said it’ll not hurt but when you get home at night it’ll hurt you but after a few days maybe a week all the soreness will go also if your wire is sticking out use wax but after the wax u are provided by your orthodontist finishes u have to make sure that u don’t buy fake wax fake wax will fall apart and will not sick I bought a twenty pack in different flavours but it was fake it wouldn’t stay on and the wire kept poking me and it was uncomfortable so make sure u follow all the things your orthodontist says Bai baii and remember follow all your guide lines kk

Wax Question: I am getting braces in 3 weeks. I’m curious about the wax. 1. How long should it stay on? 2. Do you remove it yourself? Or will your orthodontist remove/change it at a visit? 3. 1. I replace it after every meal, usually when I brush my teeth. 2. you remove it yourself. It's not that sticky. Sometimes I forget I have it on and I brush and it falls out. 3. It doesn't dissolve. I don't think it's harmful. As long as you're not actively and willfully eating it in large quantities, should be okay.

I got my braces on today and it's quite sore but I found drinking cold water helps a lot. my experience was good! it didn't hurt getting the braces on but when they were adding the glue and washing it off, it tasted HORRIBLE. I got a metal band across the roof of my mouth which was a little more uncomfortable but it still didn't hurt. When they added the wire I could feel a lot of pressure on my teeth and they were uncomfortable and then it was a little rough when adding the coloured band (I got purple). I also had to get little white blobs on my teeth so I could close my mouth without touching the brackets. when I first sat up they made me wash my mouth out with water because it tasted disgusting, the glue does not taste good!!. When I got back to my car I took a paracetamol which helped a little later when the pain came. for the brushing, it was a little hard because my mouth was sore but I used a water flosser and that helped clean anything I couldn't get. I also used dental flosser things to get under the wire! hope this helps for anyone getting braces soon!

Make sure you take pics before and after ur brace journey. It can really be surprising! Also do not worry about getting braces on you will feel no pain when they are being applied ( just like nail polish ) however you may feel discomfort after a couple hours.

I usually recommend a toothbrush with OR technology. Almost all of oral B brushes use this technology

you don’t need an electric toothbrush but you can use one but they might give you a toothbrush specially shaped for braces but you don’t have to use. they also will give you a brush that is like the shape of a paint brush but a bit stiffer that you have to use. by the way i have braces 😁

i finally overcame my thumb-sucking habit i've had ever since i was a toddler (gave me an overjet, stopped at 15 and now im 16) and my mom finally agreed to get me braces :D but not now or anytime sooner though BUT she finally agrees at last, i've always wanted it ever since i was younger. wish me luck :) Edit: i made a dentist appointment tomorrow and im very close to getting braces :D Edit 2: got em finally!!! Got blue and pink combo and its really pretty 😍😍
