I had my metal braces taken out after 9months and changed to clear aligners cause my orthodontist said that there's some adjustments that would be much faster and easier to be achieved by using aligners. Having experienced both metal braces and clear aligners treatment, I can say that clear aligners are definitely much more comfortable than metal braces! No food getting stuck in between brackets, and no cuts in the cheeks! The only con is during the first 1-2days when you change a new set of aligners, you've to force yourself to put it on cause it HURTS!

I just had my metal/traditional braces taken off yesterday after 2.5 years and I truly had an amazing experience. I maintained good oral hygiene by flossing after every meal (using the floss threader my orthodontist office provided me with, and soft picks I purchased off of Amazon. Because many of us are at work and/or school throughout the day I’d use my Soft Picks to floss and remove food from my wires and brackets during the day, and the floss threader at night (this is a little time consuming). Also, I still had my teeth cleaned by my regular dentist twice a year. So overall, the tools I used daily to maintain oral hygiene was (1) brushing my teeth, brackets, wires, and GUMS in the morning and night, (2) flossing after every meal, (3) rinsing my mouth with mouth wash twice a day, and (4) using a water pick to rinse food, bacteria and germs from my mouth, brackets, and wires. If you follow the key steps your orthodontist advises you, you’ll be set. I just got my clear retainers yesterday a few hours after my braces were removed and I love them. You can do this girls and boys; ladies and gents- I got traditional braces at 47 and am 1 week shy of turning 50 so you’re never too old. It’s the best investment I ever made. #PrettySmile

I think the invisalign experience might depend on how much movement your teeth need. I had severe over crowding and my teeth were very crooked. The first few weeks of invisalign were so painful that I constantly questioned my decision. Every time I put the aligners in it hurt like hell and it hurt even more taking them out. It was so painful I would sometimes skip meals rather then go through the pain of taking them out/putting them back in. Another thing to consider especially in the first few months is that while you can remove your aligners and eat whatever you want you still end up wanting soft foods cuz your teeth hurt. I lost 15 pounds over the first 3 months on Invisalign. However, 6 months in it was not nearly as painful and i could see signifigant movement. I kept them in 22 hours a day. I also brushed my teeth after eating before putting aligners back in (which was a crazy hassle).

I’m 32 and first started my journey with Invisalign. I had them for 6 months before transitioning to braces. Honestly, I love my braces so much more. The upkeep is WAY easier! The planning that went into eating and drinking gave me so much anxiety. I had work trips where I was out in public all day long and I either had to forego eating or excuse myself to brush and floss in a public restroom. It wasn’t for me at all. With my braces, I can function much better when I’m out in public or around others. I’m also someone who snacks throughout the day, and you cant really do that with a Invisalign. I wish I had gone with traditional braces but I chose Invisalign without doing enough research before hand and it has not been smooth sailing for me unfortunately :( it’s taking extra long because of errors my orthodontists assistants made. Needless to say something that should have taken 1.5 - 2 years to do, I am still doing going into year 3…. Regular braces are much better for more complicated and longer cases, Invisalign is better for smaller movements and 6 months of wear or so. Anything more is better with traditional. In my opinion. Invisalign is very inconvenient for long treatment times, you have to take them out whenever you have anything but water and brush every time you put them back in. It’s super annoying.

I had braces in my younger years and now with invisilign and I can see the benefits of both. I don't miss getting my cheeks cut up and the difficulty of cleaning my teeth like I experienced when I wore braces. For me braces and invisilign went for the same cost at the place I go to also. Also I do remember times when I had the braces on the orthodontist tightened them and my head would hurt for days sometimes. With invisilign I don't get that kind of pain at all. For me it came down to the cuts inside my mouth, and one time having a loose wire stick right up into my lip for days until I went back to have it readjusted. Time wise it made way more sense to use invisilign for me. No regrets on this decision. Plus I also remember having a big piece of food hanging from my braces which was embarrassing when I realized this.

I’ve had Invisalign for 9 months now with one month left. At first it was very painful. Taking them in and out was rough. The buttons on the teeth definitely cut my cheeks a bit. After a few weeks I become very accustomed to it and had no more difficulty. Chewing feels strange when you take them off as your bite pattern changes. You’re forced to really step up your dental hygiene because you don’t want all that food in your teeth while you have the trays in. I never would go through metal braces so I’m glad Invisalign was an option for me. Great video.

I had braces as a teenager, but after some years, you could not really see that I had those braces. As someone being in my early 20s I like straight teeth. And I only had space between my 2 front teeth. Together with my orthodontist I chose the invisalign. I was told that i was going to need them for about 6 months. Once I got them it was 28 aligners, which would be great! But after those 28 aligners, the result wasn’t good. So my orthodontist told me it would be best if i got a new set. So I did. After those additional 10 aligners, nothing changed, it stil lookee the same as become those 10 aligners….I wore them correct amount of time and used those cheweys). So once again I got a new set of aligners (once again 10)…. I’m really not enthousiastic about the invisalign anymore. I’m already 1 year and 6 six months on the way. If I knew, what I know now about the invisalign, I would have chosen the normal braces…

I'm 40 and have been absolutely self-conscious about my awful teeth since my teenage years, my parents never cared to get anything done in that department, and then I couldn't afford it, on top of absolutely shitting my pants at the mere mention of a dentist (resulting in 20+ years of avoidance, yes, gross, I know and I'm far from proud of it). I've had enough and now that I can afford it, I decided that I'm taking the step and made a dentist appointment for January to start the process first with actually seeing a dentist and getting the basic stuff done/sorted out, and to get the wheels moving to get braces so I can maybe actually give a real, genuine smile and none of that tight-lipped smiling thing I've been doing for way too many years, looking back at pictures from the happiest times in my life and seeing this non-smile is breaking my heart, honestly. Watching videos about the different options really helps to ease my mind. I'm in France so I guess maybe the cost aspect of it may be different, but I'm stuck between a rock and a hard place, because I'm afraid of the pain of the regular braces cutting up the inside of my mouth, but I don't mind the appearance of them (it's not like I show my teeth as they are now anyway so it makes no difference to me) but the difference in cost between regular braces and invisalign is probably going to rule the latter out. I guess I will just have to see about that, but I wanted to say, those videos are so helpful.

It's scary, but be clear about what you haven't been able to do (i.e., see a dentist as a kid or young adult). They'll ask if you need headphones,sunglasses with side blinders, a blanket, or a mild sedative to make it through your longer appointments. I have used all of them with bio feedback (having a heart rare monitor) to make it through mine. You can do it, and I'm proud of you.

I didn’t do it. Fast forward, last year I went to a different Orthodontist, and got invisiline. No teeth were pulled, no discomfort, and only had to wear them for 14 months!! I had 3 years of braces ages 13-16. In all honesty, I had very little cheek irritation. I was given wax but don't ever remember using it. As far as pain goes, braces were NOT painful for me at all. What WAS painful was the spacers for molars to make room for the bands to fit around. I almost went through the roof the first time I went to brush my teeth after the spacers were put in place. I HATED them. Once I got the actual braces, no pain, no discomfort.

I had my teeth aligned in my 20's and I'm so happy I went with braces! I wanted Invisalign because braces felt embarrassing, but my orthodontist helped me settle for clear bracket braces and I'm so happy she did. There's no way I'd be able to keep up with the aligners as needed for 2 years, I'd want to give up half way. Braces are painful and annoying at times, but you just resign yourself to them and no other decision making is involved. With Invisalign, you have to actively choose/remember to put them in even when your teeth hurt a lot or life gets very busy (travel, eating a quick bite between meetings etc). Also, being able to sip a cup of tea/coffee for an hour is such a luxury! With Invisalign, you'd need to shotgun that thing. Now that my treatment is over, I have clear tray retainers and a permanent lingual retainer on my bottom teeth. I wore the clear trays pretty consistently for the first 2 years or so, but have given up on them now. Meanwhile, the permanent retainer is still in and I forget it's even there most of the time, it's great! (PS if you get ceramic braces with clear elastics - don't eat anything with turmeric unless you're about to go get your wire changed! Learned that the hard way, those elastics discolor so easily! Also maybe cut down on red wine/coffee/tea to keep your elastics looking their best)
@PeaceIsJesusChrist2 жыл бұрын
Please keep a close eye on your teeth! Because you’re not wearing your retainer, even with your permanent one, they can slowly start to shift, and you may not notice until it’s too late. That’s what happened to sooo many of us. 😭

This was a great video. As a child I had a habit of tongue thrusting (sucking my tongue - I have a very subtle lisp too 😂) and so in my early teens I got braces & rubber bands to close my bite. Unfortunately retainers weren't helpful in keeping my bite closed because I didn't break the habit of tongue thrusting and my orthodontist at the time didn't really educate me on that. I've learned that an open bite is a little bit more complicated than other dental problems because braces can correct, and retainers can keep my teeth straight and gaps closed, but my jaw/teeth can still shift open if I still suck my tongue. Over time my bite opened up again but I did not want to have braces again as an adult. I was happy to learn that the Invisalign technology advance to having the buttons/attachments. Prior to this development I would not have been a candidate for Invisalign. The attachments help deliver the right pressure to help close my bite by pulling the teeth up & down. But the most important part of that experience was my new orthodontist also giving me the information I needed to learn how to work on my tongue thrusting habit. I literally did not know where I was supposed to "normally" rest my tongue in my closed mouth if not between my bite 😂. I was 30 when I trained myself to rest my tongue at the roof of my mouth instead of pushing it against the back of my front teeth (which eventually would lead to me holding it between the top and bottom row of my front teeth). In my opinion, if you are disciplined enough to comply (easier for adults than adolescents), and aren't cost restricted, clear aligners are a great experience. Less pain, less ortho appointments (I got a set of several trays at a time to change weekly or bi-weekly), not as noticeable, and easier hygiene/cleaning. I am not 2 years removed from my treatment. Still wearing retainers at night and couldn't be happier with the results. If you're teeth problems are the result of an oral habit, like thumb or tongue sucking, it's just as important to address that as it is to get or the orthodontic treatment.

Wish I saw this video before going Invisalign. I had metal braces growing up and had a fantastic experience. He is correct that while the pain exists for a few days it goes away each time you have a visit. After you wear them for 1-2 years you honestly don’t notice them on you anymore. However, as an adult I decided to go with Invisalign and found them to be harder to deal with because you cannot snack or drink coffee/tea without removing the tray and cleaning your teeth before putting them back on. Not to mention the pain is harder to deal with because you are constantly moving teeth every 1-2 weeks. Lastly, what they don’t mention is with Invisalign they typically have “bite ramps” which are small plastic ramps on the back of your two front teeth and it gives you a lisp for 2-4 weeks. I eventually talked to my ortho and decided to switch to traditional and have no regrets.

I have to like plan my eating schedule around wearing them plus I feel the urge to brush right after I eat, feels gross to just pop them in right after. I’m also a medical MJ patient so before I smoke I take them out and that always fucks me up too lol. So deff pros and cons to both in my opinion/experience. You should be waiting 30 minutes after eating to brush your teeth! Your saliva becomes more acidic to breakdown food when you eat but that also means it can be more corrosive to your tooth enamel if you brush too soon. I called the dentist (over memorial weekend) and the next appointment she could give me was 2 weeks away. In my mind I was thinking she would want to urgently get it reattached or I won't be having strong results but she was very casual about it. The only reason I got invisalign is because the Orthodontist said it was about a $200 price difference from braces. It hurt in the beginning. Taking and placing the trays on had me feeling like I was going to break the tray or snap out a tooth. Today officially marks my second week. I'm so glad I've stumbled onto this video as I've learned a lot.

I had the normal braces in my 20s and since it was to repair issues with jaw alignment after a fused jaw when I was younger, the access to the back teeth is/was very reduced. The bracket also wasn't fully to the gum line leading to decay happening in the TINY area between the gum line and the metal cap/bracket thing. Which made a nice DEEP line across each of my no. 7 teeth, and due to reasons my braces were kept in place far longer than they should have which didn't help. If I was going through that again, I'd do everything to get the invisalign instead... Don't always just nod and agree with the dentist.

I have a hybrid, with Invisalign on top and metal braces on bottom. Personally, I would say braces are a lot easier to keep with, and, once again personally, moved faster than Invisalign. Washing my Invisalign every night, and having to keep taking it off and on, can be pretty annoying. Pain tolerance I can’t quite touch on, as I’ve never had brace tightening, but I can say that new Invisalign’s every week don’t really hurt. Also, there are spiky parts on both braces and Invisalign, though they only annoying me in the beginning, so that doesn’t really matter to me. Lastly.. getting food stuck in braces can be annoying, but a quick water rinse should do the trick. It’s personally the only downside. That’s my view on both, I hope this helps! :) P.S keep your Invisalign and/or braces clean!

I love your videos. They answer all my questions so I don’t bother my orthodontist. 😊 Thank you for making them. I got metal braces to fix an over bite. I knew I wouldn’t comply with wearing Invisalign. I’m obsessed with my braces. 🤩

I am glad i got to see your video. I initially was deciding on going with braces, but now after watching your video i think i have more answers to go with Invisalign:) Believe it or not, it really also comes down to DUE DILIGENCE! The trade-off for being able to eat more freely, brush/clean better, aesthetics outweighs the nuisance of ceramic protruding brace heads, possible gum irritation...etc. I think now I'm closer to the former. And after watching SDC videos.......i will stay away from that crap! Thank You!!!

I’ve had my metal braces for 2.5 months so far & I’m surprised at how much movement I’ve experienced already! My orthodontist offers Invisalign & traditional braces at the same price bc they base the cost on the treatment duration, not the method. Is that common? Also, I have an over jet & so I opted for braces since I was told they would not be able to correct it with Invisalign. Have you ever corrected a poor, misaligned bite with clear aligners vs braces?
@brandonschwartz73583 жыл бұрын
I wear Invisalign and have elastics. They do the same as braces but are just invisible

I also have overbite. They told me both braces and invisalign are options. I opted invisalign, hope it works.

I have had Invisalign for the last 2.5 years. I went through about 90 trays total. I just got the retainers last week! Yay! For me, invisalign was going to take the least amount of time, as it suites your teeth weekly. My orthodontist is really flexible, as they offer braces and invisalign at the same price to suite the patient. I tened to lose, aswell as skip trays since I am clumsy and don't have the best memory. For a while, in the middle of my treatment, I would simply take them out for breakfast and put them back when I brushed my teeth before bed. I definitely got away with too many of those. It made me feel better, as I did not have a chance to lose them when I went out. I honestly enjoyed it, and it suited me. I could not compare them, but that is just what worked for me.

hi i’m kinda curious, so you skipped a few of your trays and didn’t get your full 20-22 hours and your treatment still went well ? i’m on my 12th aligner out of 24 and i’ve been kinda lazy lately. i’m getting 20-22 most days but some i may get a tad under since i was partying with people. and i had to skip my 10 set a week early because i lost it, and my 11th really early because it broke. just curious if i was the only one this happened to and if it will be fine in the long run?

Do you have to wear retainers for life?
@bright77852 жыл бұрын
@@AlinaKay47 from what I've heard, for a little while you wear them all day then every night for the rest of your life. That is if you want your teeth to stay straight
@blobfish6782 жыл бұрын
Yes, my treatment still worked. Sorry if this reply is late. It should be alright. That happened to me plenty of times. As long as you get through the pain of putting in the next aligned when you are not ready, it will be alright. Make sure when you go to an orthodontist appointment that your teeth feel fully comfortable in that set

I’m a 58 yr old Englishman who had upper and lower braces fitted on 08/11/23 for the first time ever; my teeth have always been fairly straight but I have a deep bite that has got worse over the last few years. My orthodontist said that braces are generally better for fixing bites (Invisalign is better for crooked teeth). I watched lots of KZbin videos where so many people said braces are painful but I have not had any sensitivity let alone pain at any stage. I was able to bite down for the first few days with no pain (albeit, my posterior bite blocks made chewing awkward initially). My cheeks got a bit cut up first couple of weeks but that has resolved now too. I and all my friends actually like the look of metal braces more than ceramic because you can still see ceramic anyway (especially if you have a metal rather than white wire and coloured ligatures) but they’re more prone to breakage. I wouldn’t be able to wear Invisalign because the plastic trays are actually quite “chewy” and when I’ve had night guards made out of similar material, I destroy them within a couple of nights by biting / clenching holes into them!

Yes ! Please make a video on which cases would be better for invisalign or braces ! I have high canines on top row, slight crowding on bottom row and a crossbite. I didn't think I was a candidate for invisalign but my dentist said otherwise! I'm hoping this little information I've given can confirm that I am a candidate for invisalign ! Thanks in advance !

I had braces in middle school only needed them for 18 months. I remember having my wire coated in “gold” because of a nickel allergy I have. Any time I got my color changed I would do the school colors or correlate them to the time of the year. I totally embraced having braces and people were jealous of my “golden” wire.

I got Invisalign because I'm 58 and have TMJD and the "TMJ" specialist said that braces would help. I'm still skeptical. I'm on tray 41/60. I have seen a change in my teeth alignment but not a change in what he said was wrong with my bite. I'm also still battling TMJD. Also, I have a gap from an extraction that he's not closing so I can get an implant. Well, I haven't gotten an implant in 22 years so I'm guessing he made a mistake. To say I'm frustrated is an understatement.

The only reason why i chose braces was for the fun band colors. Then they told me they used self ligating brackets 🙁
@Stormy_Cloud3 жыл бұрын
My braces had self-ligating brackets but i still requested the color elastics because it makes the bracket feel smoother. They probably did this to cut down time and cost.

Is there a specific reason why the Invisalign goes all the way down to the gums? I've encountered a lot of people who experienced gum recession from their Invisalign and common advice cutting/filing the tray in case it pokes your gum. Wouldn't it technically be possible to make Invisalign a tiny bit shorter right to it wouldn't touch

Exactly invisalign is horrible in many ways
@SunnyMoonwilluploadin3 жыл бұрын
The main reason that I decided to get braces is that because I’m really forgetful and even though i have a high pain tolerance, i also have REALLY sensitive teeth, so when it comes to new things on my teeth, I have lots of pain and my teeth takes longer to get used to whatever is on it. With Invisalign, I would just be tempted to take them out and forget about them. With braces, no! I HAVE to keep them on! So i can get my teeth straight! it was a tough choice though…
