I'm in EDM music too. I prefer timeline arrangement over clip pattern modes. Cubase is such a great and fast daw for electronic music! Yes, I use Ableton also, but Cubase wins in so many areas. Very nice video, thank you!

Educational and mysterious at the same time. I've been using Cubase for a time, but I like to learn other genres and ways of working. I wanted to “recreate” this and was surprised to discover that the tom sample in the Mediabay (and on the track) sounds different than when triggered by the GA's pad. The “original” is much more voluminous and detailed, from the pad it sounds more papery - very strange.

Dude! Brilliant! Very interesting to see your workflow. But why would you go from audio-sample to Groove Agent back to (bounced) audio? Groove Agent is brilliant in having any pad as its own output and you can run a side chain from that. Gives you some more flexibility whilst writing. But, maybe I'm missing a point here... Could be. Looking forward to the other videos!

Fair question! I had actually filmed a separate segment of this showing how to use Groove Agent's multi output capability as a totally different approach but ultimately had to cut down the edit to keep the video under 15 mins. It is admittedly a weird workflow to bounce back to audio, but I suppose my thinking is that Groove Agent's purpose for me is mainly just to create custom drum kits so I can 'perform' the drum ideas quickly rather than dragging and dropping samples onto the grid. Ultimately I'd rather be working with audio when it comes to drums because it's easier to shape, process and edit individual samples and sections when I need to.

@@Steven_Beddall I can see your point and it's legit! But man, Groove Agent is a powerhouse! Highly underrated, I think. Even the option to add (subtle) random pitch to, say, the hihat to create a more realistic sound is just brilliant!

Interesting, that you start from a bunch of different sounds with no actual music playing, rather than from a running pattern in one sound - e.g. in my case it's most often a bass - and then complement it with further sounds. Is this how most people work in Cubase? In Bitwig or Live one typically builds stuff by a recording / typing-in a running loop, and then expanding by adding stuff around it. I never really tried this approach! :o
