Great tips. I would say to anyone playing games for the first time, it may be worth mentioning you're new to the format when looking for a game and people will be more than happy to help talk you through the lines. Also, finding a deck you enjoy over the "best" deck in the format, you'll be more likely to play the deck which means your skill level will increase and you'll learn more about the format. Have Fun!

This is absolutely sick. Been needing a video like this for awhile and for you two to do it makes me cheer with joy. I'm an old school standard player, just got back into it the last two years and never heard of edh or commander until then. I love that I'm learning so much as a 43 year old Aussie, from young Americans about the game I grew up loving. How effing good is Magic the Gathering honestly? Lets go!!!

18:00 I was glad to hear this. I often find myself wanting to be experimental with the format and breath new life into some commanders most people would roll their eyes at, since playing with a majority of the commanders is the meta game can become boring. (To me at least...) So, I'll make decklists with these niche commander options, that show great potential should things go right, and when showcasing it at either a local event or even sharing the decklist publicly via social media so get player's thoughts about it, I'm always always always hit with the same corny saying: "I'm not sure this is CEDH viable." While not crippling to say, it does kinda spit in the face of the maker, since I believe CEDH is about playing WHATEVER you want at its peak. Obviously, as you pointed out, there are some booty commander options out there but I find the challenge to be more fun. And if I can win even 1 or 2 games with it, I'd see it as a success and not rely too heavily on what's played in the meta if I could make something unique.

I’ve recently started getting into cedh, and the biggest thing I’m seeing is the half step. Our format has such a stigma of what the games have to look like it turns so many people off! Once I convinced a few friends to not think about that, and just run some high powered games, I’ve almost got a 4 pod together! Thanks for the content, gonna send this and bring more to the dark side 😂

One thing that you do not see in gameplay is the table discussing the possibility of coming to a draw. The example that is provided in the video regarding a player having to counter a spell just to loose to the next player is a scenario that has come up recently in cEDH events, where the table agrees that a draw is better than attempting a win. If you're playing casual cEDH, this probably doesn't come up often, but in tournament play it's definitely something to consider.

The thing I love the most about these types of talks and mentalities is that cEDH is not "pubstomp the casual decks" and there is a line between high power casual and cEDH. Look at a super optimized casual deck.. The point is to win, likely in a specific fashion, with many ways to get there and somewhat protect it. cEDH is designed to win, as efficiently as possible, in whatever way possible, with as much protection as possible. Stax is ok, counters are fine, MLD is cool, combos and infinite is great. The other thing is proxy legality. In cEDH, you are trying to build a deck, not a wallet battle. You want to fight an idea, not an income.

On spite plays, generally super agree with you guys (conceding isn't a tactic, one shouldn't take game actions based on "unga bunga you blew up my stuff). However, if my death is on the stack you better believe I'm firing off every piece of interaction I can. I see it the same way as still blocking when a lethal attack is declared. I'm not out of the game until I'm actually dead and I want to make it as painful as possible for someone to finish me off

Brothers trust me. Rograhk and thrasios winter orb and static orb is the most slept on cedh brew ever. The leverage is that you are able to ensure rograhk is coming in t1 every game. Unlike the polymorph strat I use rograhk for things like guild artisan, relic of legends, Mox amber, cryptolith rites, I do play hullbreaker but I always hard cast it. Most of my deck is insane ramp potential drawn out of non typical ramp cards. My rograhk and thrasios are typically used as mana dorks or in the case of guild artisan as mana generators.

Podcast idea, have an episode talking about cards that you think can be really good if built around correctly but haven't caught on yet. Like pet cards or playstyles that you guys think can be really good. An example is Codie which seemed like kind of a joke card and then was a great turbo deck that could win tournaments.

Thieving skydiver is the most under rated creature I feel like. Eat someone’s mana crypt or sol ring or Mox amber or whatever. Opponent goes t1 mana crypt mountain najeela. You go t1 mana crypt island thieving skydiver taking control of najeela’s mana crypt. You now have 2 mana crypts for t2. I would also have a rograhk in play on top of the skydiver. And that najeela players win conditon probably got pushed back 2-3 turns.

I have a question on the Kingmaking scenario mentioned. What if, it's a tournament setting, you know that you're going to die, but you can hamper the board in a way so that it can increase the possibility of the game going into a draw instead of a loss for you? Is that ok in CEDH
@itzDrexzyyy

I do have a quiestion , why not do spite plays? I get don’t do stuff just because, like the “screw you that’s why” type stuff lol I get don’t do that mid game when you could be saving that land to do stuff to progress yourself in the game, that’s cool, I’m Specifically asking about the second bit you guys said there , like if me losing is on the stack already, then why not do everything I can with whatever lands or instants I have to do something before I’m out? Like in my head I’d see doing stuff like that as “if you’re taking me out then im bringing you down with me” type stuff and that makes sense to me, like they are knocking me out why do I have to just take it lol, Are we not doing it for a reason, or are we just not doing it to be nice and to let that person maintain their chance to win and not take it away from them ? If we are not doing it just to be nice then I don’t get it lol, is that like a competitive integrity professionalism type thing or something? I dunno seems odd to me, like I’m now gonna be out iv lost so why not play everything I can while I’m still in to make the game more mixxy between the other players or make it harder for the person who’s knocked me out to win. I just don’t get why we wouldn’t want to do that. I do get the other part about not wanting to just do it for the sake of it and waste resources while we’re still in the game and not out though.

And they preach meta as gospel to new players wich terrible. Video is very informative but id like to add etiquette and don't be afraid to think outside the box . Ps have seen balanced well built commander deck power level 9 or 10 win nine times out of ten at a cedh table .
